  1. Going all in is turning our blueline from 2 top 4 d-men to 3 top 4 d-men. Which is the sad part. But knowing ownership, they'd probably okay another OEL level trade if they were told it'd lead to playoffs. Even if it cost us another first rounder and decimated our cap going forward. Just the allure of playoff revenue is enough for ownership to okay moves that F over this team. 1st rounder, Pod/Hogs, and Myers/Beau/Garland for cap reasons and we can get a semi-decent D-man should one be on the market. That's pretty close to all in, given our cap constraints and lack of real tradeable assets. Or finding a true 2C is also something worth targeting if your goal is going all in. Garland/Beau for cap reasons, that 1st rounder and maybe Rathbone, Raty or Woo or the aforementioned Pod/Hogs depending on the other team's wants.
  2. Really? Good for him. Always felt he was good enough for a regular spot.
  3. Really dipped into their bags with these PTOs. We should PTO Jordan Schroeder and Brendan Gaunce.
  4. Even healthy we been icing AHL bluelines outside of Hughes. So, it's not really the same. Although I feel like the last few years we been pretty decent in the health department. But I also have the worst memory. So I dunno. I think a couple years back we got brutalized like CBJ did. But again, bad memory.
  5. CBJ iced like 30 d-men last year. They had good goaltending. But yeah, the injuries were brutal. If they can stay healthy and get more offence. They should be a playoff bubble team.
  6. I mean, it's weird you brought up Hughes as a comparable and say we can't use Matthews. Nobody thinks even 9mil is realistic for Petey unless he really, REALLY wants to leave money on the table. Petey will almost certainly settle closer to Matthews than J Hughes. Which is why Matthews is the comparable.
  7. If he wants to wait, it's cause he's unsure of how the coaching staff will do in action. Cause most of the pieces we picked up this summer are 1 year deals. They aren't future pieces and aren't indicative of where this team is going forward, so waiting a few months into the season to evaluate the team from a player standpoint doesn't really make sense. They are place holder pieces til we clear cap for longer term pieces or maybe even develop those pieces ourselves. Which would be nice to finally develop some players that aren't 1st round picks. A lot is riding on this coaching staff, and not just our playoff hopes. But the hope we can keep our star center.
  8. I mean, kind of. Paying Petey 12mil isn't a problem. You pay your stars. The issue for Toronto isn't that Matthews is getting paid. The problem is they have 3 of the top 10 paid players in the league right now, and they don't have Nylander extended yet. Who should get upwards of 8mil. Having one player make 12 mil won't tank your team. But being too wishy washy with money can and is a problem. Miller is at a good price tag, Hughes is as well for the next 4 seasons I believe. Demko is making peanuts, at least for what a healthy Demko can provide. Petey making 12mil isn't a problem. The problem is we have Beauvillier, Myers, Garland, and Boeser making more than they should while being redundant pieces to our roster. Two of those guys are gone next summer, when Petey's extension would kick in. And Garland should be more tradeable as well. Paying Petey isn't the issue, but if we can get him closer to 11mil, we should be pretty happy. 12mil is him getting every dollar he should. Which isn't bad, but doesn't help our cause.
  9. Not as strong as we think. He can just go to arbitration next summer and become a UFA the year after. He can still force his way out Dubois/Tkachuk style. Or use that threat as a means of asking for more.
  10. Well, with Matthews signing. Petey's number potentially went up. Yes Matthews was a pending UFA. But Petey isn't far off. He can go to arbitration next summer and become a UFA the year after. Matthews is not on Petey's two way level, and Petey also had as many goals and way more points this year. I think Petey can be a consistent 40 goal, 100 point guy with good two way play. 12mil for Petey isn't an unreal ask at this point.
  11. Their cap situation was already ass, now it's super ass. Lol.
  12. Was once a "draft steal" and now looks like he's just a serviceable bottom 6 guy. Guy hits a lot though, wtf. I am guessing he lost out on some money by stomping on people?
  13. I don't think people realize how good this man is defensively. He's not shutdown, but he's solid. Add 25-30 goals to that, and you get a 6.5mil player. Makes that Boeser deal look pretty bad, thankfully it's short.
