  1. Hey i don't argue we need to get rid of the dead weight cap. But who is saying that the picks/prospects don't or won't work out? Why are we suggesting Miller will be worth $8.5+ million and producing like an all star like Kane/Ovi but somehow the return for him won't work out? Why can't both be possible?
  2. He's EXACTLY who I'd target the second we shipped him out and I'd use some of the return to make it happen even going so far as to trade Boeser ++ or Horvat + for him. As I said in the other thread, he reminds me 100% of what Miller was just before he started busting out in Tampa
  3. I wonder what you'd have to add to send this guy to Winnipeg for Pierre Luc Dubois...
  4. Anaheim is doing things right for their future after seeing the season slip away. Drysdale, Zegras, Milano, Comtois and all that promise in their system plus the returns they're getting now AND this years 1st round pick promising to be top 10 once they drop out of the playoff picture. This is how you bow out gracefully and make a serious move to the future.
  5. I would have 100% paid a 3rd for this guy. he IS the deterrent we have been looking for to back up Petey and Hughes from being abused on the ice.
  6. Would you pay or have paid any of them not named Ovi or Kane $9+ million at age 30 for their first truly career breakout season?
  7. I worry because I can see this being what we have seen so frequently. An anchor in 2 years. Age 32 we will be bemoaning his potential $9+ million contract because we won't be able to shed it. This at a time when we'll have to find a Myers replacement. Be stuck with OEL's contract. Need to renew Hughes, Pettersson, Horvat in that timeline need to possibly pay market value in free agency to fill other holes. If Miller was to offer himself at a team friendly $7.5 million I'd be over the moon, but that's literally never happened outside of Stamkos (who gets massive tax breaks playing in Florida anyways so his contract is closer to a $9.2 million here) in the modern era. We're damned if we do and damned if we don't but I have serious reservations about paying Miller what the market dictates he will be worth.
  8. Defenseman who peaked in 2018/2019 and crashed back down to earth after a 74 point campaign MAF who is arguably the best modern goaltender the league has ever seen who played behind the most stacked Pens team since Lemieux and then the god send Vegas Knights Giroux peaked at 30, had another awesome season but again you can see his trajectory winding down. Possibly the most comparable to Miller on the list Ovi....come on now. He's a breed apart like Jagr, that's not even fair and might end up being the all time goal scoring record holder. HOF player from day 1 Stastny is interesting but after a strong start to his career has only been a 50 point average middle 6. He was never gonna see a $9 million pay day Kane is again a HOF player from day 1 so not comparable. Stastny and Giroux are the most comparable to Miller on that list but Giroux is winding down already and you can see it in his point totals and advanced stats. Stastny was a hot starter in the league but you saw him quickly become an effective middle 6 player but nothing more.
  9. You'll also have to accept my apology, I edited my comment for content because I don't want to be Off Topic hippy, I want to be conversation hockey loving hippy here. I don't wanna rub people the wrong way by just having a different opinion. That being said, you just spelled it out. Rare is it that players peak like this but they all do. We gamble immediately on Miller being a player who will continue to peak over the next 3-5 years instead of this being it now. Seguin/Benn peaked early, but they peaked at 26 (so far) and that made their contracts worth the risk seeing them psting 80+ point seasons consecutively.
  10. That's 100% fine then. Miller IS our end all be all and we SHOULD be asking the world for him period. I am very ok holding on to him until next TDL because he is vastly more important to this teams success than a poor return. This doesn't mean I am ok signing him to a $9 million contract but it also means I respect the management team for making a tough decision to not sell for the sake of selling
  11. Can you name one player like Pavelski that isn't Pavelski over the last decade?
  12. Now you're being obtuse and acting foolish. Miller is INCREDIBLY comparable to Benn and Seguin based on not only their positions but the games they play and their lead up seasons and length of contracts. You are being intentionally silly about this and that's fine but it doesn't change anything at all. because if all you can come up with is THIS response to me posting the direct numbers it shows even you know you don't have a credible argument to stand on against it.
