[Signing] Panthers re-sign Spencer Knight
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Extension, so it starts next season. Which means Bob's time is coming to a close? 15mil in goalies likely isn't sustainable. He'll have 3 years left when Knight's extension kicks in. Bob also has a NMC. This gonna be a "my contract sucks" situation? Which contending team will take a 35 year old goalie and can take a 10mil price tag? Even if they retained 2mil that's an insane price tag. Lol. -
[Report] Brock Boeser out 3-4 weeks
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Thankfully the season hasn't started yet. Even if he's out the full 4 weeks he'll be back pretty early in the season. Poor guy has had a rough year and a half, on top of all the Covid stuff. Perseverance being tested in a big way. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
JeremyCuddles replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If I had to guess term is the sticking point. If you're gonna lock up your captain I imagine it's easy to sign off on a NMC for most of it. And if you're Horvat and you're bad in the last few years of the deal not many will pick up a 7mil price tag for you. So a NTC is perfectly fine for him in that case. But I dunno, maybe I am just trying to be devil's advocate to argue with you. Lol. -
[Rumour] Canucks interested in Ethan Bear
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Bear averages less than 1 hit per game. Has a little over 1 block per game. And over his career has a 2 to 1 giveaway to takeaway ration. Meaning his gives the puck away twice for every takeaway he gets. Which isn't good, but I suppose it's not unusual. Edler and Hamhuis are notable two way guys that had more giveaways than takeaways. He isn't physical or two way enough to be a real target for me personally. I am First Nations, so from that standpoint it'd be cool. But from a team building standpoint he doesn't help the team much if at all. Maybe he can find magic with OEL though, but I'd keep him far away from Hughes. They'd be the smallest top pair in hockey is my guess. I dunno. I am pretty deadset on if we target a RD through trade or draft they need some Tanev or Parayko defensive pedigree. With that sort of size. 6'2-6'4 range. It'll cost an arm and a leg via trade but that's usually cause they're worth it. RD castoffs usually don't pan out because of how valued that position is. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
JeremyCuddles replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Looking at the LDs we like to target, rumors included, maybe the popular lad they're looking at moving is Hughes -
[Signing] Oilers re-sign Ryan McLeod
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Looks like he took less to play. Nobody was gonna offersheet or trade for him and they had his rights but no real cap. He took what they could offer, which was next to nothing. Lol. -
[Signing] Avalanche re-sign Nathan MacKinnon
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
This man talking about discounts to keep em competitive. Lol. Good times. If this is what MacKinnon is worth, Draisaitl must be worth 14m per. MacKinnon isn't even the best player on his team. That's Makar. -
[Signing] Islanders re-sign Cory Schneider
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Didn't realize he was so old already. 36, geez. I am old too. Lol. Sad how his career turned out. Had a lot of potential. His prime was great, just short. -
[Rumour] Canucks interested in Ethan Bear
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Sub 6', should be right up our alley. Damn shame he's right handed. Seems like we favor lefties. On the real though, I like Bear. But I dunno. He's an improvement on Juulsen, sort of, but doesn't bring anything we desperately need. Which is defensive prowess and some form of physicality. If they take some middling prospect for him or Dickinson/Pearson I'd be okay with it I suppose. But again, I feel like it doesn't change the team much if at all. Unless he has a massive breakout year. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign J.T. Miller
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I think Myers looked fine with OEL. The issue is the Hughes pair needs a lot of protecting cause of Schenn being there. And Hughes somewhat lacking defensive prowess. Last 4 seasons Severson has primarily played in defensive situations, largely outta necessity. He's looked okay in that role, I don't care about +/-. Guy can eat 20 minutes better than Schenn can, which means our top pair doesn't need to be as protected. Takes pressure off Myers and OEL who, again, I think are a fine combo. With all this said, I never even claimed to be in on Severson to begin with. I just found it laughable that anyone would think he'd command 7.5mil per. And I just used Myers as a comparable. Lol. Finding the perfect RHD is gonna take time and is gonna cost us one of Petey or Horvat. Maybe Pod depending on his development. Severson shouldn't cost much and I'd rather have him going forward than Myers. But in the meantime if we were to add Severson to Hughes, OEL and Myers we can be a playoff team til Myers expires and hopefully we found the heir apparent RHD we always dreamed of. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign J.T. Miller
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I am not as down on Myers as most, and Severson is a solid top 4. Like, we have OEL and Hughes who are legit top talents in my books. We don't need 4 top 2 d-men to be a good team. Especially when we have a forward group that I also really like. Mikheyev and Lazar are great two additions that should bolster our terrible PK. Pod, Petey, and Hogs are all a year older and a year better. Miller is locked up so that should hopefully take the edge off in that regard. Hopefully. Boeser's traumatic last season, while I don't wanna say he's fine but he's got less of a weight on his shoulders. I dunno. I just think our defense doesn't need a super star to be respectable when we have Hughes and OEL. Adding a Severson, moving Schenn to where he should be as a 6/7 guy instead of playing with Hughes. Severson as a legit top 4 guy also takes the pressure off Myers to be the ONLY top 4 RD. That's a pretty big shift right there with the forward additions we made. I also suffer from blind fan optimism. So, I won't lie and pretend I am not a bit of a homer. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign J.T. Miller