  14. I am not in the camp that thinks Petey doesn't want to be here, not yet anyway. I feel like a lot of people are reading into his comments about winning a bit too heavily. But this does really reinforce my desires to have started a rebuild instead of continuing the retool. I get a lot of pushback on this, it's fine. Not like my opinion can change our course. But if we stayed selling, we could be in a 2-3 rebuild window then pushing to contend. We trade Horvat like we did. But instead, we don't trade for Hronek (whom we may not even be able to keep himself. If he goes to arbitration next year he can be a UFA), we also try to move Miller and maybe even Demko for picks/prospects. Now we are dead in the water with a decent shot at dropping instead of climbing. We won 10 of 12 games coming out of the deadline. Demko's health and obviously Miller being a horse were big reasons for that. But if they're gone, we maybe win half of those. That alone drops us back into the top 10. Maybe worse given a few of those games were really close. I don't see our offence being as strong without Miller and no Demko is easy Ls. The only arguments against rebuilding was Petey and Hughes wouldn't want to stay for a rebuild. But Petey we could trade for a haul and Hughes we have locked for 4 more seasons. And I mentioned 2-3 years of rebuilding before a playoff push. Last draft and this coming draft look really good. Between trading Miller, not trading for Hronek, and also trading Demko. That's a lot of picks in 2 good drafts. On top of trading Petey if he wanted out. We'd have a slew of prospects. We wouldn't have to buyout OEL. Meaning we can wait out a few more years of it before dumping it to some trashbag team looking to hit the floor. And we aren't on the hook for nearly a decade of dead cap. And we wait out a bunch of other bad contracts. So we rebuild our prospect pool on top of waiting out bad contracts giving us flexibility. Instead, we still have the chance of losing Petey. Cause as much as I like the moves towards making our PK not a joke. Just how good are we? We could just as easily suck this season. Not bottom 5 suck. But draft 10-15 suck. Which is the worst kind of suck I might add. If he's waiting to see how this season plays out, I don't think our playoff chances are so much better than last season that we are pretty much a lock. If we miss again, missed our window to sell, bought out OEL for no real gain, AND Petey still wants out and maybe even Hronek wants out Meaning that trade was just a waste. We delayed our rebuild during 2 drafts where we reasonably want to be top 5. And if things don't work out perfectly, the worst case scenario may still come to pass. Again, I am not saying Petey wants out. I think he'll sign long term. I just don't think we realistically have a cup contending window with the way we're going. Unless Willander, potentially Silovs, and Lekkerimaki all exceed their potential. TLDR unpopular opinion from dumb fan, paper bag, sad face, not a real fan etc, etc.
  15. This is a tree falls in the woods thing. Just cause YOU aren't hearing anything doesn't mean things aren't happening in the background. It's clear this group is working hard on keeping stuff under wraps. I am not gonna go full Sekeres and say management isn't doing anything just cause nothing is happening. It's still mid August. It's not like the regular season is just around the corner. As the kids say, let them cook.
  16. It's bad, but old white dudes love listening to old white dudes complain so they'll stay somewhat relevant. I can't imagine many millenials are listening to them.
  17. Can't wait to see what Detroit gets for Petry at the deadline. Might be able to get a pick, maybe even a prospect too.
  18. Detroit buying and selling. Interesting team to say the least. They needed a decent body after the Hronek trade. Holl wasn't it. Hell, neither is Petry but maybe by committee it works out. Lol.
  19. Smells awfully Chicago in here. They're trying to sweep it under the rug hoping people forget.
  20. Great, now we're gonna see 7 war charts about these guys to prove their height doesn't matter.
  21. Bold prediction. I dig it. I'd settle for a middle of the pack PK honestly. Given where it's been. But yeah, the additions look like they were targeted specifically for the PK.
  22. Miller, Mik, Blueger, Petey and Suter looks pretty solid. Cole, Soucy, Myers and Hronek. Ideally want Hughes used sparingly on the PK. I trust him, but don't like the idea of putting too much on his plate. I cook management, but honestly can't hate the additions. Just need to clear out the redundancies and we might just be dangerous.
  23. Some Detroit fans said he is an "elite PKer" and can play up and down the lineup but should be used in the bottom 6. If he's even above average defensively this might be a pretty big win for our PK, especially with Blueger signed. I'll have to consult the War charts though. Seems like our PK will be all of the guys we signed this summer. Which makes sense give how ass it's been the last few years.
