  1. And again The National Energy Program (NEP) was an energy policyof the Government of Canada from 1980 to 1985. It was created under the Liberal government of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau by Minister of Energy Marc Lalonde in 1980, and administered by the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources.
  2. Our coastline is our resource, we take all the risk, you get all the good jobs and bulk of the money. Since it's OUR resource, we want a bigger cut. 40% should do it, you and the feds can split the remaining 60% in OUR country for putting OUR resources at risk. See how that sounds now And therein lies the fundamental point of the argument Jimmy is making. It's YOUR resources, yet it's Canada's coastline. WE are taking the risks, yet YOU are getting the benefits. WE just want more oversight, a shade more money and a ton of extra research done which only benefits everyone. YOU just want it done.
  3. I will ALWAYS go back to this because by putting taxdollars in to a pipeline and propping up a company that is essentially a small part of what the NEP would have done, except in this case the taxpayers will be lucky to see a total return while with the NEP Well....

  5. Atlanta Thrashers/Winnipeg Jets.  Drafted top ten 8 of 12 years in Atlanta (1 year without a 1st round pick) and 4 of 7 years in Winnipeg in the top 10

12 of 19 years with top 10 picks.  Two 1st overall.  Three 2nd overall.  And a 3rd overall pick or two as well.

Vancouver fans would never ever allow that to happen.  Loving the Jets atmosphere right now

Jimmy it's easier when you've a vezina caliber goalie, a Norris caliber defenseman and a perrenial selke caliber center in your line up no doubt.

Your argument rings hollow. Call us fans in Vancouver less passionate, I don't care. I'd rather be lots of things than have to live in Winnipeg.

I live in Winnipeg and it's not that bad :P

If I could afford to move to B.C. then I would, but I wouldn't move from Winnipeg to Alberta or Ontario.

The Jets have an identity, while we are looking for ours. Once we have that, we'll start to win more games and become competitive again.

