  1. The only way Vancouver would insert that much youth into the lineup all at once would be if they decide to tank for 30th place. It's a year too late for that kind of tank. Buffalo is winning the McEichel sweepstakes.
  2. This has been discussed a lot on HF Boards. It is the only explanation that makes sense as to why Negrin plays as much as he does. I find it hard to believe Green plays Negrin because of his ability.
  3. The goalie that came in and played the third period was signed to a PTO a couple days ago and released today. I guess the Amerks weren't impressed. Rochester is a mess right now.
  4. Archie had a chance for the hat trick last night on an empty net shot from between the Comets blue line and the red line. The puck wouldn't sit down for him and he was being pressured so he took the shot anyway and missed the net for an icing. The Comets were up by two with less than 20 seconds left so why not try it.
  5. Frankie has only played in a total of 31 games this year between Vancouver and Utica. With nine healthy defensemen in Vancouver right now the best thing for this 21 year old prospect is to be playing in Utica instead of sitting in the press box in Vancouver.
  6. On the PP first unit Baertschi replaced Friesen which was a big upgrade. Overall Jensen was pushed further down in the lineup. Green constantly changes the line combinations so it is almost impossible to point out a specific line combination that anyone is playing on. With the addition of Baertschi the Comets currently have on extra healthy forward and it looks like Green is going to rotate who he gives a rest. In the past five games the scratch has been in this order - Bancks - Jensen - Shinkaruk - Archibald - Bancks. The Comets are playing a 3 in 3 this weekend so I would expect a similar rotation to be used to keep legs fresh.
  7. Can somebody who actually understands the CBA please comment. If I understood correctly only the 4 players that were paper transactioned to the AHL on March 2 can be moved up and down as non emergency callups. Everyone else currently on the Comets can only be called up as an emergency replacement. If true Sven or anyone else cannot be called up just to have extra bodies.
  8. He has been centering the 2nd PP unit and has look good.
  9. Great interview with Baertschi that was played between the first and second periods tonight. Sven explained that it was getting close to 3:00 when he finally got a call from Brad Treliving letting him know that he was traded to Vancouver. Sven was in the car when he got the call and had to pull over and couldn't stop smiling for about 10 minutes. Also said he is very excited to play in Utica for Travis Green. Just listening to the interview you could hear the excitement in his voice.
  10. I believe Shinkaruk and Gaunce will be back in Utica for the exact reasons you mentioned. Plus another year in Utica will help their development.
  11. I feel awful for Jacob Markstrom . I've watched him play all year in Utica and know what he is capable of. I can only imagine that he was so pumped up for this game that when the first shot went in it affected his concentration and it snowballed from there. Markstrom just needs to relax and trust his own ability and he will be fine. He had a great season in Utica but that doesn't mean that he didn't have a few stinkers along the way. He was pulled from a few games and bounced back with great efforts immediately after. The most recent was New Years day when he was pulled after giving up 5 goals on 17 shots and Green went right back with him the next day when he made 43 saves as the Comets beat the Flames 2 - 1.

  13. Gaunce was centering for Jensen and Shinkaruk on the 2nd unit PP and actually won a face off which is a rarity for the Comets PP. At even strength Gaunce is on the wing with Zelweski centering and Bancks the opposite wing.
  14. Zelweski has been centering that line and had a great weekend. 5 points in 3 games. Zelewski looks like he found a new gear with his skating. As for Gaunce, I really like this kid. 20 years old but he plays like someone in his 4th or 5th year of pro hockey. Just a smart hockey player. He still needs to add a little more offense to his game before he is ready to move up to the NHL but I think he will get there.
  15. Not yet. The Comets usually put the game highlights up on their YouTube channel but it is not up there yet.
  16. It was a great goal. Zelewski, Bancks and Gaunce causing havoc on the forecheck and Gaunce roofs it after walking out from behind the goal line. Gaunce doesn't usually show that much emotion. It was nice to see.
  17. Nice Gaunce celebration.
  18. Nashville already has their own version of Markstrom playing in Milwaukee. His name is Magnus Hellberg another 6'6" Swede, a year younger than Jacob and is the #1 goalie in the AHL. Markstrom is currently the #2 goalie in the AHL. The two went face to face last Friday in Utica and Hellberg got the best of Markstrom in a 2 - 1 Milwaukee victory. The two face each other again tonight in Milwaukee.
  19. No idea other that the Nucks see him as a wing in the NHL.
  20. Gaunce hasn't played center at all this year.
  21. The Aud really gets rocking the last 2 or 3 minutes of the game. Great atmosphere for the players all of which love playing here.
  22. Didn't play for the Comets last night so he was probably already on his way back.
