Value of Trading for Jordan Greenway (Discussion)
JeremyCuddles replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Yeah it sucks to see. Want to like Nurse cause he’s good and tough player, but his diving really makes it difficult. He should be above that shenanigans. Then again Kes was pretty tough but wasn’t against diving. Lol. -
Looking at Capfriendly we have 18mil this summer. If we make no trades. Virtanen - 3.5mil Gaudette - 2mil x 2 Stecher - 2.5mil x 1 (I am pretty sure he is arbitration eligible) Markstrom - 6mil x 6 Fantenberg - 900k Total: 14.9mil out of 18mil. Tanev we should walk away from. Virtanen I can see getting a one year prove you're top 6 deal. Gaudette is getting a bridge deal for no more than 2mil, personally I think they give him the Virtanen contract (the one Jake is currently on). 2 years 1.25mil per. Went with a high ball though. No way he makes more than 2. Stecher goes to arbitration and they give him 2.5-3mil per. He is on pace for like 14 points and doesn't play a heck of a lot so I doubt he breaks bank even via arbitration. Fantenberg comes back at 850-900k or is let go and we run Breezer Juolevi and/or Sautner. Marky is the real wild card. He is hard carrying this team so far. Yes Miller and Petey have lots of points but Marky has stolen us more than a few games. Hellebuyck money is where I see Marky ending up, which is roughly 6.2mil per. All things considered Sutter at 30-50% retained and letting Tanev walk could free us the cap needed to retain those that matter and ice roughly the same team next season. Let Leivo walk and throw our boy Hoglander in there More money saved.

I wonder how much of an offensive role Pod was given. I didn't really watch the tourney with the timezones and such but from what I did watch I didn't see Pod used a whole lot with the more skilled Russian players. He is a lot like Jake in that he doesn't need to be scoring or playing with offensive players to have a positive impact on the game. Albeit he is a superior Jake with a far better forecheck and all around game.

Value of Trading for Jordan Greenway (Discussion)

And Roussel got tuned as well. I'd still consider Roussel an imposing figure. Point is getting beat up by a very strong opponent is not an indictment of your toughness in my eyes. I don't imagine very many people wanna fight Greenway, regardless of how badly he lost to Nurse. -

In Greenway's defense, when Nurse isn't an Olympic diver he is a pretty tough customer. The fact he was even willing to fight Nurse is more than we can say about any one on the Canucks. Except Ferland but at this point I am thinking fighting may not be best for his health. -
He seems like a guy that isn't getting many chances but is still doing everything in his power to get noticed. I kept asking to see him on the PP. Getting the Jake Virtanen treatment, outplaying the guys playing more than him but not moving up the lineup. Podkolzin is gonna be a huge fan favourite in Vancouver. Guy plays hard every time he is out there.

Meh, didn't notice him much but not every WJC star goes on to do anything special in the NHL so him not lighting the world on fire isn't super relevant. I like his game and still think he'll be a star when it counts, when he is wearing blue and green. And occasionally red, black and yellow assuming we keep doing those in the future.

We are in the playoffs as of now, which would mean we lose this year's pick if we stay in the playoffs. Ideally I'd rather the team just be a playoff team now. We have Pod, Hoglander, Lind, and Woo. We aren't in desperate need for high end young players. Steal some more Euros in the 2nd and 3rd round. We'll live without this year's 1st.

Boeser for Greenway and Zucker On a serious note, we have enough middling guys. If we aren't targeting sure fire top 6ers I say pass. Our bottom 6 is clean af right now. Top 6 could use another weapon. Greenway wouldn't fill that role. -
Sounds like there was no negotiations, just Friedman saying they may have had some preliminary interest. But obviously a league minimum guy on a two way and a 1 year contract is a lot more appealing. Baer is the superior player, but at nearly 4mil for one more season after this one with a one way contract their interest never really manifested into negotiating with Benning. Cap is very valuable, if you're gonna gamble on somebody make it as low risk as possible.

[Report] Kurtis MacDermid suspended 2 games
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
Provorov's body was like that the entire time he was skating which started in his own zone. It wasn't a last minute body adjustment where MacDermid couldn't adjust quick enough to change where he was hitting. It was a head hit. Period. Not sure which hit you watched. -
Montreal's popularity at the team's lowest would never fall below Florida even at their highest. I'd say 10 times outta 10 they would be more popular even if the sucked really bad.

Also said it's a fun nickname if you feel like quoting his entire stance on it. I am sure he doesn't lose sleep over it and I am sure he understands the fans enjoy it. But hey, feel free to keep crying about it on his behalf. I prefer calling him Petey anyway, albeit a much lamer nickname. -
Goalies make no effort to stop anything, am I the only one that actually watches the ASG? We as fans worry way too much about every little thing. He'll be okay, he is just as likely to get hurt taking a shower as he is at the ASG. Just be happy for a while. It's okay.

By far our MVP, been saying it all year. Dude has been lights out, and given what he has gone through it just shows how much heart and fortitude he has. How can you not cheer for this guy? Very well deserved nod for Marky. I will watch the ASG weekend just for him honestly.

Biggest Positive and Negative Surprises at the Halfway Point
JeremyCuddles replied to JamesB's topic in Canucks Talk
PP is a positive surprise, but with the fire power we have you probably don't have to coach them at all to get scoring. Although I find the 2nd unit has better overall possession but with the weapons on the 1st unit they don't need sustained time to net some points. Fantenberg is a pleasant surprise as well. I love Bulldog but Fantenberg is a pretty significant upgrade in my books. Miller I knew would be good, but he's been unreal good. Trading a 1st rounder for a 14 goal scoring cap dump lookin' pretty good so far. On the negative side, the team defense is hard to watch a lot of the time. So passive. Just stand around letting the opposing team do whatever they please. Seems like the defense is only aggressive against certain PPs. But overall I hate the "sit in the slot and catch pucks or pray the goalie can see past the 5 man screen and stop the puck" style we been playing. And then there's Baer and Ferland's injury woes. Not gonna take shots at them but it really is disheartening to see them struggle with their health. I still think Baer can play but I don't think the team wants to chance it, similar to what happened with Manny or more accurately Willie Mitchell. Ferland looked really good when he came back from his first injury, then went down again. Imagine this team with those two healthy. We'd be even better off.
