  1. And why does Carolina want him? ROR, Larkin and a few others are available without the cap hit and term. Again, cuffed to this team and management. Just because a fan suggests it doesn't make it worth it for the other team
  2. Simple business. It shouldn't be hard to understand that management dug their grave with this contract. They signed an 8 year 8 million to a guy in a career year which is the kiss of death. While being a cap team with no assets and no success in a decade. Nobody is going to line up to do Vancouver favours and take him just because. When the trade happens it will be absolutely to the benefit of the team acquiring him. Whether that is retention or assets added in is up for debate But make no mistake this is a contract management is now married to and nothing is going to change that. Not opinion, strong feelings or strawman arguments. This league doesn't do Vancouver favours.
  3. Why what? Why is management cuffed to Miller or why is Horvat more valued by fans?
  4. Ya Horvat. Not even arguable. But management is cuffed to Miller.
  5. The fundamental issue now is cap space this year. Nobody has any. For teams that can pick up Miller this year vs next year There are plenty of teams with minimal roster spots and plenty of cap space that could take him without moving anything for 23/24 when his $8 million kicks in. This year is a bit more of an outlier as currently only 14 teams in the entire league have any available cap space. That being said, he is also as of today only worth $2.9 million if traded based on his current contract of $5.25 million pro-rated. Of the teams that have the cap space to fit him at 3 million only 5 would have the cap space to retain him in to next season without making moves; those being the Coyotes, Sabres, Ducks, Hawks and Wings. 2022/2023: NHL 2022 https://www.spotrac.com/nhl/cap/ Starting for 2023/2024 when his $8 million cap would kick in, the following teams would be able to fit him without any changes at all. 2023/2024: NHL 2023 https://www.spotrac.com/nhl/cap/2023/ Blackhawks, 12/23 roster spots $45 million in cap space Ducks, 14/24 roster spots $42 million in cap space Red Wings, 13/23 roster spots $41 million in cap space Coyotes, 15/23 roster spots $38 million in cap space Sabres, 15/23 roster spots #32 million in cap space When we look at teams able to make moves of $3 million or less that would fit him in, that list triples to 15 total teams that could fit Miller in next year. This is a damned strange year for teams regarding cap space because when you look at the numbers, as of RIGHT now only 14 total teams have any non LTIR cap space and of those teams, 7 of those teams have less than 2 million with an 8th having less than $3 million. Meaning more than half of the entire league has literally zero cap space to work with right now to make any level of moves including waiver pick ups. So this desire of, or belief that Miller is just easy to shuffle off without even considering that management might have no interest in trading him. Is kind of wishful thinking without concrete evidence that he is being shipped.
  6. The thing people are forgetting in their mad rush to dump Miller is that management most likely has zero interest in trading him They could have last year numerous times as the season was lost early no matter what the Boudreau bump showed. The likelihood of them trading him now is already slim let alone finding a dance partners that wants him for 8 years
  7. Have you by chance, seen my truck and f**k Trudeau flag?
  8. No idea. My preference would be drafting with any additional firsts we garner this year but that's not looking like it's going to happen with the way this management group is resembling the former management group. I will say again, It is not that I dislike Sale. I think he's probably one of the more skilled players in this draft. The rumours are he is taking the possibility of going to Barrie in the OHL very seriously which would be great as he is only playing about 10 minutes a game in the Czech leagues with 0 pp time. If he goes to the OHL and can put on 10-20 pounds of muscle it would be great for him. As he is not large enough right now to handle the AHL and would be absolutely destroyed. he gets pushed around very easily in the mens league he is currently in and even in the WJC we saw him getting bodied off the puck incredibly easily. If he takes the OHL route I'd be far more happier to see him drafted even knowing it means we wouldn't see him in the AHL due to the CHL rules until he was 20. But my heart and mind are set 100% on drafting and developing D. I probably have 3 draft threads since 2013 where my entire comments list is draft nothing but defense. Draft them all. Every single player draft all the D with our picks. Because defensive prospects and players are worth $$$$ in this league and a top 4 prospect D like Lundkvist gets a 1st while a top 4 RHD gets a 1st ++
  9. Yes Sale does look good. I'd still trade backwards without an additional first to draft a D. I'm literally that invested in building our Blueline
  10. I mean, at least we have Garland and OEL and all that sweet sweet cap space.

    Right?

