  1. I see your point and that's why I'm not personally comfortable voting Boeser right now. If I had to answer your question directly though then probably yes to both. Hlinka is a little closer but I'll take Boeser over Tallon all day and twice on Saturday. Hlinka does get some points for 82 no doubt, but that's kind of a function of the team he was on. Would Brock Boeser not have some decent playoff numbers if he played on the 82 team? Pretty sure he would and I doubt Hlinka would have gotten us in if he played in the past 3 seasons. (I borrowed Doc Browns' car to make this work) Good comparison though!
  2. I wouldn't feel right about voting Brock Boeser in this round but I'm pulling for those of you who are!
  3. Just woke up and read about this. Looks like the card is still happening though! I don't know how I am supposed to feel!! I want everyone to be safe and this whole card does have a bit of a shady feel to it. I miss sports though!! I just wanna watch someone compete!
  4. Yeah "the goalie graveyard" days haha. I was excited about Bob Essensa back in the day. It's what makes me afraid to lose Markstrom. I understand that it's a little easier to get goaltenders these days but I am traumatized by the dark era.
  5. Maybe I'm remembering wrong but wasn't Cloutier supposed to hold us over till Alex Auld was ready to go? I think Johan Hedberg came with a bit of hype as well lol
  6. He's right there with McCarthy for me. Really easy to convince me to vote for Lanz haha
  7. I did not personally agree with you but I'm very glad that you brought so much passion! That's exactly what is making this whole list fun for me. Showing how much we love all the players from across the years has been great. I've had some time to sit back and think about some of my own reactions in conversations. I am realizing that my support of both the current roster and the 2011 team are connected. After 2011 there were people everywhere saying that the Canucks would never do anything no matter what. I heard people straight up saying that they'd never watch hockey again. Essentially a lot of the amazing memories that we had built up were now being trashed. Those sentiments remained for years. While people weren't as loud about it, I still didn't feel "safe" bringing up the Canucks at the lunch table at work. Those same "I'm never watching the Canucks again after 2011" people always come out of nowhere when you do. All of that started to change over the course of the last year or 2. I started seeing Canucks hats at work. I started to hear people asking things like "did you hear what Pettersson did last night?" People were coming up to me over the last year saying "hey we're gonna get in this year aren't we?" So this modern core for me represents the kind of hope that we as a city have not felt since probably 2001 I would say. They represent a future where I can enjoy talking about the team at work and cheer for them to win! (rather than tank lol) Okay thanks for letting me rant about my self discovery lol.
  8. Vote Lanz Nominate Marky (kinda have to now)
  9. That's a great description. In the 2011 run Luongo held the opposition to 2 or fewer goals 14 times to McLeans' 8 in 1994. HOWEVER Luongo also got shelled for 5+ goals 4 times to only 2 for McLean.
  10. Vote McCarthy Strategically nominate Sandlak lol
  11. Yeah Gino is definitely getting the votes because of the phrasing of the question. "Legendary" That's Gino all day! When they retired Bures number I remember Gino getting an awesome reaction from the crowd. If the question was "best" fighter then my vote would go to Brashear easily. As others have mentioned, Brashear was not always the most exciting. Lennox Lewis (boxing) and Georges St. Pierre (MMA) were not known for being "exciting" either. It is well known in combat sports that the wildest fighters are not always the 'best' fighters. That's my reasoning anyway!
  12. Guys you need to read at least some of the thread haha! Cheers though! We all love Ripper!
  13. Imagine if we had made the Bertuzzi for Luongo trade at the 04 deadline... Maybe I shouldn't do that to myself LOL
  14. That's fair! Marky also gets hung out to dry though. We were quite well known for giving up a ton of shots this year. I think I'd take the defense in front of Cloutier over the defense in front of Marky. That's a good point though. We weren't exactly New Jersey locking it down in front of poor Danny!
  15. I'll throw in my two cents. I haven't seen (though maybe I missed it) anyone mention the quality of teams in front of both of these guys. Dan Cloutier had one hell of a team that he was playing on. Marky has been doing his thing on a rebuilding team. Picture the 02, 03 and 04 seasons with the last 3 years of Marky. Do you think the Canucks would have done better worse or the same? Personally I think they'd have done better.
  16. I didn't want to be the first one to say it but yeah... Dan Cloutier. I'm remembering how I felt with him in net lol. I hope Marky gets considered too! Vote Smith Nominate Boldirev!
  17. Rick Rypien has been left off the list out of respect. I agree with this move. No need to get in to debates about whether he was or was not better than whoever. I think everyone agrees that Ripper has a very special place in the hearts of Canuck fans. You could call Gino Odjick the winner of the Rick Rypien Award
  18. Putting Linden with the twins is a gangster move! Love it! The big right hand shot with speed that they always wanted. Can step in and win faceoffs and is awesome defensively so they basically always have the puck. Didn't they play together on the PP for a bit when Linden was older? I seem to remember them being good together even with an older version of Linden.
  19. Looks like a solid win for Ververgaert. I play a little game with myself sometimes where I make cross-era lines or teams. In my little daydream I often put Ververgaert with the Sedins!
  20. Yeah Brashear was a beast. He wasn't always the most exciting but probably the best. He even had an MMA fight and he smoked some poor guy in like 20 seconds or something like that. Biestra phrased it "Legendary" though! That's gotta be Gino! I can still hear the chants in my head.
  21. I voted Odjick! If we're doing nominations then I guess I'll throw Jovo in there! He didn't fight often but when he did holy haymaker batman! Deadmarsh fights obviously come to mind. (as a side note Brashear would almost FOR SURE win a fighting tournament between all of these guys. That's not how I would vote however)
  22. I just watched both of the Detroit/Pittsburgh series from the finals. Insanely high level stuff.
