It's like mother AV let them do anything they wanted and then father Torts came in, saw the mess and started screaming. They didn't like their daddy, so brother Linden kicked him out.

That's eXACTly why Henrik shouldn't have been named Captain of the Vancouver Canucks. The Sedins have been sheltered all their careers and now they have been exposed by a coach who demands every bit of energy from his players. Which really, it's the way it should be. No favorites. A captain should lead both on and off the ice but mostly, on the ice. If Kesler were to have been Captain of the 2011 team, the Canucks would have won the Cup. Kesler beast mode would have beastmoded a whole bunch of other players on the team. Instead, the Canucks got bitch slapped into mediocrity. I don't think Toews would have been bitch slapped were he facing Marchand. As Captain, he would also have b-lined to a player's defense if that were to happen to the Hawks. Henrik and all other Canucks just ... watched. How about Chara getting bitchslapped. How about Doan. And how about Kesler. Now it's too late and Kesler wants out. The Canucks are a mess and it starts with their top and declining sisters. If the Sedins were actually elite, they would have matched with anyone right winger on their lineup and played a different game when called for it. Instead, they are tender offensive players, shut down when the going gets rough. As a player, such a Captain cannot be inspiring.

How about keeping Tortorella and denying reports? That would be THE lesson te Canucks could teach stupid media members like El Douche Farhan.

...and this... In hindsight, the list ought to have been like this: Gillis fired. Never EVER hire a players' agent as GM again. Gillis single handedly screwed this team for years to come.
-
No. The fans would want him fired after a year. He's too good.

I'm starting to be ashamed of saying I'm a Canucks fan now. This team is an absolute mess and I don't buy the easy going, cool demeanor of Linden. He just looks (and says) he has no clue what's happening. Watch his interviews. This hiring is nothing but a PR move. Firing Tortorella is the wrong thing to do. What he's done with Kassian; AV would have played him on the 4th line part-time, then having him sent down. If Tortorella can do what he did with Kassian, I would have loved to see what he could have done with other rookies. I just might have to change teams. Leafs and Rangers look like good choices now that the Canucks are is such a damn mess. Laughing joke of the league. Except no one is laughing because no one really cares. Edit: Now that Tortorella has been fired, I corrected my grammar for the Language police to pass by undisturbed.

I'm not sorry. I think some are confusing Torts' heart and passion, the only guy to show some this year in the entire organization, for psychotic behavior. I remember this whole sacrifice thing started with Sopel back in the day. All of a sudden, in perfect Vancouver mentality, haters united and chose a target. That unfortunate player then succumbed to pressures and was subsequently thrown out. Vancouver fans can't tell a good thing even if their lives depended on it. The demise of Luongo is a case in point. AV, Tortorella, and countless players who suddenly become targets of the State. Shameful.

This ageing core needs to be dismantled. But hey, fans are emotionally attached to these losers.

The media wins again. Lalji shouldn't cover the Canucks ever again.

The true weakness, is a broken heart from 2011. I believe Tortorella also addressed this. -

Except that Gillis couldn't deliver better players via hockey trades. One, because he could not make a pure hockey trade to save his life, two, because he gave out NTCs like candy, and three, because he believed the league should change to his vision, not the other way around. Tortorella said he needed reinforcements in his first year. AV also said it before he was fired a few months after. But blame Tortorella... -

To me it's a great thing. It shows where the Canucks need improvement on in an honest way. The Canucks couldn't score against Boston to win the Cup and have been in constant decline in production since. It's not so much that Tortorella exposed the team's weaknesses as much as he didn't try to hide them. -

I agree. Torts should stay. -exposure of the true weaknesses in the Canucks, -harnessing the media into a cooperating bunch, -Kassian's development, -patience with Booth, which turned dividends, -taking responsibility for things he had no business taking; the heritage classic and Luongo, a trade that was already in the works, -attempt to bring emotion to an already stale team, -praising player when they were worthy of praise, -criticizing players when they desered criticism, -feeding the media with good storylines while avoiding others, -commanding respect by a majority of the players, -defending his team by going after the other coach for starting a bunch of goons, The reasons to keep Torts far outweigh the reasons to fire him. This team was doomed to fail regardless of who was behind the bench. -

When the team isn't built for the new Pacific Division, yes; it was exposed for what it is. The team is closer to Calgary than Los Angeles and I don't mean by geographical location. -

The honest coach exposed the team for what it is; a weak team in perpetual decline who cannot close a game in the third period. Calls for reinforcement, none come at the trade deadline besides Matthias. Nothing against Matthias, but With Luongo gone, the hole created cannot be ignored. He singlehandedly whips the media into shape. He has gotten into Kassian's head and started to turn him into a future power forward. The only morale he's done is try to make the Sedins play a game they don't play. The Sedins and Burrows are getting up there in he and should be left to play the game they know. That said, all other players can follow the Tortorella system. That would only emphasize the Sedins' play if they go back to their old ways. -

I disagree. I think the Canucks could very well be a force next year. A couple of awesome trades and the retool is complete. Wish list: Spezza/ Statsny Kane S. Weber Torres With a 1D, the whole defensive system changes. No more needed are the same types of players. D. SEDIN - H. SEDIN - JENSEN KANE - STATSNY - KASSIAN BOOTH - MATTHIAS - HANSEN SESTITO - RICHARDSON - TORRES WEBER - HAMHUIS GARRISON - TANEV STANTON - CORRADO LACK MARKSTROM -

"Our current roster" isn't good enough. Not the coach's fault. -

So one reporter starts saying square peg in round hole and it becomes doctrine? How about thinking on your own? As for the Canucks, they are not built to play in the Pacific. Gillis threw his own team under the bus by stating everyone except the Sedins is available. Yet, he goes on and trades Luongo for spare change. Kesler, with rumored deal on the table from Pittsburgh, Detroit, Toronto, Chicago and Anaheim, no deal. Edler? refuses to waive. I don't blame Torts one bit and he did change his approach after that Dallas game. He also said, because of injury, he had to adapt his system to reflect the lack of depth, and most importantly, didn't revert to the original system "soon enough". Calm down bud. -

Therefore, so how about that Tortorella guy. You know... the Canucks' coach with three years and $6.000 MIL left on his contract? Is he the exception to the rule and can only coach one style? -
Kassian is not a lock on the 3rd line. He's just coming around.
