2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, BC
JeremyCuddles replied to Qwags's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
I’m sure that would get sorted out in the interview process. Podkolzin’s only real comment on the NHL was he wanted to stay in Russia until he’s NHL ready. I think the Russian thing is overblown. Also 2 years to develop in Russia is no different than drafting Caufield and letting him develop 2 years in College. Hell he could stay longer and leave us for nothing. But there’s no “college problem”. Honestly I doubt we’ll have to worry anyway, I don’t see Podkolzin dropping to us. -

Podkolzin sounds more like a Benning guy than Tryamkin. What makes you think he isn’t a Benning guy? -
Edmonton’s already porous defence becomes even worse. I like it.

He’s definitely an anchor, but in this analogy teams are cars and he’s slowing you down. -

I like the Stecher example of size meaning nothing. Guy plays like he's 6'8. Probably cause he has to being so small. Lol. -

Bobby Mac has them both listed as early 2nd rounders. It'd be a longshot to see them in the 3rd round, but you never really know. -

I mentioned Lassi Thomson a few pages back as a guy I'd be interested in with our 2nd rounder. Especially if we went with a forward with our 1st rounder. Thomson is a bit of a project and a fair bit older than most in the draft class but I like his game a fair bit. He could end up going to Liiga next season like Juolevi did. He's got NHL size and a good tool box. A year in Liiga could really do wonders for his game and he could be one of those guys that in a re-draft teams would have taken in the 1st. Haven't read up on Korczak yet, I'll probably do that now that you mentioned him. -
[Proposal] Revamped Wingers/Defence

Not for his full cap hit. Dallas would give us a 4th rounder for him if we retained half. But no team will give up a 4th rounder for him for his full cap hit. Like I said it's easy enough to hit the cap floor via free agency at the expense of no draft picks. So this makes no sense for Ottawa. -

You're crazy if you think Eriksson doesn't have negative value. Even though they need cap to hit the floor, they can do it via free agency by overpaying for bottom 6ers like we did. And they have leverage, we want the cap gone and nobody will take on the full 6mil in cap for free. Let alone giving us a 4th rounder for him straight up. -

No, we have a Burakovsky in Goldy. -

If you’re 6’7 you’re Chara and if you’re 5’11 and under you’re a smurf. CDC has already spoken. -

Need some more righties me thinks, but I dunno. -
I imagine Russia is considered a pro league but I have 0 clue whether or not he'd be exempt. Honestly I think we are losing a goalie anyway so it won't matter if we have to expose Stecher or Hutton on defense in order to protect Tryamkin, assuming he is even worth protecting. Either way that's a problem for tomorrow, if he can play in February you let him play in February. Expansion draft exemption be damned.

Getting Kakko and the biggest thing we give up is the 10th overall pick. DiPietro is a long shot to be a starter. Lind looks like an okay middle 6 player if he reaches the NHL at all and I don't really see that 1st being in the top 10 next year. Also, the Oilers never traded kids/picks for other star studded kids. They just never surrounded their kids with quality vets cause they kept trading them for picks. So not sure the comparison works here.

This is said about every draft. Lol. These are 17/18 year old kids. It's hard to predict how they'll turn out. Benning and company didn't even think Petey would be this good and they were the ones that took him. I am not saying never listen to Button, but don't ONLY listen to Button. Everyone is liable to make mistakes and over look things or over exaggerate things. Button's opinion of Podkolzin feels like an over exaggeration to one tourney late into the hockey season. -

Looking at that draft Jake in the 2nd round is still a stretch even in hindsight. -
[Discussion] You Are the GM
JeremyCuddles replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Stralman and Connolly I'd throw money at, maybe Lee but I doubt he gets to Free Agency. Stralman for 2-3 years at 5.5. Connolly I'd throw 4ish mil at. Good middle 6 dollars. If Lee gets to free agency I'd strongly consider 6mil per. But I probably wouldn't pursue both Connolly and Lee. Unless we offload Eriksson and/or Sutter. -

Podkolzin is not Jake Virtanen for one. He is everything we wish Virtanen was, minus Russian since so many hate Russians I guess. -

Talent is all well and good, but he may as well be the analytics guy of scouts. Intangibles are just as important as skill. Which is why it's a bit of a joke he has Podkolzin ranked so low. At least in my opinion. Not to mention it seems like a knee jerk reaction when for 90% of the season he considered Podkolzin a top 5 talent but in one month drops him pretty much 10 spots. -

Button does his ranking on who he thinks is the best. He had Virtanen as a 2nd rounder at the 2014 draft if I recall correctly. -
[Proposal] Canucks-Islanders

Madden is playing incredibly well and I have grown attached to college players. They are the new Euros from the 90s early 2000s. You can draft some in the 3rd-5th round and they can become elite talent (not saying Madden will be elite but his potential intrigues me a lot). Especially since this kid was drafted at 150 pounds, and at nearly 6' he could easily put on like 20-30 pounds of muscle and not have it negatively effect his speed. Bode has the lower floor but I feel Madden has the higher ceiling. -

I mean, we can draft forwards in the 2nd round too. Doesn’t mean we should. If you like a guy at your pick. Take him, regardless of position. -