  13. McDonough was/is a stud defenseman who plays on one of the most stacked teams the league has seen since the 1990s/2000s Red Wings. $6.75 million is not $9+ million and when you're anchoring the top 4 with Hedman in front of you, Stamkos, Point, Kucherov etc you are not THE piece; you are A piece. Again, we have seen the stats without Miller in the line up. We have also see Tampa crush their division without McDonough and win cups where he's lost or missed time during the season. McDonough is A piece of the Tampa Puzzle, our team without Miller is drafting top 5. This is not a fair comparison at all.
  14. Ya? How about when they signed their contracts? What happened after they signed them? Want me to fill you in? Jamie Benn: 2016/2017 at age 26 was 22nd in league scoring. After he signed his contract at 27 he was again 22nd in league scoring in 2017/2018. Signed his contract after an 89 point season. Afterwards he has posted 69, 79, 53, 39* 35* and as of this year, 34 current points. For $9 million he is on pace for less than 50 points this season. You can see clearly the fall off in point totals as he has aged and he was 3 years younger than Miller and had multiple 70+ point seasons prior to signing. Would you be accepting of a player making $9 million for less than 50 points? Tyler Seguin: 2018/2019 at age 26 he was 28th in league scoring. After he signed his contract at 27 he was 69th in league scoring. Signed his contract after a 78 point season. Afterwards he has posted 2*, and now a 33 point campaign after missing most of or all of the 2020/2021 season. On pace for less than 50 points for $9.85 million but signed his current contract after multiple consecutive 70+ point seasons. You can again clearly see the fall off in point totals as he was 3 years younger than Miller when he signed his contract and a cup winner with Boston. JT Miller, has only net 2 seasons over 70 points with this season being one of them. Most likely 3 but a covid shortened season didn't help. He has played his best over the last 2.5 seasons after posting a career average 52 points (give or take) per season. But will be 30 when his new contract kicks in. Knowing the historical standard for forwards over 30 to fall off in point totals what is a 50-60 point player worth? How about a 40-50 point player? The issue is we could very easily be looking at a Jason Blake or Jonathan Cheechoo bump here in which for a few seasons a player is lights out, has a career defining season and gets paid then....well, you know. Miller is having an amazing year. Is the player you want on your team but at 30+ with a $9+ million contract (and don't kid yourself he's absolutely not taking a team friendly discount; nobody does, he becomes as much a liability as holding a Poolman, Halak, Dickinson etc on your roster eating all that extra cap. Miller at $7 million is great. $8 million front loaded is workable but $9+ million as his current play and comparable have dictated he will be worth is an almost guaranteed anchor by season 4 and nobody would touch that without us greasing serious palms for doing it. I'd be as inclined to trade Miller for the prospects in the places we need them and making a play for PLD in Winnipeg because he has all those intangible qualities and same mannerisms in his play as Miller did before we picked him up.
  15. I repeat Jamie Benn Tyler Seguin. Look at both of them over the last 3 seasons at $9 million and $9.85 million respectively, but both signed their contracts 2-3 years earlier than Miller.
  16. So on page 297 I am seeing Miller at 50-60 points for $9 ish million is good? So Loui Player Name for 30-35 points per season at $6 million is bad. But POTENTIALLY 50-60 points per season for Miller at $9+ miller is acceptable? Because of what? Intangibles? Meh, whatever. He stays or goes but I really want everyone advocating the keep him no matter what camp to remember their arguments
  17. James Webb finally aligned and tuned First full images expected by July. something to look forward to
  18. No ... Bummed but it's ok. Having tried it numerous times before I'm ok not spending $500-$2000 on a single bottle when Sazerac or Buffalo Trace are not far off
  19. Me. Why? Name me one ppg player that did his team a solid NOT named Stamkos that was ppg before signing a new contract. While I wait, I'll reiterate that Miller will not sign here for less than $9 million no matter what you want to believe
  20. So you wouldn't sign a 30+ player to a large long term contract?
