  1. Tank on purpose? Tank for McDavid? Try to win games with 18 year olds? Go cheer for the Oilers. They've already been tanking for years. They lose all the time and pick young guys. Vancouver would start WWIII if the Canucks did that.
  2. Woul you trust a man who trades two super goalies for mere change? I'm glad the trades were stopped. Gillis wasn't good at it.
  3. Trade does not equal young players and draft picks only. That is a Gillis view on a rebuild because the guy gave up. Maximizing value is what this is about. Maximized is the team already by having fired Gillis and Tortorella, as well and more importantly, by hiring Linden and Benning. The whole game has changed and the fan/ media repeated one-liner stigmas that stick beyond their worth in time, ought to be put to rest. If a trade for a 30 year old Russian superstar became available and the Canucks pulled the trigger and the dude shines, only then would Vancouver fans go ahead and believe in the absolutely unbelievable forever never: "oh my God! Bring in more Russians and old guys!". The anti-Russian sentiment was brought in by Burke and still lives on in this town, even though Bure, Mogilny and Larionov graced Canucks ice a short time ago. The "trade equals rebuild" mentality will eventually disappear. If anything, a company should always be reinventing itself in order to keep on top of its competitors.
  4. I have a suspicion that, ownership nixing a Kesler trade is not going against a Kesler trade, but against Gillis further damaging this team's worth.
  5. As another poster has said regarding Kesler: His value in trade drastically outweighs his value to the Canucks. That's why you trade him. Nothing of personal beliefs. You stated it yourself, fact is, he's a super puck hog. At least he doesn't dive anymore.
  6. Goals can be had with other players. I expect this last season to be an anomaly. Kesler is the least of my concerns. If Kesler realized how many more points he would have if he utilized his wings better... Kesler is not the solution, he's the problem. Unless he shuts the hell up and plays wing. But even Tortorella couldn't get this guy to align with the organization's desires. Kesler costs talent. From Umberger, Hodgson, to Tortorella himself. I don't buy "he's the best coach I've ever played for"; that's politics. By trading Kesler, the Canucks save Horvat and numerous kids who might get bullied into getting traded because Mr. Kesler feels threatened. Hey. If you're good enough, no need to worry right? As far as Kesler for Weber straight up, I also agree that it is lopsided, as well as virtually impossible as I'd be surprised If Nashville is on Kesler's list. Nonetheless, the pieces Kesler and potentially Edler would garner from other trades could be enough to land Weber. And with Weber in the fold, the Canucks are right back at it. The best part is that acquiring Weber could drastically change the makeup of the defense. Since he's such a workhorse, there would suddenly be a major logjam at defense both in talent and in salary. WEBER - HAMHUIS TANEV - BIEKSA STANTON - CORRADO Is better than: EDLER - HAMHUIS GARRISON - BIEKSA STANTON - TANEV That would leave Edler and Garrison as potential trade pieces for young offensive talent.
  7. If the rumor is true and a Kesler for Weber deal comes, then you shouldn't really have to worry about offense because the Canucks would finally have arguably the best defenseman in the game today. A Selke winning 3C playing 2C because he refuses to take one for the team, for a top notch 1D. There's no argument there. At all.
  8. Um... No. Whether this rumor is true or not is irrelevant. Getting rid of Kesler is the right thing to do. Get rid of the no-pass center. He's a detriment to the team and has been for years.
  9. I'll take Chara any day. As for the C, it is Captain Henrik.
  10. The dude messed up for sure, in time. However, the prospect of signing Messier to play with Mogilny and Bure, at the time was seen as a stroke of genius. However short lived. Then came the C event. Linden traded to NYI for Bertuzzi, McCabe and a 3rd (Ruutu). McCabe and 1st '00 (FLA from Bure trade) for 1st '99 (CHI - 4th overall) 1st '99 (CHI - 4th overall), two 3rd picks to TBL for 1st '99 (TBL) 1st '99 (TBL) to Atlanta for 2nd overall (ATL) Canucks pick 2nd '99 (Daniel), 3rd overall (Henrik) Bertuzzi, Allen, Auld to FLA for Luongo, Kraijcek, 6th selection Luongo to FLA for Matthias, Markstrom. The Messier event is still paying off dividend. In hindsight, Messier isn't so bad...
  11. He didn't necessarily condemn those types of actions on his way to a Cup as an assistant... I'm pretty sure that 29 teams would be scrambling for the phones if Lucic was to be made available, including Benning himself.
  12. Everyone loved the Messier move at the time. It was not until the damage was well done that the fans started feeling jipped.
  13. Until he scores his first goal and the crowd cheers.
  14. ... except that that reputation is reliant on Kesler's NTC, Edler's NTC, the Sedins' NTC, Hansen's NTC, Higgins' NTC, Burrrows' NTC...
  15. If you're angry at this, you need to work on yourself. Conversely, what you feel right now, "he's a Canuck now", is how you'd feel after a Lucic to Canucks trade. Puke a little in your mouth, then accept.
  16. If Weber decides he wants to be traded to Vancouver because Trotz is the coach, then I'm all for Trotz.
  17. Blaming Therrien for the Habs' eventual demise is asinine. The best goaltender in the world has gone down by being run over. Happens. What Therrien has done is beyond what most coaches could have done with the Habs.
  18. Yes. But the Canucks won't win the Cup yesterday. So patience.
  19. Captain Clutch "exposing them for what they are" resonates all too well now with the realignment. He was and is still right, except that the Canucks are now without Luongo. A rather high mountain to climb.
  20. ...until the first game of the pre-season right? Thought so.
  21. So how many times have you blamed the refs to support your arguments? DeNiro, I have loads of respect for you on this site. You know better. That team against Boston got decimated by injury. That team against San Jose, they were not playing well at all, an got decimated by penalties. By the L.A. Series, the Canucks had gone stale. While the Kings got two ex-Philly core superstars and one of the greatest coach out there, to go along a developed Doughty, Kopitar, Brown and Quick, the Canucks were in the midst of the greatest goaltender controversy yet, while the core got disinterested; stale. The Kings were the most complete Cup team in recent history. The Canucks on the other hand, gave it their all against Boston but could not pull through. They never recovered. AV fired, Torts hired, Gillis couldn't pull a Kesler or Edler trade, and instead traded an Olympian goaltender, further taking te heart out of the team. This team is stale and needs change badly. Blame the refs all you want, but after the two Marchand penalties based on "reputation", I beg to differ on such matters as the refs unfairly punishing the Canucks as the b*tch of the league. Let's not forget what reputation Lapierre, Torres, Burrows and Kesler have carried in their time.
