So, the NHL and CHL have an agreement that as long as the players Junior teams season is in progress they cannot be assigned to the AHL.

Once the Junior teams season is over then they are eligible to play in the AHL.

Jake and Jared aren't underage. The AHL age limit is 18+, players in the CHL have to wait until they are 20 or have played 4 seasons of Major Junior hockey(CHL) to play in the AHL because that is when their junior eligibility is over. Typically anyone in the AHL under 20 are College or European players.

So Jake and Jared can play in the AHL playoffs but first there Junior teams season must be over, and in this case that means we would have to wait for their Junior team to be eliminated from the playoffs, then we can assign them to Utica.

      I hope that helped.

That's the agreement I'd like amended. I get the CHL doesn't want to be scorched of talent, but isn't the overall benefit in developing players the way the NHL teams that drafted them sees fit?

That discussion is for another place though. Thanks.

They can't because they are in the NHL and not in Juniors.  It's possible to join the AHL team once the Junior season is over but only for players who were playing in Juniors and not for the ones that are in the NHL already.
