  1. Gonna be real, I had to read this like 3 times to understand. I am too dumb for this.
  2. The draft pick hard on people have never ends. Stecher is old news. That 3rd round pick could be anything. Even a 3rd pairing d-man 5 years from now
  3. Two lefties is not happening on the bottom pair. It hasn't happened by this coaching staff with any regularity. I don't care how many left D we have. We aren't trading Stech to run Fanta/Benn on the bottom pair. neither of which even solidified themselves as a regular on the 3rd pair this season. Trading Stecher is idiotic as is the reasoning for it. Trade picks for a roster player just to trade a roster player for picks?
  4. No thank you. Guy hasn't played all season and there is no indication he is even working out or staying in game shape. On top of his massive cap hit? Hard pass.
  5. His agent mentioned some interest in a return. And the fact he hasn't extended in the KHL is also a good sign he might come back. Nothing concrete yet though.
  6. It's funny how quickly the fanbase turns on a player once we trade some draft picks. Now that we "need" draft picks all of a sudden we have a problem with Stecher. Lol. Guy is one of 2 players on our blueline that actually plays defense and on top of that has some intensity. He is a competitor. The d-man Hansen in my books. The idea you can't win in the playoffs cause of a hardworking, defensively responsible 3rd pairing d-man is 5'10 190 pounds is easily the most idiotic thing I seen lately. I never watched a Canucks game and thought, "wow Stecher is getting bullied out there". Sure throw the guy away going into the playoffs for Rafferty that I am sure none of you have watched play but you seen his hockeydb page. Lets waive/trade Roussel and throw Boucher in there too while we're at it.
  7. Why does the wife need to move? Vancouver is on the west coast, just like LA. Y’all have too much time on your hands, worrying about player’s wives.
  8. Juolevi for a 2nd and 3-4 months of Simmonds? Yeah if they take Eriksson and maybe Baer too. Lol.
  9. The likely return on Stech is a pick, given what most teams are trading for players. Just cause we can trade Stech doesn't mean we should. The price we get for him is not worth the value we potentially lose by making our team weaker. Throwing Rafferty in with no prior knowledge of how he'd fit is not wise. This isn't NHL 20 where if the overall is high enough it works. I'd rather give Rafferty a full season with the team to gel and gain chemistry rather than try force it to work down the stretch of a very important season for us. And if an injury should happen we just shot our self in the foot.
  10. Exactly my point. Just like adding Toffoli, now he can't torch us when he plays us. Lol.
  11. The only way I sign off on a Stecher deal is if we get a upgrade at the right D spot in another trade. Severson would be a nice add and could replace Tanev next season if need be. Would bolster our run this season and in future seasons. But just trading Stecher for the sake of a 3rd round pick is ass backwards.
  12. With our division, it's possible to win a round. But we have to finish in the top 2 of our division to have a really good shot at winning a round. Just getting there and competing is great though. Which is why I don't wanna trade any roster players for 3rd round picks.
  13. I don't recall Schneider, mostly cause I imagine it was one or two games? And Hansen plays bottom 6 wing. Rafferty and Chatfield would be playing defense which is harder to transition to in the NHL and much more valuable, even in a 3rd pair role. I accept the point there are players that get thrown in and it's fine, I still don't think we should do it. It's a bit too high risk for a team that is this inexperienced in my books. And they are both undrafted players. Not exactly top flight prospects.
  14. This coaching staff has not used lefties on the right side consistently outside of injury situations. Why do people keeping bringing up lefties as replacements for righties? And if an injury happens what is a 3rd round draft pick gonna do for us in the playoffs? Chatfield and Rafferty we don't even know if they can handle the NHL, let alone throwing them in right at the playoffs. It makes little sense, especially after trading picks for Toffoli. This isn't NHL 20 where players sell and buy simultaneously. Right hand depth on defense is way too thin to sell one of the few NHL caliber d-men we do have for a 3rd rounder of all things. I'd trade Stecher to upgrade our right d, not to recoup a mid round draft pick. Lol.
  15. I almost have Woo in the Hog and Pod category of prospect. Mostly cause he's our only good defensive prospect on the right side. He is physical, and has that intensity. It's obvious he takes the WJ snubs to heart. Like that about him. I wouldn't trade him and Eriksson for Simmonds. Honestly.
  16. Myers would sure appreciate that add. It was Manson that rag dolled him right?
  17. I understand the draft pick stuff. It’s tough seeing our 1st and 2nd gone this year. But I think playoffs at this stage of our transition is more important than a 3rd/4th rounder. We have the foundational pieces, getting them that experience should be our top priority.
  18. And if he or another righty gets injured? What if he isn't ready? Boucher is a beast in the AHL, we aren't trading Pearson or Roussel etc to make room for him. I just don't see it being wise trading Stecher right now with our right hand depth on D.
  19. That's well and nice, but the coaching staff has the final say on where you play. I am sure Virtanen would prefer playing with good players in the top 6 but that hasn't happened with any sort of regularity and seems more like a punishment to the guy he is replacing rather than coaching staff actually trusting him. Until I see this coaching staff actually try something like a LD on the right side I will doubt they move Stecher to put a lefty on the right.
  20. Just don't qualify him, let him go to FA. If he wants the most money possible he can leave. Or he can stay at a fair price that Benning and company negotiate with him in Free Agency. Losing Stecher won't hurt us too much. But overpaying him can. Don't risk an arbitrator giving him 3+mil. And I'd rather not trade him right after buying Toffoli. It's clear we are gunning for playoffs. Why hurt our depth just to get a 3rd rounder? If I recall we didn't even draft Stecher. Not like he was a high pick or a super talent we are letting walk for nothing.
  21. People saying it's okay cause er have [Enter name of Left D here], I doubt the coaching staff will run a Lefty on the right side or vice versa. This team hasn't really done that since Erhoff/Edler, that I can recall. I doubt they'll do it with bottom pair talent like Benn, Fantenberg or potentially Tryamkin. If I am Benning I try find a home for Benn long before I entertain the idea of moving Stecher. Breezer, Sautner, Juolevi, Fanteberg, and Tryamkin all could fill his void, could even throw Teves in there AND Rathbone if he decides to go pro when the college season ends. But we have only Rafferty and maybe Chatfield, if you really value his game, to fill holes on the right side. Also this isn't really a rumor so much as it is speculation. There is nothing out there suggesting Stecher's name is on the block. Or at least that tweet in the OP is pure speculation.