  6. The hypocrite statement is in regards to his complaining about the leadership of the Liberal and Conservative parties yet knowing he had the opportunity to do something about it but opted not to. For me, that is the same as not voting but complaining about the politicians running the place. The sad thing is, as a paid public servant you sacrifice a lot. While he's still a damned fine MP he COULD have been a damned fine leader, he lost to Angry Tom because angry Tom was in fact Laytons left hand man and Cullen was still a relative unknown. During the last leadership run up he had every single opportunity to win it but opted to not run. So now he gets to be a damned fine MP in a failing party without any credible leadership complaining about a lack of credible leadership with the two other major parties Hypocriticial? Ok maybe not. ironic...almost. There's a middle ground there for sure
  7. I would have. But won't now He's a hypocrite. he turned down the nomination for leadership citing a desire to spend more time with his family. Then ran again, and after he won embarked on a campaign of why isn't anyone doing something, why won't someone do better. He HAD the chance but turned it down and is now whining about it. Now his party is saddled with an un-electable leader who doesn't even have the stones to run in a riding until such time as he knows without question it is a safe riding for him. Edit** That being said, he is in fact bang on with his statements. Really wish he'd have ran for leadership when he had the chance
  8. Just wait until he rolls on his promise of electoral reform 8 months before the election. once he shows people he's looking in to it that will jump again. doesn't mean he'll do anything about it but "optics"
  9. Do nothing approach. Decades hmmmm Ok. With Harper in power for almost 14 years federally. The PCs in power forever in Alberta and a Conservative party in everything but name in BC for 16 years. Im hearing you say straight up that Canadian Conservatives are ultimately useless failures. The timelines the track records the math. All adds up. Youre right. They have been useless
  10. Good thing nobody really cares what you want or expect. A 19 year old kid is ready when the team decides he's ready, not when some pud on a hockey forum dictates he is or should be based on his wants or desires
  11. Let's be completely honest Strome His party had almost 15 years and a lot of that with a majority and got nothing done. It's hypocritical at best for him to claim he'll "get stuff done" Which is why I find it laughable that the electorate would potentially elect him. Between his party's track record, their debt and lack of success country wide over that length of time and his absolute lack of life experience outside of politics he'd be an absolute joke to lead the country. especially when you recall his parties cute attack ads against True Dough. He's guilty of all of what they claimed x 5
  12. I'd actually like to hear how the Libs would spin this as a bad thing as they ended the moratorium on offshore exploration back in 2007. All it would take is a government with a majority that could actually speak to first nations bands as partners and not as obstacles. Then to simply ignore the whining avocado fam in Vancouver and it's a done deal The wonderful thing is, that while this is true; we HAVE the resources they need, refined or not. They still need them. We also have a population that is currently one of the fastest growing in the country and as such have a serious need for the refined products ourselves. With Alberta and Saskatchewan (Canada's D student) now jumping on board the threaten BC train; pushing a project like this while promising to ensure that prices of essentials like gas/diesel would stay low in BC it would get pushed through without much issue. Even better is that with Weaver's so called intellect pulling the strings of the NDP right now to ensure they tow the line, he could essentially write the protocol for any exploration legislation thus ensuring a world class system IS in fact in place. Alberta would essentially become non important to BC overnight and BC would basically have re-written how resource extraction should happen across this country as a fair partner not just a lease owner
  13. The thing is, the province could dictate everything at that point. Set a starting point of $2 billion insurance per company plus the feds 1.5 billion. Set royalty rates at fair prices. Ensure full pension/benefits available. 50/50 hiring of first nations/british columbians. 2 new refineries to ensure gas prices in BC are always at a static price, say $1.05 per liter. Ya it's entirely feasible, because they'd literally own and control the initial framework of any resource extraction of that method.
  14. It would almost entirely be first nations driven. Imagine it now BC announces offshore oil expansion for the province with the full oversight and sponsorship of the BC first nations communities. 2 new refineries to be built Lines radiating from offshore rigs to said refineries to ensure minimal boat traffic and saving spawning beds and marine life A true prosperity fund set up with fair royalties Prince Ruperts deep water port ready to deliver to Asian Markets without any of the downtime of Albertas lines. Then start a true LNG development BC prospers and Alberta is left whinging about "separating"
  15. For the distance from offshore to refinery, it would be in the kilometers. BC could dictate EVERYTHING and companies would line up for it. triple thickness, double walled dual blowout prevention systems. Oh ya man. Hypocrite or not, BC would make Alberta essentially useless and as BC still owns the ports on the coast could throttle anything they want coming off the boats. It's all about knowing what cards you actually hold
  16. The most amazing part of that, is that if BC wanted too and had the gall to do it. We have more than enough sweet crude just off shore waiting for platforms. Easily refined, easily transported and no need for a pipeline. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/offshore-oil-worth-9-6b-to-b-c-says-fraser-institute-1.1221051 https://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/study-cites-riches-of-bc-offshore-oil/article22399168/ I mean imagine that, Horgan saying screw you and approving drilling off of the Island. Almost $10 billion in the provincial coffers without issue. Enough to more than pay for Horgan and Weaver's dream budgets without even considering LNG Alberta, landlocked. No ports. The US its only possible customer with little desire to open up already full pipelines for out of country heavy oil completely out of options while BC stably opens up offshore oil and interior LNG explorations
  17. pffft totally unreasonable i mean really. pffft....
  18. *cough* we call that the Lougheed/Mulroney model
  19. Once interest rates rise or mortgage renewals come due and those that over extended themselves cannot pay for their 2nd/3rd homes. There will be homes available on the market no doubt
  20. Well... If you'd like I will also for fun add in willy woodenshoes
  21. Actually, and this is amusing A Poli Science prof that was interviewed said BC could go tit for tat by simply declaring it's ports and coastline a vital resource, which it in fact is. By doing so they could effectively remove the feds power and also be enabled to table legislation mirroring that of Alberta's and therefore shutting off the ports to Alberta and Sask. Imagine that.
  22. Bingo. Although that argument has been gone over twice now. In that said poster claims it's "his" but that the oil etc is also "his" and not ours. I want to call it stupid, but that would be almost complimentary for what I think of that argument
  23. Just to clarify. I think what some people are missing is that now the Alberta government has legal jurisdiction on WHERE their oil goes. Pretty sure the corporations are just now realizing that and might be shaking their collective heads as this also means to the US for below market prices could become an issue
  24. IIRC Edmonton just broke a record for most consecutive days below 0 Over 160 days....that's approaching half a year below 0 Summerside doesn't seem so bad really, that snow is just insulation
  25. Keeping options open, that's the far end of the extreme but Halifax, Dartmouth or Charlottetown aren't out of the area of possibility Ironically my wife has never lived anywhere BUT the Okanagan Valley and her first thought was Lethbridge I've worked all across Canada from the area's of Sawmill Bay and Port Radium and as far east as Musselwhite and Northern Development in Ontario. She wouldn't listen to reason when I said Lethbridge would be on the lower end of places I'd want to relocate too. But happy wife...miserable me
