  1. To be fair to Sutter he wasn’t injury prone until he came to Vancouver. It’s just the Canuck injury curse.
  2. Nope. Hughes/Kakko are not gonna be better than the guy we’d get with our 1st, plus Juolevi and Jake. Let alone Leivo and our 2nd rounder thrown in too.
  3. I haven't seen them yet, usually wait until it's all up on youtube. If that's the case I feel bad. We never lose games cause of something Eriksson did wrong. Would we win more if he produced? Sure, possibly. But that's no reason to crap on the guy. He reminds me of Gudbranson when he was here. Effort is there, results are just lacking for whatever reason.
  4. For sure, he's not detrimental to the team and we aren't in desperate need for cap. I am okay keeping Loui.
  5. As much as I like Hutton, they could get someone like him in Free Agency. In all likelihood. So they are moving two guys for Eriksson, guy hasn't hit 30 points in 3 seasons. Albeit injuries stopped him from doing it last season. I don't think we are moving his contract in it's entirety without overpaying a team in assets. Even a team that believes he can be good there. Cause they have all the leverage in the world with Eriksson's play.
  6. I’d be okay with this. Not entirely sure what their D situation looks like though. How much would they value a bottom pairing LD?
  7. Tanev doesn't add depth to this team. He's in the infirmary so often it's more of a hindrance to the team trying to get some stability in the roster. When you aren't sure how long he'll be around for it can kinda screw with the chemistry. Not to mention it screwed with Utica as well. People are so caught up in his hypothetical value that they overlook the actual value he has brought to this team. Which lets be honest isn't much. His value is at an all time low, I get that but I'd argue he may even be hurting this team more than helping. Addition by subtraction. With that said I don't think he goes anywhere, no value in it for the team in a trade. Especially since we aren't in desperate need for cap. I hope to the hockey gods he can make me eat crow next season.
  8. Maybe an unpopular opinion but I think I'd rate Hedman above Karlsson personally. I am bias towards two way players though. Lol.
  9. I can and did compare hits. Cause it plays into my overall point that Goldy when not scoring has 0 effect on the game whereas Jake scores at a similar rate and provides defense AND hits. And yes, Eriksson is a superior top 6 option to Goldy and on top of that Eriksson can even play in the bottom 6. Goldy doesn't deserve to be in the top 6 over the guys we have. Period. His skill set doesn't lend itself to the bottom 6. Period. Goldy has had a ton of leeway. Guy for the first 4 months of the season brought very little effort and yet was still rewarded for it with game time with our best two scoring options. Goldy's point totals if he were playing with the guys Jake plays with would probably nose dive. I agree it doesn't hurt to throw him a one year deal. See if he comes to camp next season with a sense of urgency. He fizzles out. Whatever. Shop him or waive him, it's no skin off our backs. I don't see him beating out a healthy Baer and Pearson on the left side nor do I see him beating out Boeser on the right side. If we don't sign anyone this off season he'll realistically only have one spot that he can take.
  10. As much as I like Tanev, he's easily replaceable. Just find someone solid in their own end that can actually give you 65-70+ games. Anything more than that is a bonus.
  11. Botchford? Is that you? With a title like that you should be a media member. Nothin’ but class.
  12. I mean. St Louis’ record sucked early. Buffalo was pushing first in the league at one point. Some teams start out hot, some start out slow. I’d say Petey’s hot start really inflated our play early. Even Bo cooled off as the season went on. Second half of the season seperates the men from the boys, contenders from the pretenders. You’ve watched hockey before right?
  13. I just think there were better top 6 options and he didn't fit into the bottom 6. Baer and Pearson are superior LW options. Eriksson and Leivo both can play the left side as well and in Leivo's case he had some success with both Bo and Petey. Boeser is for sure a better top 6 RW option. So he was fighting with Eriksson and Leivo, and to an extent Virtanen, for that last top 6 spot. And in terms of defense he is way out done by both Eriksson and Leivo. Not to mention Leivo is good on the forecheck and he battles. Brings something to that top 6 that few of our current top 6ers can. When healthy we had Baer and Pearson on the left, both better than Goldy. Eriksson and Boeser on the right. Both better than Goldy, in Eriksson's case it's close but I imagine that 6mil price tag keeps him around there longer. With all that said I am surprised he went with Spooner down the stretch there in place of Goldy. Every coach has that player in their doghouse that may not make sense. I am guessing Goldy played himself into that role and despite playing better lately it was too little too late. At the end of the day Green is human and generally when our minds are made up about things we stick to them tooth and nail. Goldy had all the time in the world to play better away from the puck early in the season. Didn't do it. Benning went and got Pearson and that was pretty much the end of Goldy since Pearson fits Green's more dump and chase style better.
