Twitter Ads info and privacy Following Dexter’s season, Rathbone joined the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms for a brief stint. He posted one assist in the four games with the Phantoms. He also collected 12 points, including four goals, in 14 appearances with the Cape Cod Whalers of the MHSL. Known for his swift skating style, Rathbone makes up for a lack of size with speed and defensive grit. He passes with precision and consistently pushes teammates in transition. Rathbone utilizes his mobility to elude fore-checkers and create offensive chances for himself and teammates. His patience for allowing plays to develop underscores his advanced hockey IQ. NHL Draft Projection Despite concerns with his size and recent concussion issues, Rathbone’s fluid skating style and intensity will attract an NHL general manager to take a chance on the smallish blueliner. He is projected to be taken in the fourth round, but could go earlier if an organization has a need for a slick-skating, puck-moving defenseman. Quotable “Undersized defender with good vision, high-end skating ability and grit. Very elusive and uses his shiftiness to move pucks out of his zone and to the attack, which he will hop in on. His low center of gravity give him the ability to cannonball opponents and knock them off the puck.” – Bill Placzek, www.draftsite.com Statistics Strengths Skating ability Quarterbacking the power play Transition game Under Construction (Improvements to Make) Size Decision-making NHL Potential NHL insiders project Rathbone will serve as organizational depth while he develops muscle mass. His elite footwork will enable Rathbone time to gain strength. With patience, scouts believe Rathbone will ease his way into becoming a top-six defenseman. Risk-Reward Analysis Risk – 3/5, Reward 4/5 Fantasy Hockey Potential Offense – 7.5/10, Defense – 7/10 Awards/Achievements Jack Rathbone was named to the USHS All-USA Hockey First team for 2016-17 and competed in the All-American Prospects Game in September 2016. He also was selected to be a candidate for Midseason American Family Insurance ALL-USA Player of the Year. In 2015, he helped lead the Whalers to a Midget Minor Tier 1 Massachusetts State Championship. Thanks for the info. Kinda bugs me people post a link and an opinion and nothing else. Our new canucks deserve better

2017 NHL Draft - Chicago, Illinois June 23-24 2017

+1 to you -
Oh no man. You're crazy if you slot him in within 2 years. I would think 3 is rushing him a shade. 4 is literally prime because with our current roster, as is without change; a bottom 5 team. Following this year, another bottom 5-7 team in 3 drafts 10-12. In the next 3 terrible years that will come we will stockpile quality skilled depth and decent talent up front while Petterson develops. The kid is a long ways off.

That's ok by me. We're not going to be playoff bound until 20/21 imo -
Next years draft will be interesting if they are in fact clearing house on the scouting dept here

Well...he has reported attitude issues and of course look at the numbers of people that have left for russia recently. of course he'll fall -
Stop calling it inferior competition. he was the best player in his league Best player in the Doyle cup (western canada) best player in the RBC cup (all of canada) best in the worlds for his league (that's world wide) Makar is going to be fine

Now with Thomas gone I am just hoping Benning does....nothing. Literally nothing until tomorrow. There's already assured to be a few fallers here so sit on your hands JB -
If we pick Yamamoto and we combine him with Petterson, we might have enough weight between them to make a Byfuglien!

Petterson And Yamamoto? We might have enough weight between them to make a hockey player -
I'd actually put money on benning being gone before Petterson plays a full season in this league

Why is that funny? Makar is 3-5 years out and will possibly be the best offensive D this draft produces. He's exactly what the Avs needed

[GDT] 2017 NHL Entry Draft

In the past 3 years, I've wanted at the start of the season 3 years ago in 2014 Honka, then we sucked and selected 6th (everyone wants Honka) 2 years ago in 2015 Zacha or Prorov then we were good and got the amazing Boeser last year Chychrun and we sucked and got Juolevi I'm on the board for all of these kids in the first round and I love defense. I usually stick by my gut instinct. This year was Liljegren to start and then Makar. I'll stand by either of them and won't have a choice because the toronto sports networks will be forcing Liljegren on us for the next decade or more.... -

At his draft, Karlsson wasn't as smart as Karlsson....if he was he'd have been 1st OA -
At 5? I'd say there's some questions

Not shocked, that blue line just gets better and better. Really envious of that defensive prospect pool. Valimaki and Andersson will look good in the future -

Doughty, Hamilton, Chycrun, Nurse...BYfuglien or anyone on the Jets' blueline hits him it's over. He won't be able to dance the smaller ice surface the same way. Kinda get the feeling that this pick is going to enrage people VERY quickly knowing his comparables are all in the division -

Emil Petterson taken in 2013, is listed on the Preds site as 164 pounds and 6 foot 2. On other sites at 176 pounds and 6 foot 1. This is why I am a shade worried about his ability to put on weight. I don't think we ever see him playing over 180 pounds in his early to mid 20's It's a long term project but.... -
