  1. Yeah I agree. 2011 was a great ride and some of my favorite memories of not only the team but the city as well. The Sedins were both tough as nails. They took a beating in the corners and in front of the net and yet they just kept chugging along like a machine. I didn't realize that people were slamming Horvat for not being physical. That's absolutely ridiculous lol. And I mean "lol" literally. I really did laugh when I read about people slamming Bo. The guy is an absolute bulldog. I'm still so happy that he's our captain!
  2. I didn't think it was a shot at our current team. I thought it was a shot at the 2011 team. Many people thought they "choked" in the finals. I do not agree but honestly I haven't watched Game 7 since that day nine years ago. In a million years I doubt anyone would describe Bo Horvat as "playing on the periphery" so it can't be the current team haha
  3. Yep every team has some of that. That's not how or why the Pens won though. Look at the Canucks 2011 roster. Everyone complained how they got pushed around but we had some snarly players on that roster. You can win a cup by rolling over people with too much skill. Just doesn't happen to my team lol
  4. I think we're a bit scarred in Vancouver too! It would be nice if we didn't have to "go to war" Why can't we have a team that just blows everyone out of the water cause they're just too good lol. I'm thinking of teams like the Penguins in their back to back wins, Haha I can dream!
  5. Haha I've gotten in to this sooo many times! Usually the debate is around goaltending when I get in to it. I have always maintained that the greatest goalie in history is Dom Hasek. Reason being that during that span of time where he was on top he was THE absolute BEST. He won the most Vezinas in history (I think) despite not having the great teams and longevity of Brodeur. I also have a higher opinion of Pavel Bure than a lot of other people do for that reason. Yeah he didn't have the longest career because of his knees and that but WOW that pocket of time that he was here!
  6. Yeah the guy was incredible for us. I cannot debate that. My point is that ALL players have their warts but they can slowly get forgotten over time. It can make older players seem better than newer ones. Then the flip side is that recent players are fresh in our minds. I think that's what we see with the nomination of Kevin Bieksa. I wonder if Bieksa would still have been nominated as soon if he hadn't been on TV as much and had his podcast.
  7. I'm actually really looking forward to getting in to the later stages of this list. I think there will be some fun discussions about blasts from the past that people forget about.
  8. So again this is probably related to my age. The 1992-1993 season are my earliest hockey memories. The 1994 season are vivid memories that stayed fresh because of all the recorded footage that my family has. Now I feel that I have to defend myself a little bit! I am a huge nerd so I've watched a lot of old games from the 70's and 80's as well. That's why I've voted for so many of them. So with that in mind consider that most of my memories of McLean are 94 (which everyone remembers) and then the few seasons after that where he (like most of the team) became pretty frustrating to watch. ALSO remember that at that time is when the careers of Pat Roy, Dominick Hasek and Marty Brodeur were exploding. So that's what I had to compare Kirk with lol.
  9. See I'm somewhere in the middle. (Maybe that shows my age) I think both recency bias and romanticism about the past are issues. For example I really want to see Jovo get in but I remember all too well the adventure he could be in our own zone. Or Kirk McLean! I loved me some Captain Kirk but I also remember beating my head against the wall at times when watching him. Then of course there's the youngsters that you're talking about. You know the ones. The guys nominating freaking TANEV!!! (haha sorry guys I'm fired up about that one)
  10. No mention of Garth Butcher by anyone that I've seen. Interesting! I thought he'd have at least one person going to bat for him. I also find it interesting how many Tanev nominations are coming in. I love Tanev but he's still at least several guys down the list for me.
  11. I think that technology is such that they CAN make okay ice surfaces, particularly if they aren't allowing fans in to the arena at first. I mean they played the 2004 finals in Florida in June lol. It would just screw up next year too much to be worth playing in the summer I think. Maybe they can give us another one of those NHL World Cup things as a consolation.
  12. Oh is that what's going on? In that case nah! If I'm going to put myself through 94 game 7 then I want to do it right! Back to Youtube it is!
  13. I haven't watched Game 7 of 94 since I saw it live... I might do it! Good chance that I'll regret it lol
  14. Vote Snepsts Nominate Ed Jovanovski!
  15. What do you think now guys? Would any of you change your votes?
  16. This was almost my line as well haha. Except I was even a little more psycho than you and I was gonna have Ehrhoff rather than Hamhuis! I decided against it because I thought someone would tell me they'd be pushed around.
  17. JT Miller (1) Linden (4) Bure (6) Hughes (6) Hamhuis (2) R. Miller (2) I think this line-up is designed for the playoffs. A fast but physical line-up that is great defensively. Linden and Miller are face-off machines too!
  18. I like that Tanti is getting some votes! That poor guy was basically like our only offense for a couple of years there haha. Kinda like the Sedins were at times.
  19. I don't understand how you could have Sturm over Brandon Reid but to each their own I guess... LOL!
  20. Yeah I'm okay with Kesler getting this one. I literally typed out "I vote Ryan Kesler" but I changed my mind to Harold before I hit submit. Lidster is also great! I partially went with Jovo due to his personality and not just the on ice player. Based on longevity alone Lidster should probably be on the list but thinking of Jovo gives me the warm fuzzies lol.
  21. I'll vote for Harold Snepsts. I was very close to voting Kesler and then I remembered the "Haaarooold!" chants. Nominate Ed Jovanovski! Come on Jovocop!
  22. I remember being afraid to play against Hasek that year at the Olympics. I am also still bitter about that Buffalo Dallas final! They should pull everyone out of retirement and finish that series properly! Stupid Brett Hull... haha
  23. Noah Hanifin with 1800 games played. The most in NHL history haha
  24. Yeah I am also a Buffalo Sabres fan so I'm pretty familiar with Pecas time there. He was awesome! Even late in his career Peca went on that cup run with Edmonton in 2006. He was still pretty solid during that run. Kovalev is a good comparison for how I feel about Mogilny.
