  1. Can't even really give Brackett credit for the Bo pick either. Since he was an amateur scout and I doubt he was scouting the OHL for the Canucks. But maybe he was, I dunno. Just feels like he would be more of a college scout than a CHL one.
  2. He wasn’t after a promotion. He wanted more say in scouting/drafting.
  3. I'd probably have Hughes as my most exciting player. What he did with the puck this season was mesmerizing. No shade on Petey. I just think Hughes was that good. I guess they didn't want all the awards going to 4 players. Lol. That wouldn't have been the case if the Unsung hero didn't go to a MVP candidate. But it is what it is.
  4. Not sure I agree with Miller being a unsung hero. Guy is in my team MVP conversation. I really think Stecher and Tanev should have been front runners for unsung hero. Neither get the respect they deserve for what they bring. Stech works every bit as hard as Miller, but is unfortunately smaller. Stecher and Tanev are the only defenseman we have that work harder in the dzone than the ozone. Hughes is close though. Love Miller but you can't be a team MVP candidate, which I think he is and it's hard to argue against his overall value to the team, and be a unsung hero.
  5. I said before Lu even retired it was beyond stupid to punish a team for a contract signed before the new rule against that contract existed. NHL allowed the contract. You tell someone they can do something then punish them for doing that thing looks very bootleg. The worst part is the management crew that drew up that contract isn't even being punished. Benning is being punished for it. He didn't sign the contract punishing him for it is so stupid. I wish Vancouver would do more to fight it.
  6. Orca logo > Skate logo Skate colours > Orca colours The black, yellow and red looks so frickin’ good. But I really dig the Orca logo, I’m First Nations so maybe I’m bias.
  7. For sure, for sure. I agree with that point as well. If he can bring that physicality and tenacity in all 3 zones he has shown so far I am happy with this pick. He adds a dimension to our skilled guys that we are sorely missing, but he is not a Tarasenko/Ovechkin. Pod really does sound like he could become like JT Miller though. Miller wears his heart on his sleeve too and sometimes does too much when the team is getting clapped. He is great in all 3 zones, something that is regularly said about Pod. Can't wait for Miller to mentor Pod.
  8. I was really excited for Ferland's physicality coming into this season. But if it becomes detrimental to his health for the rest of his life. I'd rather he shy away from the physicality. I want this team to win, but not if it costs a player his health for the rest of his life. Concussions are scary and they linger forever if you get bumped enough. But if he can come back and bring some of that physicality and not suffer any more head trauma then we're gonna be a really scary team come playoffs.
  9. Based off what I read, his decision making problems stem from getting frustrated and attempting to do too much when things are going wrong. "The second knock on Podkolzin is that he can get carried away at times when he is frustrated and tries to do too much. This can also lead to ill-advised penalties. Yes, he’s still very young, but when he tries to make it a one-man show and doesn’t use his teammates properly, it can lead to turnovers and goals against. With maturity and good coaching, this can certainly be easily fixed." (The first knock was his point totals and his playing in so many different leagues) If that is his decision making knock it's not a bad one. Sounds like he plays the game very well in all zones, until things go wrong then he grips his stick too tightly and in a sense does too much. He tends to play hero ball and let his emotions get to him. There are worse decision making knocks. Jake's thinking the game being one. I don't see Pod's decision making being too detrimental if it's just him trying to do too much. I dunno if his emotions run so hot he takes cheap shots either. We'll see though. Thanks for the read. I never watched the draft on TV so I didn't hear them speak about Pod.
  10. How are they doing in cap next season? That is another potential option. Kinda figured they were hurting on cap though.
  11. Never heard anyone question his IQ. Mind telling me who said this? Not saying you’re lying or anything just curious. I agree it’s too early to anoint anyone as a 100 point player. Just let the kid play and develop. Putting lofty standards on prospects is why we still have people b*tch about Virtanen.
  12. Seen a video on the Canucks Youtube of the Canucks practicing and Jake trying to make it fun with some celebrations. Gotta be that darn immaturity showing again. Can't take anything seriously. Just trade the bum.
  13. I admit Toffoli is the most likely to be on the out. But his options are quite limited. His only real options from what I can see are LA or Vancouver. This comes down to being closer to home or winning. And Vancouver isn't that far from LA. So it's not like he'll have to jump through hoops to be near home. If he wants to keep winning and be close to home we have a really solid chance at retaining him. I am hopeful. I wouldn't consider him leaving a forgone conclusion, unless management just straight up doesn't make him an offer.
