[GDT] Penguins @ Canucks Dec 21 7PM on CBC Winter Solstice Edition

I'm on your side here, I don't think it's wise to break apart a line that is working to fill the whole on the top line. -

No need to beat your head against a wall, if the facts aren't enough it's a lost cause. -
Lias Andersson reminds me a bit of Kasperi Kapanen. Not big, but has that edge to them. I would definitely inquire if I am Benning. I know the stat watchers will look at his numbers and say well he's bad, but something might be going on there. Well something IS going on there if he's asking out. He had a good year last year. 20 points in 36 games. Although the -24 that season looks less than ideal. Lol. But on the same note, gotta be careful he's not another Dahlen. Maybe he thinks he should be in the NHL when he's not ready. And because of that he isn't respecting his time in the AHL.

I like Jake, think he deserves more ice time. I think that can happen by playing the 3rd line more. and by doing that the top 6ers can stay a bit more fresh. The 3rd line has been really good as a group. Hockey Gaud, Rooster and Shotgun Jake have the coolest names on the team too. Lol. Gotta keep em rolling together. Don't wanna break apart 2 lines to fill a hole on one. -

2-3 months for Leivo? Brutal. No call by the refs, nobody stepped up to make what's his face answer. Whole thing is disgusting. -

I feel bad for Bo. Guy gets a decent running mate and concussions derail him. Now he gets the carousel of linemates, although when Pearson is on he's a good complimentary winger just not a bonafide top 6 guy in my books. Podkolzin can't come soon enough. Pearson Horvat and Pod would be nasty on the forecheck and around the net. -
Problem is Jake would need to at the very least get the same opportunities as Bert. Say what you will about Crow but he allowed players to play through mistakes, especially when their potential was so high. One of the biggest talking points about the Sedins early days was how often Crawford kept throwing them out on the PP even when it wasn't working. You learn by doing, failing, and understanding what does and doesn't work. Jake is being told, and when it doesn't work immediately he gets punished. Then people say "well he has no IQ". Which I wholeheartedly disagree with. 23 year old Bert was getting 18 minutes of ice time a game, with PP time not sure if it was significant time. 23 year old Jake is getting 12 a game and only just recently did he start getting the final 30 seconds of PPs. Even with Bert's lowest ice time which was the 25g 25a season he was getting at least 15 minutes a game with PP time. If Green loosens the leash enough for Jake to learn through mistakes maybe we'll see some of what we hoped he could achieve when we drafted him. Green said after Virtanen's Utica season that he sees Jake as a 10-15 goal, 3rd line winger. I am guessing that's why we don't see Jake unleashed as often as we'd like.

Yeah, giving it to Petey and Miller. Flat stats are nice and all but the eye test shouldn't be discounted. Not tryin' to roast Boeser he's a character guy and I love him. He's a good and smart player but his hands are pretty poor. Might be a confidence thing, I dunno. But the amount of times he passes to the opposing player is too often. People catch every little mistake Jake makes but most everyone else gets a pass. Boeser's hands and playmaking I'd argue are worse than Jake's but because he plays to the two best forwards on the team he is "on pace for 50 assists".

Hope Murray is in net. Boeser could use a hat trick here. -
I'd agree if physicality was a major part of his game. I think the biggest upside to his height is his reach. Not the fact he pushes around kids. But it is true he is a man among boys. He's very likely in the NHL next season because of that size. Lafreniere's elite level offensive talent probably still has him on most lists 1 spot though. He also has NHL level size right now if the 6'1 192 numbers are correct.

He should work with Boeser. More often than not Boeser’s passes are atrocious.

Hughes is getting a tad bit exposed defensively with his added looks though. I can recall a few times he is either no where near the guy he needs to be or leaves his guy for no real reason and leaves his D partner out to dry. I love Hughes, but I think it's a mistake to play him this hard. Give Fantenberg and Benn a couple extra shifts each. They look good overall and it keeps all 3 fresh. It's a good learning experience for Hughes but I do worry it'll break him down before January/February.
-
Green has had him for like 3ish years. Lol. I love Jake but Green has done decently well with his development. That year in Utica was the biggest reason Jake found a home in the NHL. Last couple years Jake has expanded on it. I would like for Green to give him more responsibility but overall Green helped get Jake here years ago in Utica. It was up to Jake to expand on what he was taught that year.

The male figures I respected in my life, my uncle (mother's closest brother) and my father cheer for the Canucks. I had mild interest at the start because of them. Then in school lots of kids liked the Canucks and I started following them more closely. And when I first seen BMo, Big Bert, Nazzy, Ohlund and Cloutier I really started to follow this team. I am sure people will ask why I liked Cloutier and it's cause I loved his lid. It was so plain yet looked cool.

Anaheim will be the team to watch!

No IQ, no hands, fewer TOI, all while still outproducing Kase while also being a physical presence. But that’s none of my business. Definite upgrade -
Yeah I loved Soderstrom all year last year but Pod wasn’t supposed to drop like he did, at least in my opinion, so grabbing him was just smart. I’m glad Soderstrom is progressing well, I like the kid.

I was on Gaudette for not being good enough early in the year, and even I give a hard no to the first deal. Straight up? Maaaaaaybe. But Stech and hockey Gaud is a hard no for me. And by extension makes the 2nd deal a no since we’d still have Stech. -
