  1. Go for Lias Andersson outta NY to reunite with Petey from that World Junior team that threw away their medals.
  2. Zacha is a 3rd liner at best with a very long shot at being a complimentary top 6er on a really good line, essentially their Virtanen. I'd rather go for a younger kid in their system with legit upside.
  3. 5 was my initial thought as well, maybe they are expecting him to expand on his season. Only 24, so maybe he improves his offensive totals.
  4. 6 points in 10 games for Makar in the playoffs. He looked pretty frickin' awesome with them too. Honestly. I think it'd be a lateral move at best.
  5. They don't necessarily need the cap, they're getting nearly 6mil in cap space in expiring contracts this summer alone with no significant re-signings on the horizon, and probably value Seabrook's leadership. 5 years of Seabrook at nearly 7 mil isn't too bad for a team just entering a rebuild and they likely could get rid of him down the line relatively easily when they leave their rebuild. For us though, it'd be pretty bad to take on that contract assuming he'd even waive to come here. We gotta protect him in the expansion draft cause of his NMC. That 7mil will disappear quickly if Petey and Hughes continue to build on their strong starts. All in all I don't think either side would be interested. None of the players we are giving up are worth a lot. They are losing a top 3 pick and some leadership for the 10th overall, a bottom 6 forward and a long shot starting goalie . We are taking in cap we might not be able to afford to take on down the line. Value wise we take them for a lot, but bigger picture the Seabrook cap has me scared. I'd probably take that deal from the Canucks standpoint, give you a hard no if I am Chicago.
  6. I think Bouchard can go to the AHL next season. So it's not CHL or NHL for him.
  7. 30 points, 24 minutes a game, 161 blocks, 143 hits. Doesn't take care of the puck it seems. 92 giveaways to 30 takeaways. Not sure he warrants a near 6mil contract. But hey, if that's what Dallas thinks is best by all means. I don't watch enough Dallas games to know how valuable he is to the team. Seems like a bit too much.
  8. I mean, he had a low ceiling and wasn't a safe pick. He was 20 when we drafted him, had shown 0 scoring touch. Nothing about him was impressive. Pick was pretty sketchy even at the time. Sure it's a 5th rounder, who cares but still a pretty bad pick even at the time he made it I had no hopes for this guy.
  9. Thankfully Soderberg is literally on no one's list. Who'd waste a top 10 pick drafting a 33 year old under contract with Colorado? Hopefully not Benning.
  10. I mean, we aren’t improving our weakest position necessarily. Cause we're trading a player in our weakest position for a similar player, so it’s pretty lateral. Unless you mean RHD specifically.
  11. If that’s management’s assessment by all means make the move. But even so if we are giving Edmonton a potential elite goalie I want more than the 8th overall.
  12. I am not a fan of the anti-Russian stance many take. But lets not pretend Podkolzin is on Malkin's level. Lol. But yeah if Podkolzin, a guy considered a top 5 talent damn near all year until Button seen one tourney, drops to 10 it'd be silly to say "hard pass, he's Russian".
  13. Take the goalie off and they never accept calls from you again.
  14. Their success shouldn’t diminish his talent. Yeah they improved their stock but Hughes is still an undeniable talent. Recency bias shouldn’t knock him outta the top 2.
  15. In conference, I'd say no. But I am pretty high on Demko still so my valuation of him may be too high. It'd really depend on who is at 8. I know we love the wingers of the draft, but Demko has shown signs of being potentially elite. I'm too scared to gamble his potential for that of a winger. But that might just be me.
  16. Yeah Button gets way too much credit around here. He's a bit of a goof imo, but he is right often enough that I gotta take some of what he says into account. I still think he is incorrect in his assessment of Podkolzin. Having Podkolzin at 13 is an absolute joke to me. If he's around at 10 I'd be yelling at my tv for Benning to take him. Button likely suffers from what most fans do, recency bias. We'll see how this all shakes out in 5ish years though. Lol.
  17. Soderstrom in the SHL gives him the edge over Broberg for me. If we do go a d-man at 10 my vote is Soderstrom. I been riding high on Soderstrom all year though so I do have a dog in this fight. I like Seider but I'd rather trade down for him. The mock drafts I seen have him in the 20 range. Taking him at 10 is a bit too off the board for my liking. Although he's been playing pretty good in the Worlds. Gotta be climbing some lists because of it.
  18. Podkolzin, as has been stated numerous times already, is a dog on the puck. He battles and plays hard. So they don't have an advantage on him in that category. Also, he's 6'1 190 right now at 17, chances are he'll be 6'2 200-210 at the NHL level. Podkolzin is a big boy too. Again, not a decisive advantage for them over Podkolzin. Podkolzin, even if what Button says is true, is still ahead of both of them in the offensive potential category while being good and reliable defensively. The only d-man I'd take in this draft over Podkolzin is Byram.
  19. I read that report. I think he was referring to high end skill. Unless we are talking about two different reports. Button has Kaliyev above Podkolzin. His opinion has become invalid as far as I am concerned. Lol. Bob McKenzie's list had 8 of 10 scouts say Podkolzin is the 3rd best prospect in this draft. I trust Bob McKenzie's opinion over Button's personally.
  20. The more I read up on this kid the more I doubt he'd even get that far down the list. Lol. I'd be surprised if he's around at 6/7 let alone 10. If he's on the board at 10 I probably sprint to the podium to call his name.
  21. I'm sure people aren't just walking up to him to give him information. I reckon he needs to do some digging. But yeah, to call him a brilliant hockey mind is a stretch.
  22. I read two different scouting reports, lastwordonhockey and dobberprospects, and both say he has great stickhandling and can embarrass defenders. So I am not entirely sure where you read this. Feel free to let me know. This guy's intangibles honestly scream Benning guy. He battles, never quits on a play, has good leadership qualities. I seen both of those scouting reports call him a power winger. He's 6'1 nearly 200 pounds already according to eliteprospects. Everything we want outta Virtanen this kid has, minus the hitting.
  23. People make it sound like all of these kids will be in the NHL within the next 2 years. Lol. Leaving a really talented player on the board cause we won't see him within the next 2 years is incredibly shortsighted. As for the OP's question. It really depends who is hypothetically on the board at the time. There are a lot of forwards in the 5-10 range I like ahead of Podkolzin. Edit: Really the only downsides I am hearing is "he's Russian" and he is committed to KHL for 2 years. People talk about him like he doesn't want anything to do with the NHL. From what I am seeing all he said was he wanted to stay in Russia until he was NHL ready. Why is it so wrong for him to develop in Russia? People on this board are drooling from the lips to see Tryamkin back. Didn't play a lick of time in the AHL nor does he have the intangibles of Podkolzin. Podkolzin is considered close to NHL ready. So he should be in the NHL in 2 years. If that's too long a wait for a 17 year old kid I dunno man.
  24. No thanks, I said it before our time to weaponize cap space was like 2 seasons ago. Lucic has too much term and he's complete trash. Pool party at this rate is lucky to be half as effective Virtanen. Newhook could very likely be around at 10 and if not, Krebs, Boldy, Podkolzin or another really good forward should be around. And honestly I don't even think Edmonton would bite on this. Similarly to us with Virtanen they likely don't want to trade Pool party and risk him achieving his draft potential. If your first move is trading Pool party to get rid of Lucic's contract and he breaks out as a 20-30 goal scorer your career is effectively done. If they are trading him it better be for a legit roster player (top 6), not to find someone to take Lucic's contract.
