In that original thread from Nov I touched on the issues with the Canucks org moving from Manitoba to the Chicago Wolves and the problems there, the start of the Utica Comets and how they were effectively just ignored for their first 2-3 seasons. So the development aspect was touched on. But that metric is also skewed in the sense that there are IIRC 7 to 9 teams with 5-6 players who have played 200 + games with numerous players ready to meet the 200 game metric this and or next year with numerous promising prospects in the development wings ready to step in. Dallas is a great example of that with Hintz/Robertson. LA with Vilardi, Anderson, Kupari, Bjornfoot, Kaliyev and Byfield. New Jersey with Bastian, Blackwood, Mcleod, Boqvist, Sharangovich etc. Hurricanes with Roy, Lorentz, Kuukonen, Gauthier, bean, Geekie, Luostarenen etc. Theres 6 or 7 other teams I could list that had players that started development post 2014 that still have incredibly promising players being developed and 20-23 year old players just finishing their first 100+ games in the league where in by comparison, vancouver has none. After Podkolzin that list is entirely flat, in fact after Boeser our only promising player that isn't Hughes or Pettersson in development or post development is Hoglander (special mention to Podkolzin) It's been a long slog and it's hard to see any light at the end of the tunnel when Klimovich is our current will he won't he prospect with promise that isn't playing in Europe or named Lekkrimaki -
The current team is awful, so lets talk about some good moments
Warhippy replied to awalk's topic in Canucks Talk
It's genuinely sad we have to look so far to the past for any level of good will and memories in this team. But here's my take on some good moments in this org These boys right here who became a total vibe around the league and with the Canucks Sundin earning every gd penny of his contract scoring a heart breaking shootout goal against the Leafs to win the game IN Toronto The Ripper. Period. This guy was everything Canucks and such a warrior (RIP) Prust ensuring we don't see the nose procreate Who can forget the Eager Flasher from the 7-3 win against the Sharts in the 2011 playoffs? And finally. Gino Odjick vs the entire St Louis Blues team -
The current team is awful, but lets talk about something else awful!
Warhippy replied to MtnHockeyGuy's topic in Canucks Talk
That is inarguable. I spent a number of hours going over draft history going back to what was deemed the Canucks "break out year" for the twins and the effective end of the WCE in the discussion that lead me to research this. While the Canucks are not the only team with poor to awful drafting from 2006-2022. They are singular in the lack of developed and successfully drafted players and only one other team is close to them with 17 total players drafted and developed over that time span. It's genuinely damning to see how abysmal the actual development program of this organization has been as by the metrics shown of 6.3 players picked per draft since 2006 simple statistics show a less than 10% success rate. it's all in the link I posted to this back in Nov. So while not alone in poor drafting and development. They do stand out like high beams on a highway -
The current team is awful, but lets talk about something else awful!
Warhippy replied to MtnHockeyGuy's topic in Canucks Talk
100% in fact the two best teams at this game over the past 15 years or going back to 2006 are in fact Ottawa and Tampa Bay. People flame the Canucks for finding busts in Virtanen and Juolevi and missing "the player" chosen after but neglect to remember that teams that drafted top 10 for a decade prior to those picks had numerous busts or players we'd have considered busts in the top 4. where we managed only two picks in the top 5 and in fact in our entire history have only drafted top 5 or better 7 times -

I did the math on this in November -
The current team is awful, but lets talk about something else awful!

Instead of being smug about that statement. Why don't you refute it with facts. I've invested a fair amount of time trying to dissect the canucks absolutely woeful drafting the last 2 decades and nothing of what that poster said about Hughes and Pettersson being our only drafted impact players is wrong In the past 7 years the Canucks have drafted exactly TWO players who have been impactful. Those are in fact Hughes and Pettersson. Hoglander is approaching that territory but still has serious consistency issues. Hell I will go one farther, since 2006; the amount of players drafted by Vancouver who have crossed the 200+ game metric considered to be a successful draft pick is 12. 3 of them were drafted in 2014 with Demko approaching the 200 game mark by next year and Hoglander as well which would bring our total to 14 total players being "successful picks" since 2006 or 17 total years at less than 1 player per draft. I can even break it down further by reminding you that of those 12 current players 5 were picked in the top 10 with 4 more being picked in the first round meaning 4 total draft picks in 16 years being drafted outside of the first round are considered to be successful picks and that's IF Hoglander/Demko make the 200 game metric in vancouver. To make it even more damning, of those 12 players. No less than 5 of them in fact hit that 200 game metric on other teams. Those players are Grabner, Hodgson, Connauton, Forsling and McCann So when you claim someone made a low IQ statement, I strongly like STRONGLY suggest you know what you're talking about because the only low iq statement made is the one I am responding to in this matter Yours. But then, maybe you are new to hockey -

He is the epitome of middle of the road stay at home defenceman. I know people will say it's "too much" but these are the defencemen that win you championships because they allow for their partners and forwards to take risks knowing they can contain things. -

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
Warhippy replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
For me Bo is already persona non grata. My list is entirely expendable players this team needs to jettison for maximum value over the next 2-3 drafts. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
Warhippy replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Ok full stop. Nowhere did I say anything about Miller regarding ANYTHING other than him Kovaleving on every play that doesn't go his way. As a $5+ million player he was 100% a beast. As an $8+ million player that is wrong. It's funny how people will create a narrative that never existed in order to be outraged or offended about something that was never mentioned. For me, Miller is 100% expendable and in order needs to go behind the following players in order of return on value. Horvat Kuzmenko Schenn Garland Miller Boeser Myers Pearson Again, full stop I don't care how much you like the player. He has literally no place on a team that needs to rebuild from the literal ground up while keeping only 4-5 total roster players -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
Warhippy replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
An off year? Millers biggest knock since he came here has been his biggest issue again this year. He Kovalevs every play that doesn't go his way and it's kind of a crappy thing to be known for as a player -

Warhippy replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Well... yuck but probably not entirely all that bad when you consider how lacking this team is in any sort of prospects or youth of any quality and position which in itself is so absolutely damning it hurts VHN's Proposal: Brossoit, Brisson, Cormier, and a 2023 first round-pick for Horvat with $2,250,000 retained. (Horvat comes in at $3,250,000) -

By this metric literally everyone has to go. So...I mean gj -
I stand by it. In order of value the following trades should be/need to be made to return the assets in picks and prospects over the next 3 years that will make this team truly competitive. Horvat Kuzmenko Schenn Garland Then: Miller Boeser Myers Pearson The first three will return the highest possible return in multiple picks and prospects which should be spread between this year and 2025. Firsts for this and next year with the additional picks spread through to 2025. The other three should be traded targetting the 2024 and 2025 drafts to ensure we're drafting multiple players over the next three straight drafts. This ensures cap space and prospects as well as picks coming back to spread out the proverbial wealth over time instead of just one single shot in 2023. It also ensures Vancouver is drafting top 5 for the next 3 seasons which, when added to the picks and prospects garnered via trades will set the team up for a decade

The Canucks would be better off moving Elias Pettersson than Bo Horvat
Warhippy replied to Ruthervin's topic in Canucks Talk
The Canucks would be better off moving Elias Pettersson THEN Bo Horvat FTFY -
I am counting all of them. Which is why it's so sad. Going back to 2006, we can even make it more sad by pointing out that McCann, Forsling, Hodgson, Connaughton and Grabner all played their 200+ games by and large on other teams.
