[Signing] Flyers re-sign Rasmus Ristolainen
Warhippy replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I mean it's a good AAV for a guy who was an average 40 point player. Kinda fell off a cliff the last 2 years though. Still not terrible at all for a top 4 RHD. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Warhippy replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I am 100% shying away from the Rangers with anything involving Chytil or Kravstov as a main piece coming back. I am liking the Kings and Avs for the return we want/need -

I'd say...yes. A nice shiny young C/W a young mid RD with upside, a pick. You know. More than frigging Tofolli got. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Just keep in mind. Anyone we trade Miller for right now HAS to be able to make some sort of an impact or at least be able to keep the Canucks respectably in the race/hunt over the next 4 weeks post TDL. We can't be this close to the playoffs only to trade Miller and mail it in. It would take a management group with serious stones to trade their best(ish) player in a race this tight and not try to ensure the return pieces kept them in the hunt. -

Oil is tanking you say? Why, we must increase prices at the pump by 10 cents to make up for this! (every oil company/fuel outlet ever) -
The Elite Defencemen of this Generation Thread
Warhippy replied to HKSR's topic in General Hockey Discussion
in the 2017 draft thread I had a guy; believe it was Forsberg the Great and one other shouting me down about Makar being the end all be all defenseman of his draft and possibly the best player of his draft period. I watched him play in brooks, I watched and covered his tournament in penticton and saw him play internationally. He is/was the most electrifying, fastest and smartest player on the ice at any point in time at any position he played. He/They believed he was inflated playing in the AJHL and that because they played in it they knew better and Makar would amount to meh meh meh. Gods I wish he was still here so I could tag him here. Makar is without question one of if not the best current defenceman in the league. Even though he's playing on a team with stud forwards, I'd argue he's the best player on that team. If they can get Byram healthy and playing beside Makar I'd suggest he will be a multiple 90+ point a season defenceman. Even without him look at him being an above ppg player. There hasn't been a defncceman to do that since the 90s? Makar is right now set to eclipse the 90 point plateau and put him in the conversation with Coffey, Orr, MacInnis, Leetch Housley Borque and Coffey Fox is ok, he's had a couple good seasons but I do wonder if he's a flash in the pan few season stud on a good team or not. Gallant and Panarin is certainly helping him though Hedman is possibly the best all around defenseman right now of the bunch but he played on a stud team from draft onwards. Seider will be the person to pace Makar. Detroit is building around him. Watch their next 3 drafts and you'll see him as their centrepiece for rebuild. Hughes will be a point machine maybe. but he's smaller than the aforementioned players. Does not play with the roster they do (barring the wings right now) and will sadly be shelled out of Norris conversations because of it. it's a good time to watch D in the NHL for sure. -

Looking at all of the every day essential items that need nickel in it to be produced. Kind of thinking that people will be seeing some ugly sticker shock between transport costs and material goods costs increasing the value of things in the very near future -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

I also want to question the paucity in return for Miller people keep suggesting. Eichel, with a $10 million contract, returned Krebs (17th OA) Tuch (18th OA) a top 1 protected 1st a 2nd and a 3rd. Yes Eichel IS a franchise centre and he is essentially a PPG player. But he returned that WITH his contract WITH his injury status. Miller, over the last 3 years has been comparable to within .22 PPG is far better defensively by the numbers and a much more proficient F/O artist. His cap is $5.25 million and is far more versatile than Eichel as he can play both wings AND centre. To suggest Miller won't command a return that is comparable to any combination of a rising star RW in Tuch, Krebs a more than decent C prospect a 1st/2nd/3rd with his stats, contract and versatility is kind of crazy. When we speak of Byram/Newhook/1st for Miller. What exactly is wrong with that? I'd personally put far less value on Byram than I would Barron simply based on position, health and size I have a strong feeling Miller will be a Canuck until next March at least but we need to stop devaluing our players here guys. Miller would/should command the same level of return as Linden did and look what that return did for this franchise. -

Literally? Crosby. Maybe Mitchell. How many don't? Byram at this point in time is valueless based on his actual injury history and should be more of an addition and not a centrepiece. id as soon take a 2nd as I would Byram in a trade regardless of his draft pedigree and "potential" But that would be the Canuck luck manifesting itself eh? Get Byram back as the key point in a trade. He looks good, he looks healthy oh FFS Lucic/Kassian with the big hit...now he is licking frost off the window and giggling to himself because his reflection is smiling at him -

He's a 20 year old kid who is one bad sneeze away from wearing a helmet the rest of his life and drinking his soup through a straw -

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Warhippy replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
No bears....ew no. I still can not find anything in their line up that would be worthwhile except the two spoken names of Lysell (?) and Debrusk/Carlo. I just don't see it happening. The rags keep suggesting Kravstov like somehow he has ANY value at all, when in reality he is essentially as valuable as Trymakin during this conflict with his status and refusal to play. They also refuse to accept the idea of trading the 2-3 assets that would be essential to make the deal and honestly, Chytil, Kravstov and a 1st doesn't move the needle. The Avs would be 10% who i'd wanna speak to, but Barron/Newhook are non starters by all accounts. They'd be more accepting losing Byram but how do we accept a broken player who might be one more hit from drinking his soup through a straw? We'll have to look outside the box here. LAK? CBJ? NYI? PHI? Something there, almost has to be -

Have we thought outside of the box here? Like a non playoff team in a sign and trade scenario? NYI? BUF? CBJ? There's some strong possibilities that Miller might enjoy the non hockey market leadership role. A nice long term contract, good pay day and he can slowly slow down and transition from 1st to 3rd liner over the next 7-8 years on a team that will be on the upswing and competitive within a season or two. Just a thought