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Severson has slightly higher offensive upside. I think they don't need to compete with each other though given our massive RHD gap. But with the cap situation I guess we can only really carry one of them. It'd be nice to rid Poolman and Pearson if need be. Then when the Lu cap recapture, what's his name's bonus and Baer buyout are gone next summer we can run Hughes, OEL, Severson and Myers which is a more than suitable top 4. It's kinda sad that we had Tanev and let him go for nothing. I am still mad at myself for thinking we didn't need him. Lol. The odds of finding that fabled top 2 RHD is really, really hard to do without a top pick. Adding OEL to the Tanev, Myers, Hughes top 4 would be a playoff caliber top 4 in my books. Especially with the forward upgrades we made. What could have been. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
JeremyCuddles replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Go back and watch the season under Green. Miller was literally on the ice throwing hissy fits. Smashing sticks, slamming doors. So yeah, I am gonna call it how I see it. I love Miller as a player, not as a captain. People kill Bo and prop up Miller, but never once has Bo done anything to be slighted as our leader, let alone done the on ice hissy fits that Miller did early last season. Bo has been a respected professional literally from the moment he wore a Canuck jersey. He stayed calm cool and collected when everything was going wrong. He's loved by the young core, they call him Cap. I am tired of people giving Miller's attitude a pass and killing Bo for no reason. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign J.T. Miller
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Guy with one 40 point season under his belt is commanding more than 7.5mil per? His numbers are borderline Myers' numbers prior to signing here. Who is also a more physical player and a better shot blocker. Likely better defensively too. I like the idea of Severson with Hughes/OEL but he's not a 7.5mil d-man. Definitely not worth more than that. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
JeremyCuddles replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I love people that think Bo isn't captain material but Miller visibly crying and moping on the ice is captain material. Bo is somehow more disrespected than Hank. -
[Signing] Oilers sign Evander Kane
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If Vancouver did this we'd have to keep Kane's cap hit for the remainder of his terminated contract and forfeit a 1st round pick. Then they'd void the Miller extension and force him to be a UFA immediately. And for some reason Linden would have to join the Night's Watch. -
[Rumour] Rangers shopping Nils Lundkvist
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yeah? Everyone? Even if this is true. He gonna quarterback the 2nd unit for 30 seconds? Lol. We have Hughes, OEL and potentially Rathbone and Dermott that all can man the point on the powerplay. We need d-men that actually play defense. We gonna stroll out a powerplay of all 5'10 puck moving d-men? -
[PTO] Zach Senyshyn with Devils
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Boston really could have been Tampa Bay 2.0 if they didn't fumble the bag so hard that draft. Oh well, they found a way to be somewhat relevant inspite of arguably one of the worst 1st rounds I know of. -
[Signing] Senators sign Tyler Motte
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Guy likely got greedy here and now he's likely to become a journeyman. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But come on, settling down in Vancouver for 3-4 years is better than traveling to NY for 9 games, then to Ottawa and who knows where else next. Oh well. He was a warrior here. Wish him well. Just wish he would have taken a fair deal to stay here. Lazar and Motter on that 4th line, potentially with Lockwood, would have looked really good. -
[Signing] Blues re-sign Jordan Kyrou
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Lookin' more and more like I owe Miller an apology. Kyrou is good, but he's not better than Miller. Lol. -
That money wasn't yours anyway. Lol. And the team wasn't gonna compete regardless. The vets helped those kids develop and I'd say was worth Aquaman's money. Also, we didn't trade a first just to dump Beagle. I dunno if you noticed but we got a minute munching top 4 D-man, that again takes pressure off Hughes and a 20 goal scorer with an edge. So you're gonna have to do better job of spinning a story when I also know the entirety of it.
-
I don't see how adding Beagle and Myers via free agency killed our chances at adding draft picks. And I'd argue that adding those guys is more beneficial than unused cap space. Beagle and Myers allow our defensive liability kids to play in fewer defensive situations. Look at our PK last season with no Beagle. And imagine if we traded Tanev like people wanted, that PK would have been historically bad earlier. And it was historically bad last season. You want our kids getting torched right out the gate for more draft picks? Or would you rather have Beagles, Myers, Edler and Tanev taking that heat? We torch other teams for throwing their kids to the fire and potentially ruining their development. And that's what you wanted our team to do? Do we have the current Horvat if we threw him out there immediately in a top 6 role? How does Hughes, Petey, and Boeser look without the defensive cushion that Miller, Myers, OEL, and Horvat provide? With Beagle and Tanev before them. In hindsight, the traded picks for middling prospects cost us. But at the time all those trades looked decent. Vey for a 2nd looked solid, Baer for a 2nd was a coup until injuries robbed Baer of a career. The risks of trading for those guys is the same as the risk of using those picks and drafting your own bust.

They have Yamamoto coming up that season too. I doubt they'd try anything when they need every penny to keep himand Draisaitl who is up the season after. Gotta imagine he'll command 10-11m by then. But, the risk isn't worth the prize in this case. We have enough forwards as is, lets not rustles feathers for someone we don't need or even should want.
