  1. Here's a thought. IF we somehow get that lottery win and the 1st overall, think Buffalo would give 2 or 3 2014 1st round picks or their 2015 pick for it??

It's a question of wealth. Could we trade the #1 overall this year for say Buffalo and another of their 1st round picks next year or a few this season?

Im not sure...if they don't get 1st they will get 2nd this year so they get Ekblad if we get Rein...More see them trading down if not 1st to get more picks

      Meh was just a thought

  2. 3-0 already? Yes we are so competing for that Connor pick next year at this rate. Remember all, good or bad this is still our team and it's about to get bad. Just wish that they could score a bloody goal. To many goalless snoozers

  3. Ya....that won't cause issues hahahahaha Read into it however you will. but does that comment, offhand or not sound like someone who is thrilled to still be here?
  4. If you read. Yes Matthias as of the end of next season IS a UFA. Diaz was needed here as one more injury we've NO defensive depth with Alberts still out. Markstrom WAS highly touted but most analysts are now questioning his transition to a small ice game for good reason. Lack and erikkson translated in a season, Markstrom has had almost 4. Horvat is playing well in the OHL. No guarantee it works in his first season in the NHL. I have never been good with the idea fo rushing prospects. Had Luongo been moved last season when was appropriate, according to all rumours the return would have been better than matthias and a Goalie prospect. Added we are eating roughly $800k for the next 4 years and still deal with cap recapture if/when he retires. The issue with hoping for decent return at the draft day is that there is the expectation Kesler will waive for more teams. Based on what? He could very well waive for less. That the value of return will be the same. Unlikely as the Olympic showcase is over and teams are not pushing for a cup anymore. They're getting ready for a new season. And then there is the UFA issue with a rising cap, every team int he league will be able to throw $5+ million or more in additional cap space at UFA's and most will hold on to their assets and just do this instead. Now the big one. Players talk. they see what this management group has done to its star players and it is hard to believe we can attract solid UFA's into a "winning" culture when we don't have one anymore and players could be shat on at any time. This is quickly looking like the 95/96 season that lead into some of our worst years in club history
  5. Mike Gillis reporting from the golf course. Managers who truly care about improving their business usually don't do it from the golf course. Insert joke about Mike Gillis and Handicap here
  6. Ya, that is THIS year. A slide into abject mediocrity takes a few seasons. Wait for it. I lived through the 80's I supported this team through the 90's. I can see the trend. Make no mistake about it, we will hold on to our picks this year draft well and next year if we're a bubble team or in the picture Gillis (if still around) will sell for rentals. Again, look at his history
  7. Actually the Flames had solid prospects back then. They traded them for rentals because they were a bubble team around trade deadline day. Sound familiar?
  8. ORLY???? Because this core is so much better than they were in 2010/2011? Because we are going to compete without Daniel not even a 20 goal scorer Sedin? Burrows is going to pot 30 goals before the season ends? In 2006 the Flames were saying that they weren't the Kings and 6 years later finally pulled the trigger. Look at ALL the historical data. We are nto good enough to compete, we will not make the playoffs this year. There has been no changes to our key group. And as such with the level of competition on the rise around the west, we will not compete next year as well. We are not the flames you're right. We are a shell of what was a championship caliber canucks team. And remember, think of the value that was available today via desperate teams. Think Kesler will magically waive for 10 different teams than the 4 or 5 reported? Unlikely. The return will be far less during the draft
  9. As well. if Gillis though that there was not enough value in a Kesler or Edler deal right now, post Olympics when their value was at an all time high Imagine how upset he's going to be come draft day if eh tries dealing either of them for a comparable price. Maybe he needs to be reminded about how holding off trading a marquee player worked out for him again (Matthias and Markstrom)
  10. Actually We traded Schneider and Luongo, a solid depth defenceman and an AHLer for A first round pick #9 overall, a 4th line center with possible 3rd line potential (UFA next season) a goalie prospect who is miles away from where the hype had him placed even last year. And a late 5th round pick. This is how Calgary did it from 2005 through 2011. Get ready for a few seasons of 9th through 13th place finishes in the west. not good enough for the playoffs, not nearly bad enough for the lottery
  11. Canucks officially done for the day. No deals to be made. For those of you satisfied. Talk to your friends who cheered for the Flames from 2006 through 2010. Still happy???

Gillis reporting from the golf course right now. A manager of any business looking to improve their business does NOT do it from the golf course if they care.

I'm just trying to stay positive. Can't change what happened today, so draft day is the next event to look forward to.

    4. goalie13

      goalie13

Maybe they were renting a conference room at the golf course? If the players are all golfing they could tell them they've been traded as they come off the 18th green. :)

  12. And trade day is officially over. By 1 p.m. this afternoon, no trades coming in we are officially emulating the Calgary model Officially off the Gillis bus after today. Trade Deadline day, largest bust and slowest in a decade.

Whatever Gillis might have thought was a lowball offer for Kesler or edler. It will be a lot lower come draft day or next year. Luongo and Schneider only net us a top 10 pick, 4th liner and washed up goalie prospect. Waste of time....seriously

  13. 56 minutes left. Can we all agree now that Gillis has missed his chance and messed the bed in terms of getting max value back on players like Kesler and edler? Deadline day is a dud for the Canucks.

how can we say he didn't get max value back knowing the offers made for either of them could be low-balls?

I just don't see it. I think Gillis is making it a LUongo situation all over again. I do believe that it will be a draft day deal and a drastically decreased value. The window is closed, Sedin and Santa possibly gone all season. I mean really, sell while there's value

  14. So, Luongo and St Louis/Callahan. Rather dull so far.

  15. I wouldn't. Think of it like the Lindros trade. Philli got the better player sure. but the Nords/Avs got many quality players and a couple of cups from the depth they garnered from it all Better served trading them seperately, depth wins championships.
  16. Can we jst start suspening people who start rumours yet refuse to name their source? So many people "know a guy who said a thing" and it's driving people insane. If you want attention fine we get it. but don't fan the flame of this already rabid fanbase. Name your sources or don't post it.

  17. You know as well as anyone that kind of rumour mongering is not tolerated Phill. Name your source or don't post nonsense. It's that crap that makes Eklund look good. The equivalent of telling your high school friends I have a hot girlfriend in another high school in another town you'll never meet....
  18. It could be in relation to some of the larger names yet to be moved. Moulson, Vanek and more. I am starting to fear somehow that Gillis will sit back and do nothing. Potentially move Richardson and call that a day. I have never been against Gillis but I am starting to question his abilities to properly manage this team
  19. How'd that work out for ya. Feel better now? Out of your system muffin? Good. Now, learn the definition and difference between attack, and debate.
  20. Queue the endless threads for the next year including the following Glad he's gone We should have kept him Schneider Schneider Schneider Lack Lack Lack Could we have gotten more Should we have gotten more And the endless Gillis is terrible threads. Mods...you've your work cut out for you for the next 2 weeks. best of Luck
  21. And now for 2 years of Luongo threads, what if he excels, could we have done better, he was a bad bad man etc. Just be happy he went where he wanted and thank you for everything Camptain Lou.