  14. Jake hasn't been "given a longer leash". Jake can flat out do more. Goldy when he isn't passing the puck to Petey has 0 effect on the game. People b**** about Jake not being Tom Wilson or Todd Bertuzzi but at his worst he's decent defensively and occasionally throws a hit. At his best he provides some good depth scoring and causing problems around the opponents net. Which he has done at times this season. The fact Goldy is even on the team is a testament to the leeway he is being given. He's not in the lineup anymore cause we have better top 6 options and he literally brings nothing to the bottom 6 that gets the defensive deployments. Jake can play in the bottom 6 cause of his physicality and defensive game. It's not having a longer leash, it's about being able to do more. Nikolay Goldobin: 63 Games played, 7 goals, 20 assists, 27 points, -10, 14:59 TOI, 64.9% Offensive Zone starts Jake Virtanen: 69 Games played, 15 goals, 10 assists, 25 points, -4, 14:49 TOI, 45% Offensive Zone starts That's not even touching on the fact Jake has 152 hits to Goldy's 15. 46 takeways to Goldy's 20. 22 giveaways to Goldy's 33. Neither block a lot, but Jake has him beat there too. Jake wishes his leash was shorter if it meant he got elongated looks on a line with Petey or Horvat like Goldy got. When this team was beat up Jake's numbers looked a lot better. Coincidentally he was forced into a top 6 role at that time, but nobody seems to reference that.
  15. Bo and Pearson have chemistry? Only a matter of time before Green seperates them. It must frustrate Green that he can’t give Petey 3 wingers. Bo isn’t allowed to have nice things.
  16. Not the win I was hoping for but the boys played well. Demko getting more comfortable in net. Time to trade Luongo and give him the net.
  17. Ease off the passive agressiveness, Brendan. Could have just said they’re icing the same team that played Thursday. Dang. Lol.
  18. Sportsnet Pacific I believe. Not sure what channel that is for you.
  19. Win, our best 1st rounders have been drafted with odd numbers anyway Bo - 9th overall Boeser - 23rd overall Pettersson - 5th overall Hughes - 7th overall
  20. He's had 2, maybe 3, bad games that have largely effected his overall numbers but the other 5 to 6 games he's been stellar. That's pretty good for a rookie that's been dealing with injuries this season. He's faced 30+ shots in 6 of his 8 starts. Buffalo: 36 saves, 39 shots .923% Arizona: 19 saves, 24 shots .792% Edmonton: 31 saves, 34 shots .912% Vegas: 16 saves, 17 shots .941% Chicago: 29 saves, 31 shots .935% Columbus: 28 saves, 33 shots .848% Los Angeles: 37 saves, 39 shots .949%. San Jose: 33 saves, 35 shots .943% For a rookie goalie dealing with injuries while playing behind our porous defense (also dealing with injuries) I'd say that's pretty good if not lights out. The only real blemish is that Arizona game. Every other game he's facing a lot of rubber and/or playing a really tough team. And the European point has been touched on. Those players prefer to develop in their own leagues (Liiga, SHL whatever) or were long shot prospects anyway. People crying about Palmu need to realize he was a 5'7 20 year old when we drafted him in the 6th round. Hardly a prospect that had legit NHL chances. Juolevi would have graduated outta Utica this year very likely if not for another injury setback. Zhukenov was a 4th round longshot. Dahlen wanted out and for all we know he's got character issues (personally don't believe it to be the case but we flat out don't know) and other than that we had no real notable Euro players that had legit NHL chances. Gunnarsson was an overage 5th rounder. Jasek is in the A right now and looks pretty okay, he was a late round pick anyway so him fizzling isn't worth crying about anyway.
  21. Why do we NEED to see players develop through Utica? I mean, is it so wrong players are coming from the SHL, College, etc. straight to the NHL? Do we absolutely need players to come through Utica to prove whatever point you want proven? And even then, we've had a few players go from Utica to the NHL. One being Demko, Biega was a guy that came through Utica. Sautner and Brisebois look solid and very well could be depth pieces on the roster next season. Further back you have Jake Virtanen and Jacob Markstrom. This obsession with Utica developing players is getting a tad out of hand. Not to mention people keep moving the goal posts so those that do develop there don't count. "Well Virtanen and Markstrom don't count cause they only needed one season". Utica has provided prospects for the main roster. People just want to focus on the few that fizzle out. I know people are feeling like the sky is falling cause a bunch of rookies are struggling in the A this season but lets give em a couple seasons at least before we worry about Utica. Players of real quality don't normally go through the AHL anymore. This is the new NHL where kids are ready sooner and sooner and other leagues are catching up at developing NHL ready players.
