  1. They are way behind the 8 ball across the G20 on this. The partisan knives are out in force of course. That report still exists showing that Canadians are barely $200-$300 a month away from insolvency. This is actually showing close to true across the G20 in which $500 or less would put tens of millions or more in numerous nations in to bankruptcy and it's coming.
  2. Statements suggest a move towards a full 2.5% by the end of Q3 or some such thing. Would be interesting to see what happens after. Whatever the case; we know full well that they need to go up. It's been artificially low since about 2009.
  3. It went to Arizona and I think then to Minni after. Don't quote me on that though. Definitely went to Arizona first. I mean that would be nice, provided we don't trade Boeser his QO and our first to move up.
  4. Well there it is. The Bank of Canada is raising its target for the overnight rate by 0.5 per cent to 1 per cent. Canada's central bank says it will also stop buying government bonds and begin quantitative tightening (QT), beginning April 25. More to come.
  5. Big, mobile RHD I like Warren. A lot
  6. Lamoureux and Warren for me ARE the prizes in this if Miroshnichenko isn't available. We always, year by year do the first round to death. But if you look really hard, prior to Hedman. Most of the leagues most influential D that were drafted came from the 2nd round or later from 2005 through 2015 Josi, Keith, Subban, Weber, Klingberg, Giordano, Vlasic While of course you have guys drafted in the top 15-20 on the blue line that are your Hedmans, Karlsons, Makars, Hughes etc. Some of the biggest names in the game on the blueline since the early 2000s were drafted outside of the 1st round and that's why I love the idea of going heavy on this.
  7. I mean, trading up isn't the worst idea either. Boeser and our pick at #13 would be enticing for sure. But that's as likely to happen as not, because the teams in line to draft Nemec or Jiricek NEED both of them. This is the kind of draft in which some of the best players might be found in the 2nd through 5th rounds. I like Lamoureux and Warren a LOT for our team. Big mobile RHD with size and skating ability and that's something this team needs more than an identity and loud fans at Rogers
  8. The crazy thing about this; I can blame Trudeau for helping exacerbate things. For the same reasons I can blame the government before him for setting up the climate that allowe him to do this. It's been 14 years of printing money in Canada. For the US; it isn't much different. but Biden has literally only been in power for 15 months and everything is lumped at his feet. I genuinely feel sorry for the guy because NONE of this is genuinely his problem. Almost all of it is due to what happened before he stepped in. Due to being unable to push through legislation to help fix things or help Americans. Due to 14 years of printing money before he took office. The guy was damned no matter what he did because at no point in time was the other side going to allow him to do anything. he's certainly not exactly absolved of guilt but he's far from the reason the US is in the mess it is. I have my clock set for 9 am Eastern time on the 20th. It will be an interesting statement regarding our inflation levels.
  9. And there goes Iago. Gibert Gottfried passed at age 67 after a long illness. if you want a real mind job, look in to his normal speaking voice. It's crazy how much of his entire persona was an act in front of the camera or on stage. https://www.indiewire.com/2022/04/gilbert-gottfried-dead-1234716305/ Gilbert Gottfried, the beloved comedian known for his outsize onstage talents as a stand-up comic and as an iconic voice actor on television and film, has died. The actor was 67 and died after battling a long illness. The news was first shared via Twitter by fellow comedian Jason Alexander, who wrote, “Gilbert Gottfried made me laugh at times when laughter did not come easily. What a gift. I did not know him well but I loved what he shared with me. My best wishes and sympathy to his family.”
  10. I would put more money on Miroschnichenko reaching his floor than I would someone like Pickering, Gauthier or Lambert reaching their ceiling. The Canucks don't have a superstar as it was and we're not reaching one at pick 13. But what we also don't have is depth and this adds that. Numerous drafts over the past few years people were screaming to trade later picks up; or earlier picks down. Well, why not try this one instead?
