Rumor: Virtanen to Oilers (PTO/1 year)
JeremyCuddles replied to BureBurrito's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I was one of Virtanen's biggest defenders. But letting him go was 100% the right play. Let the law do it's thing, let him enjoy Putin's hospitality for a bit, hopefully actually learn something about life and maybe, just maybe, mature. What happens to him from here on out is gonna depend on how much he has grown as a person. If at all. Funnily enough, amongst my defending Jake takes. While I was mad at the fact he was leashed to the bottom six. I said let him go play with McDavid and see how he does. Would be really funny to eat that crow if he were to fail with Edmonton after I talked all that smack about him not getting a fair shake here. Lol. I am still intrigued by him as a player. So I would like to see if he has any legit talent. Definitely one of the more interesting plot lines going into next season. -
[Rumour] Rangers shopping Nils Lundkvist

I agree that talent wise this makes sense. BUT, we already know that Hogs has dog in him. He's a gamer and that's enough that he can play despite not scoring. He was never a problem last season despite playing somewhat poorly offensively. Cause when he's on the ice he's battling and trying to make plays. I haven't seen enough of Lundkvist to even have him in the ball park of Hogs in terms of battling. He seems like right handed Dermott. Bad defensively, solid threat offensively. But his defensive metrics last season weren't god awful. But that could just be cause they had a monster goalie. It's tough. We have massive winger depth but I think Hogs has massive sleeper potential and with his tenacity I wouldn't gamble him for Lundkvist, without knowing what kind of player he really is when push comes to shove. -
It was on Tampa. One of the most stacked teams in the league. Did I predict he'd be a top 10 scorer? No, but I said he'd be a top 6 player here cause he'd get more looks. So yes, I was right. I was definitely more right than the crybabies calling him a 3rd liner as if there wasn't a gem underneath clear for anyone that wasn't thirsty for another 1st round pick.

Dermott is left handed. So not really a RD. Especially given he's pretty meh defensively, and that's putting it mildly. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
JeremyCuddles replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I don't think Bo is instrumental and removing him destroys the team. But he plays a key role that isn't easily replaceable. Unless we get a 3rd line center and a top 4 RD or at least potential top 4 RD in return. Miller is better than Bo in every way but faceoffs. But that's not a huge gap. Miller is 54% in the dot. The issue is removing Bo removes Miller from Petey's line and Petey hasn't fully proven he's a legit 1C. The only way I move Bo is for a massive haul. -

When you lay it out like that, yeah. Where does he even fit? Lol. Looks difficult to even fit Hogs into the lineup, especially with how he played last season. Nice to have some really solid forward depth. Especially seeing the solid two way guys sprinkled throughout. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

Even without Dickinson we're logjammed at center. Miller, Pettersson, and Horvat all should be commanding their own line. That leaves Lazar at 4th line center. Although Rodrigues would be nice if the idea is to keep Miller on Petey's line to babysit him. It's a shame Dickinson fell off so hard here. We seemingly have the worst 3rd line center luck since Manny left. Sutter became a broken man the second he became a Canuck, Gaudette was awful, Dickinson has been meh. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign J.T. Miller

Things are starting to cooldown on the JT Miller front. So now is as good a time as any to suggest we trade him. I mean come on, he took less than market value. He's worth at least 2 firsts, a top prospect and a stud RD. Am I right or am I right? -

The LD we been clamoring for. Love it. -
[Signing] Canadiens re-sign Kirby Dach

He probably wishes he got traded to Ottawa, worth at least 8x6.5m there. -
[Signing] Senators re-sign Tim Stutzle

20 years old, 58 points last season. Definitely seems like too much too soon. He's not gonna be worth this contract for the next 2-3 years. So why not just sign him to a 2-3 year bridge then 8 year him after? Lol. It's not like he's gonna be worth 10mil+ after 2-3 seasons. -

My boy Podz can run with anyone. I am thinking they might wanna stick em with Mikheyev for a little bit though. Being a fellow Russian and if we can get some of that defensive dog in Pod? Oh boy. He'll be an absolute unit for us. Also I really think Petey needs Miller to babysit him, and I'll say that til Petey proves to me otherwise. -

They weren't world beaters at 36/37 but the Sedins were 50 point players and they did it with cement skates. And I'd argue they endured more beatings than Miller ever will. So it's possible that he'll still be a useful player at 34+. Obviously we can't predict injuries, knock on wood, but that can literally happen to a 22 year old so it's not worth worrying about. -

But you also have to factor in Miller's contract. No disrespect to Bo, but he's not 500k cheaper than Miller. Miller is a point per game guy, he's better defensively, and has a bit more bite to his game. And I'd argue drives plays better than Bo can. I trust Bo as a leader more than Miller, but as a player Miller has him beat all around except maybe in the faceoff dot. Which is very close you may as well call it a wash. 8m was my ceiling for Miller, I put a 7m ceiling on Bo. Guy hit 60 points once in his career. Give em the Nylander deal and call it a day. -

Nobody on this team has a zero percent chance of being traded, if the right deal hits the table anyone can be moved. The question is whether or not management shops him. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign J.T. Miller

Honestly I do really like the Mikheyev and Lazar additions. Feels like at least we can expect to not bottom out on the PK. JT Miller may get the Fred Vanvleet daddy bump. Doesn't hurt to have a fat contract extension too. I say our odds are 48.69% better than last season at making the playoffs. I am pretty excited to see Podkolzin mostly. He has some Russian homies now. This could be a real exciting season for him. He looked great in his rookie campaign. I have him as a sleeper PK beast if Mikheyev rubs off on him. -

Curious how you came to that 50% increase. But not really. 60% of the time online stats are made up 100% of the time. -
[Signing] Senators re-sign Erik Brannstrom
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yeah the money was definitely not ideal. Although I honestly didn't mind Beags at his AAV or term, it's an overpayment for sure but I dunno. With hindsight and seeing how brutal our PK was last season I think I'd rather have him at 3mil if it means we don't have an all time terrible PK at points last season. Lol. -

I know I said this before about a many prospects. Both Canucks and not. But I try not to write someone's potential off too soon. He turned 23 a few days ago. Not old by any means. He can still become a special player. It'd help if they actually put a leadership type player on the blueline with him. The oldest quality blue liner they have is Chabot. So these kids gotta learn the sport almost by themselves. Love or hate Benning but I do appreciate the vets he brought in. The Beagles, even Gudbranson, and others. We don't want our kids just out there in the deep end without a guide. Cause it makes that learning curve more difficult. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign J.T. Miller
JeremyCuddles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Things are getting heated up in here. I was team trade Miller, so I get why many are kinda let down. But lets not pretend Miller hasn't been a beast for us. Point per game guy this first 2 seasons. So even if last season was an anomaly, a point per game is great production for 8m. Especially given he also plays with a Kesler-like edge. I also get the fear of his play dropping off. But life's a gamble baby. For the next 3-4 years this is a great deal. The next 3-4? Well, I doubt it'll be he-who-shall-not-be-named bad. So lets put down the pitch forks and try be excited for next season. Worrying about half a decade from now is bad for your health. -

Guy can play anywhere in the lineup just signed a league min deal in September? I dunno man. Sounds kinda meh to me.
