  1. A GM’s job includes drafting. Gillis was atrociously bad at it.
  2. In fact, here is what the first line has cost to build: VAN Pettersson Miller Toffoli NHL Schaller Mazanec Madden 1st ‘17 (5OA17) 1st ‘20 or ‘21 2nd ‘20 3rd ‘19 Do you do this trade?
  3. Sign of the confidence of a man who knows how to draft. Gillis couldn’t draft to save his life. Or job.
  4. No. They currently have three 1sts. Maybe they trade one or two to other teams and keep their own high 1st pick.
  5. Gillis is a circumventor. It’s about as bad as being a diver.
  6. You’re right. I heard wrong and our friend peaches5 called it out. Gillis is not the front runner, but the first interviewed as he is not contractually bound. Obviously the trade idea is mine. Thanks.
  7. Here’s how I see it. The Canucks have a cushion in the standings for Demko, and an insurance policy in Domingue. To me I’m not too concerned with a decline in Demko’s stock. If anything, this shows how important Markstrom is to the Canucks. One or two goals don’t go in tonight and the Canucks win. So here’s how I see it. If Demko can bring this team to the finish line, great. If that cushion disappears, Domingue will be a serious consideration for many more games and perhaps beyond this season. If 24 year old Demko isn’t ready to handle the pressure of getting this team to the finish line for their first playoff experience in five years and in his first pro year as a backup with now only 33 games played in his young NHL career, is it really his fault... But the argument of who the Canucks should keep between Markstrom and Demko is becoming sillier by the day.
  8. Horrible at drafting is exactly why if I were Benning, I’d be all over those 1st rounders. They have three firsts. They can probably exchange two of them for more assured young assets.
  9. As per Elliot Friedman, apparently Mike Gillis is one of the first candidate to be interviewed for the GM job in New Jersey. So.... NJD Bärtschi Goldobin Juolevi VAN 1st ‘20 (ARI) (Currently 11OA20) New Jersey also holds the current 6OA20 and 20OA20.
  10. Which team shows up? The one that embarrassed Boston 9-3? The one that grinded out a 4-3 win against the Habs? Or the one that embarrassed itself with a 5-2 loss to the third worst team in the league? They’ll probably wake up 7 to 10 minute into the 1st period regardless.
  11. Canucks outshot Ottawa and lost. Let them get outshot and win.
  12. Another way to look at it is, Eriksson is finally playing better regardless of whether Roussel is considered or not.
  13. They gotta get up for these meaningless games. They are ALL. meaningful to the Canucks making the playoffs.
  14. All good bud. Benning said he’d try to recoup the picks in time for the draft. OTT with three 1sts NJD with three 1sts ANA with two 1sts MIN with two 1sts NYR with two 1sts Something to be done there. Boeser? Demko? Juolevi? Someone else? Benning also said teams called about Bärtschi but couldn’t make it happen. He also said he’d try to trade him somewhere at or before the draft. With something for a 2nd? I think Benning will get the picks back.
  15. Sure. But turning a 150lbs minor league and a salary dump into a top flight 1st liner... ...IS. pulling a rabbit out of his hat. And I love every minute of it.
  16. From what I saw last night (Oilers’ 3rd period), yeah that top line‘s speed will be extremely hard to handle. Ennis is no slouch either. I fear the days of really bad GMing in Edmonton is over. No way they chew Holland out of town... ...right?
  17. Anyone still arguing this trade has to give their head a shake. A 150lbs minor leaguer and a salary dump for a top flight first liner.
  18. Green had a pep talk with him. You see Hughes’ facial expression go from emotionally overwhelmed to hockey mode in an instant. Nothing short of beautiful.