  11. My wish list: 1st round: #13 Cutter Gauthier https://thehockeywriters.com/cutter-gauthier-2022-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/ 2nd round: (Via trade picks 5, 6 and 7 to Arizona or Montreal) Maverick Lamoureux https://thehockeywriters.com/maveric-lamoureux-2022-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/ 3rd round: Noah Warren: https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/574586/noah-warren 4th round: Liam Arnsby https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/529236/liam-arnsby
  12. OK first off thank you all for coming to my AA meeting. If you're really here and really day drinking at 8:31 am I am not only impressed but kind of ashamed of you. Wait until 9 like a normal person jeez. So, the whole idea of this is predicated on the FALLERS of the draft. Every year "it's the deepest draft ever" until it isn't. This year though is very VERY unique for a number of reasons. One of the highest rated players might not even be selected due to health issues. Many of the best skating European players will be shied away from due to ongoing conflicts in Ukraine which is where this comes in. Trade: Vancouver trades pick #13 in the 2022 NHL draft to Arizona for Picks 30, 35, 39 and 67. Drafting: #30: LW Ivan Miroshnichenko. He is going through cancer treatment right now and will without question be the coup in this or the biggest possible risk ever. The ultimate boom or bust. A kid this talented might not make it this far with the Habs and Sabres not needing to rush things but I have a feeling he'll be there. https://thehockeywriters.com/ivan-miroshnichenko-2022-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/ #35: RD Maverick Lamoureux. 6 foot 7 RHD? Ya why not. They say he can skate but his biggest knocks are gap control and edge work. https://thehockeywriters.com/maveric-lamoureux-2022-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/ #39: RHC Nathan Gaucer. A big mean centre on one of the youngest teams in his league who excels at net front play. This is the exact kind of player Miller was projected to be but larger. His skating is one of his knocks but one of the easiest to correct https://thehockeywriters.com/nathan-gaucher-2022-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/ #67: RHD Christian Kyrou/Noah Warren. If you've followed Kyrou you know why I like him. He missed the 2021 draft by 2 days but is defensively responsible and looks to project in to the modern type of D Gms rave about. If you've followed Warren you know he's a pure athlete. He is 6 foot 5 inches, 215 pounds. His only serious knock is how he looks spooked on the ice due to how young he is. He's the EXACT type of player we want and need moving forward and if he's available I'd consider moving up to get him somehow. Again, this is all just spit balling fun. Some of these kids will turn out to be better in the later rounds than the earlier rounds and some of these fallers are worth taking a risk on. Who would you take if you feel I missed someone?
  13. What's the over under on if this is terrorism or someone who is just mentally unstable? I kid I kid. Honestly; it is so hard not to be desensitized to this kind of violence in America though and for the love of all the gods; stay away from comments sections regarding this story if you want to maintain your sanity
  14. There it is. 8.5% increase on the CPI and a 1.2% inflation increase in march alone for the US. They are suggesting March is the "high water mark" and things will cool down. But, prices aren't reducing. Oil is dropping, prices at the pumps aren't. Food is still increasing. One sniff at a refinery will see a 20 cent jump overnight. Housing costs are seeing near 20%-30% month to month increases lately and it's the slow season. I don't know who they're trying to fool but I aint buying it. Things will only get worse https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/us-inflation-1.6416732
  15. Two major pieces of paper will be released tomorrow. Any guesses on what they will say??
  16. Impossible. We can't do that he's the guy we shoulda gotten over Horvat Oh yes, I recall that draft thread and how people collectively melted down like nothing else. Trading Schneider zomg Drafting Horvat over Nicushkin...ZOMG NO
  17. Tomorrow is the release of the Consumer index for the month in the US. it is also the release of the analytical chapter of the WEO from the IMF. Should be a fun day in the markets
  18. I remember his draft photos thinking that's a mighty big head for such a tiny body and he's more than grown in to it so far
  19. I'm a photographer/videographer. Weddings are my thing. The distortion of the image is due to the wide angle most likely on a phone camera. Just kills me. The statement about his pants is one of growth. He has been photographed in similar pants as those and I am wondering if they're the same ones and if so how much has he already grown since his draft? The kid looks enormous compared to his draft day! Exciting time for him.
  20. Who is our top minute playing RHD? That's what matters. We're not replacing that with a rookie from university who is going back to play another year
  21. Suggesting a college rookie would replace our only viable top pairing RHD is a shade CDC'Esque isn't it? We've discussed this kid at length in another thread and he fits all of the boxes. But he has to make the decision to sign and we can't exactly rush that
  22. What a trip. But hey, Canadians are losing freedoms because they can't set up bouncy castles and cook shacks while occupying the capital.
  23. The issue is, nobody has travelled anywhere that isn't all inclusive; nobody has learned anything of their life except what they did after high school; and nobody has experienced the world outside of their perfect echo chambers. Hard to understand how good we have it if you've never struggled or seen struggle
  24. Well first off, the distortion of this is KILLING me.... Secondly, The man signed a contract, can he not afford pants that fit him or has he grown that much? He looks like a man child!!!
