  1. Is he coming onto me? Why is a winger waving at me in regards to a LD discussion? I don't think his signing effects Rathbone's spot in the franchise. Lol.
  2. A possibility. But I think Hirose has enough NHL upside that they aren't bringing him in as a AHL guy. But I won't deny the possibility. We have a lot of depth though. I just can't see us keeping Rathbone.
  3. I like it. I gotta wonder what this means for Rathbone though. Breezer, Wolanin all knocking on the door. As well. Add in Hirose, I just don't see a fit for Rathbone. Combo him with someone else to move out cap?
  4. I am still trying to figure out how Gudbranson managed to get that contract. Lol. He had a good season for Calgary, but I dunno. I guess I assumed a team would take a short term approach with him. 2x4 doesn't look nearly as bad as the 4x4 he got. Hell, even 2x5 would be better. But yeah, I can see Gavrikov getting roughly 6mil per. He's fit in pretty well with LA, they should try really hard to lock him up. Move cap where possible. Defensive D are hard to gauge price wise. Mattias Ehholm is better than Gavrikov, he has a 6.25mil cap hit. So I'd say that's about the area Gavrikov goes.
  5. How times have changed. People were mad that we took Beauvillier back. "We retained on Horvat and still took a cap dump that can't produce." As if that 5 month retention really mattered to begin with. But now we have a guy producing more for us than the player we traded him for is producing for that team. This trade was gold when we made it, and has aged like fine wine since. Even just dodging that 8.5mil anchor is a major win. Let alone Hronek and Raty panning out.
  6. That's fair. I think he's right in line with our depth guys. Not an upgrade or downgrade. Although fit wise I'd probably lean towards downgrade. Small, requires protected deployment. We can throw guys like Breezer, Burroughs, and Juulsen out there with sub 50% ozone starts better than we could with Gross. He gives me poor man's Yannick Weber vibes. Which isn't a particularly positive endorsement.
  7. Agreed. It's why I try not to get caught up in the hype. Try being the operative word. Livingstone is still the guy I would want if I had to choose. Ideally I want them both cause it sounds like Hirose is defensively really responsible. And I feel defence is an ability that translates to the NHL the easiest. If I had to guess, I assume that's maybe the idea. Take the more defensively responsible of the two. Take the Chris Tanev instead of the Justin Schultz type situation. Not to say Livingstone is Schultz. But a cool, calm and collected defensively responsible guy fits into any team. Very intrigued to see how this plays out.
  8. Cause not all UFA defencemen would be bad. Ever think about that? Or just about how things can go wrong. Kind of a weird way to waddle through life, but more power to you I guess.
  9. That's nice. But I feel like being in the NHL requires consistent high level of play. If a team that has made a career of finding great D-men waives you. I'll pass. But if you believe he's legit cause he scored twice on Demko. By all means. Are you Skip Bayless by chance?
  10. Hirose's birthday is a couple days before mine. Lock him up. Edit: Dhaliwal saying the Canucks were primarily targeting Hirose and not Livingstone is interesting tidbit. So much for the why don't they want to play here narrative some were crying about. I personally would have had him at the top of my list. But I don't have the scouting the Canucks have so what do I know? Lol. Just interesting to hear that the Canucks, apparently, weren't targeting Livingstone. Wonder what they see or don't see in him.
  11. Worse possession numbers and looks like he requires a lot of ozone starts. He has 65% ozone starts to Juulsen's 45%. Doesn't hit or block more than Juulsen. 3 goals is nice, I guess. But production wise it's more or less a wash. Especially when you consider their vastly different deployment. Gross doesn't bring anything we don't already have. He's a offensive D that isn't really good at that. We need defenders that defend. Juulsen does that better than Gross. As well as providing more physical stuff. He's not a clear upgrade on anyone on our roster imo. He has had more birthdays than games played in the NHL. That should tell you all it needs to.
  12. Remember the time we were 20-31 or something, then a 10 win March crapped all over that. Lol. On the bright side, our pick gets closer to Reinbacher range. Assuming another team doesn't go Moritz Seider and take him near the top 5.
  13. This isn't a trade, rumor, or signing. And it's an overreaction to two instances involving college kids.
  14. Since we're free falling outta the top 10 in the draft. May as well trade that pick to move OEL. Sign Gavrikov. Not sure why we want Barbashev when we have 2 wingers we want to move for cap space.
  15. There have been like 5 sports related riots since the 2011 Vancouver riot. Why do people act like that 2011 riot was the biggest thing ever. In Europe one riot had multiple casualties. Guess cause it's Europe no one cares. But bro. Why are we constantly the riot punching bag? Two separate world series had riots since the 2011 Vancouver riot.
  16. It's easier to sell Euro/Russians on Vancouver. It's kind of why our history is riddled with Swedes and what not. Canadians and Americans will gravitate to the US/hometowns. Everywhere is foreign to Euros/Russians. Like I said, it's why we make a habit of targeting them. Selling Kuz on us is easy, we have opportunities and Petey.
  17. This actually really blows. You never truly appreciate what you have, til it's gone. These last 8ish years have sucked, but John Garrett was always a staple voice that added some fun and energy to the games. His presence will sorely be missed. I wish him well in retirement though. He's more than earned it. Sounds like he'll still be around in a lesser capacity though. So that's good to hear.
  18. What do you mean? 28 is right in the age bracket we want. The problem is if you're being waived by Toronto, a team with bad defence and short on toughness, something is probably not right. His age isn't the problem, his lack of ability probably is. Guy has 45 hits and 59 blocks in 67 career games. He has size and doesn't really use it. 12 points in his career, no goals. Very few takeaways and a lot of giveaways. Hard pass. Lacks skill and doesn't do much with his size.
  19. It should probably be locked now. Bo trade only happened cause his future was uncertain. Miller is locked up. I just don't see how an emtionally improved Miller gets dealt. He's pure positive value to the team and it's direction.
  20. Schenner does not need to bring any offence. If he reverts to 7 point a season Schenn, as long as he is defensively responsible and hits, he's a good 3rd pair guy.
  21. I wouldn't mind if they went on a run here. It's always fun to see underdogs do some damage. It's not like signing him on the 24th vs after the 8th matters all that much. Part of me is also scared that he'll reject us, so the longer that can is pushed down the road the more mental damage I can do to myself worrying about something so trivial.
  22. I like this idea. It's pretty much what I wanted us to do with Stecher. Bear is a perfectly fine 3rd pair guy. 1.5mil isn't breaking the bank. It just works. Also kicks the can down the road on Woo potentially developing into roster piece. If he can manage it at all.