I have to agree.  The OEL/Garland Trade is looking worse and worse in hind sight every game we see.  Losing those top 10 picks, also is problematic.  It is gambling/shortcutting that has consistently put this club behind the 8 ball for the last decade or so.  Coupled with a development system that only seems to really work if the player is talented enough to skip it, we're looking more Oiler-esque than not.

This roster is built wrong.  It is supplemented by not that much, and I don't know if there is any easy fix to quickly turn it around.   BUT, if we can accurately diagnose and do surgery on this roster, I still believe that we can turn it around with a semblance of the core.

There are some good pieces, and some good pieces implemented by this management group.  Mikeyev, Kuzmenko, Bear, etc aren't the problem, per se.  So at least those added pieces have value.  But we need to figure out Horvat, Miller, Myers, OEL, Schenn, Pearson, etc.  If you don't stick the landing on this before next season, we are in for a long term pain, with nothing in the pipeline that can be seen as impactful in terms of reinforcements from Below.

The point is @Phil_314 is that we would have had the 6 or 7  million cap space to acquire that RHD we need and a ELC to soften the impact. We would also have enough to re-sign Horvat and Kuzmenko.

The point is Benning never planned for the future.

@J.I.A.H.N totally valid, and as serviceable as Garland and OEL were last season, things clearly fell off the rails for both which makes this trade look even less palatable (esp. considering Horvat/ Kuz need new contracts).  If we had time machines I'd bet 99% of Canucks fans would hope to go back and stop Benning from making that trade call, so Loui/ Beagle/ Roussel's contracts could just fall off the books, but no point crying over what's already happened.

  11. But hey...I mean at least we have Garland and OEL and that single year's worth of sweet sweet cap space right?
  12. I stand by it. Teams ceded 1st through 5th should be forced to play a round robin for the honour of drafting 1st overall. The way teams will now completely tank and jog the roster to ensure they lose more games is going to be genuinely damning. CBJ, CHI, ANA, SJ and ARI will be playing with their roster and shedding vets/assets to garner the best possible odds to draft Bedard. To ensure this doesn't happen a round robin tourney should be fair and played to see who deserves it most. Toronto did it for Matthews. Edmonton and Buffalo did it for McDavid/Eichel. Pitts did everything in their power to win the Corsby draft before the CBA lockout shut it down. Teams around the league have done it regularly and it's damning and needs to be put to rest.
  13. As for the "conspiracy theory" This is the first time in any major professional sport I have heard anyone attached to or associated with a league in any format make statements like Bisonnette or Whitney did regarding a draft or potential lottery draft. No matter what happens now if Arizona wins it will be 100% tainted and with a talent like Bedard available every single pick should be completely 100% televised live to ensure transparency
  14. 5 worst teams play a round robin. winning team of the tourney gets to pick 1st overall. teams 6-10 play a round robin to figure out slots 6-10 makes teams avoid tanking entirely because you only get the rights to play to see who wins 1st OA and fans get the joy of seeing what team wants it the most
  15. Actually really enjoyed that one. It's got far more vanilla notes than the matsui and sip for sip isn't terrible at all https://www.bcliquorstores.com/product/10377
  16. I dislike shipping whiskey myself. But yes; absolutely worth trying to get your hands on some
  17. The Hibiki is great, You can slip in to a nice japanese whisky with the toki or nikka from the barrel. Both are not technically japanese whiskys but meet the threshold. Both can be had for under $70 https://www.lcbo.com/en/toki-465484 https://www.lcbo.com/en/toki-465484
  18. I would trade Hughes AND Pettersson for Bedard are you kidding?
  19. The lottery system Okanagan Spirits has is a joke. Constantly enter and miss out then get a call or email a day or two later about bottles being available.
  20. They've got the full Laird line up INCLUDING their own special cask from the LoF line up. As well as a Laird of fintry that is aged in mezcal barrels
  21. Lots of talk about him and I'd be thrilled to get him. With the need for big rhd in the league he's expected to go mid teens
  22. NJ slumping and winning him via the lottery would be the biggest slap in the face. That would be their 4th(?) win in less than 10 years? Same with the rangers who have moved up or won twice while Vancouver slides in perpetuity. Whatever the case, with such a key player on the slot these statements make the fact that this lottery being done in secrecy with just brass and one "independent" without any media oversight incredibly polarizing