  14. Nobody is gonna have cap, so I am not too worried about potentially losing guys. They can leave, but where they gonna go? Lol. New Jersey? They are gonna need to save cap too for their big name draft picks eventually. Ottawa? Yeah I am sure players are lining up to go to play for a team owned by Melnyk. That's not even including the fact he wasn't even interested in paying Erik Karlsson. Is he gonna let the GM pay for UFAs during a pandemic? Doubtful. This team is on the up and up. Take a 1 or 2 year deal and stick with a playoff team. The alternatives aren't very good in free agency. Toffoli may return to LA, if they are interested in bringing him back. But I still believe he'd be down for Vancouver. West coast team, again in a much better position for playoffs than LA. Tanev and Marky will take cheaper deals to stay here. The alternatives are New Jersey or Ottawa.
  15. His off ice stuff is none of your concern. He has had a really good season. Clearly what he does in his spare time is not effecting his on ice play. I don't care he came to camp overweight, cause from game 1 of the games that matter he looked solid and had a very good season overall. You "think" he's selfish so we should trade him? This goes back to people making assumptions about a guy because he isn't Trevor Linden or Henrik Sedin or cause he doesn't sit in his bedroom 24/7 bathing in hand sanitizer or something. Would it be more ideal he does nothing and never goes anywhere or talk to anyone? Sure. But that's unrealistic to ask of anyone. Boeser came to camp slower than last season. Nobody bats an eye that he wasn't in perfect game shape at camp and was sluggish to start the season. Yes, it would be nice if Jake came into camp in perfect condition, but as long as he is fit to do his job in games that count that's all that matters to me. And he was. When this team got hit with injuries he was scoring a point per game rate on Bo's line.
  16. I feel like trading Virtanen would not be a smart move. The cap situation looks scary, but we just need to get to next summer and things should start to look better. Next summer sees Baer, Spooner's retention, Jordie Benn, Sutter and Pearson's contracts all potentially gone. Pearson would be nice to keep in that 4mil range. But if need be can let go if his ask is too high, which I am sure he is looking at the landscape and may keep his asking price low to stay on a up and coming team in a very safe province.
  17. Not to beat a dead horse here, but I was curious about something. I seen on Twitter from TSN radio that there was a discussion about the worst free agent signings in this club's history. Where I got curious was, some people were actively defending the Messier signing and some even went as far as to say the Eriksson signing is WAY worse than the Messier one. I was just curious how people think of the Eriksson signing in comparison to the Messier one. I wasn't even watching hockey when Messier was here, but hearing what he did just makes me furious. Lol. Do y'all think Eriksson is a worse signing than Messier? Do you think they are even comparable?
  18. It’s why I’ll never understand people crying saying his career was canceled. Lol. I joked about Russia but it’s not a bad place to earn a hockey living if you’re not good enough for the NHL.
  19. His play this season tells me he’s just fine. I dunno why we all care so much what he does in his free time. I have a hockey obsession but I’m not gonna micro analyze what these guys do in their spare time then make assumptions about their dedication to the game with little to no information. But that’s just me.
  20. And whose to say you can’t go out to a bar once in a while and still take Covid seriously? I’m anti social and even I need to leave my bubble once in a while, and I’m smart about keeping my proper distance with people. I’m not saying it’s necessary or he should do it often. But it’s not worthy of making a “Jake is being immature again” thread/post about it. Bars are open, I trust he knows the safety precautions. As do all of us when we go out.
  21. BC has one of the lowest amount of Covid cases, or am I incorrect? And what makes you think we don't take this seriously cause we don't lose our mind about a guy going to a bar? Lol. Does anyone here 100% take 0 risks of exposure? No. Holding Jake to that standard is a joke. But I forgot. Since they make millions they aren't allowed to have social lives while the rest of us do. You can take Covid seriously and not sit in your bedroom 24/7.
  22. I mean. A cap dump, a pending UFA and a broken prospect (so far, I still believe in his top 4 potential if he can stay healthy) for DeAngelo is a huge win for us. Let alone throwing in a young Swede with some middle 6 upside. People might not like DeAngelo as a person, but he's a right handed D-man that had 53 points in 68 games last season. Say what you will about DeAngelo but NY would never part with him alone for that package. Even if they were allowed to negotiate an extension with Tanev beforehand.
  23. Just as y’all are going way overboard being upset about him going out when he is allowed to go out. If it weren’t allowed the bar would not be open. If you told me he was licking door knobs and shaking hands with everyone he seen, sure. Guy’s a goof. But as of now he’s just going out and I trust he’s being safe and responsible about it until told otherwise.
  24. It's all good. I didn't mean for it to come off that way, just tried to bring up a name that I thought might sight out with regards to the OP. I don't actually believe anyone would sit out.
  25. Fair enough. Thanks for being so polite about bringing this news to me. Classy.
