The owners pay the bills including salaries. Ultimately, they are the ones that make the big decisions and this last strand of decisions is an attempt at doing something about a sinking ship. It doesn't matter if an iceberg hit the haul (2011) or whether the hole is on this or that side (retool/rebuild), or whose fault it is (Gillis, Tortorella, players, bathroom attendant), what matters is, there is a hole in the haul.
This hole, after coming so close, is a Stanley Cup.
