You gotta hand it to LA, they are one hell of a great team, and they don't win by playing dirty or taking runs at the goalie. They battled their way back from deficits right through, taking out all these tough teams like The Sharks, Ducks, Chicago. The way they keep coming back shows a lot of character. They totally deserved it and they have my respect and admiration. Some say they had an easy run the last time they won the cup. That certainly wasn't the case this time. This will surely silence the doubters. They are the real deal, no question.

Retribution's a bitch eh? I am so loving this. NYR are getting exactly what they deserve. Hopefully it continues and they get swept in 4. Losing in the SCF instead of earlier will make the loss all the more bitter and devastating. This is what they deserve for running Price against MTL. I don't believe for one second that it was an accident. It was a calculated dirty play for the sole purpose of removing Montreal's best player and giving themselves an advantage. Its nice when there's a little justice in the world once in a while.

[Confirmed] Jim Benning signs as new Canucks GM
amitriptyline replied to TheRussianRocket.'s topic in Canucks Talk
Imagine if the Canadiens had Luongo in net instead of Price in this series? It would be Boston advancing instead LOL. What a difference it makes having an elite goalie who can play his A game consistently when it matters the most. -
Anyone know how much he had to be paid to buy out his contract? Was there some sort of clause in the contract whereby he wouldn't have to be paid the full amount of his contract if the Canucks wanted to buy it out because they weren't satisfied with his services?

A firing that was entirely justified. I feel hopeful that we can start making some progress again as an organization now that we don't have Gillis crippling it anymore with his incompetence.

Describe the Canucks performance so far with a movie title

The Long Road Back To Contention -
I'm so glad he is gone. It was unequivocally the right decision. 4 consecutive years of doing absolutely zilch to upgrade the team is completely unacceptable, especially when there are such glaring deficiencies that need to be addressed. The roster has grown so stale under him. There is no excuse for such gross negligence. His chronic pattern of idling and his lack of foresight and managerial competence have taken their toll and resulted in the predicament we are in today. This is why we are so mired in mediocrity and unable to compete for the cup. Its been a steady deterioration since the cup run. Such a fate was ineluctable the way Gillis has gone about his business, when there were so many problems with the team. I'm sick to death of waiting anxiously until the deadline only to find out he's either standing pat or just picked another nobody depth player. Then its the same standard replies like the asking price was too high or nobody was available that fit our long term plans...etc. There's no way this team is going to get back to being competitive with a guy like that. We need someone who takes a much more proactive approach and recognizes the importance of continually building the team and acts accordingly when there are issues to be resolved.

[PGT] OFFICIALLY ELIMINATED FROM THE PLAYOFF RACE
amitriptyline replied to Del Rio's topic in Canucks Talk
The Rangers clinch the day the Canucks get eliminated. How about that. -
The Canucks discovered a secret passage way, leading to an antechamber beneath the rock bottom level, deep down in the bowels of the earth.
-
So its only the season ticket holders that this is addressed to? What about the rest of the Canucks fans who are not STH's?
-
The Canucks are taking rock bottom to another level. The sub-level rock bottom.

Gillis had opportunities to move Luongo while we still had Schneider, and should have jumped on it, but of course with his endless patience and stubborn refusal to do anything, he held off and made the Canucks a laughing stock with all that controversy drama. Schneider should be the # 1 right now, and Lack the back-up.

(Rumour) torts almost removed updated botch
amitriptyline replied to DrChill's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Clearly it is not working out with Torts as coach. I hope he does get replaced by next season, or sooner. His style does not suit the Canucks. They are having way too much trouble with it, and it has killed the offense. I never liked the idea of using the Sedins for PK-ing either, or playing the top players with so many minutes. And he hasn't been able to push the players and get more out of them either, like many of us thought he would be able to do. This season has been a disaster of epic proportions. The team needs a new coach and a new GM. Gillis' time is over too. -
All I can say is the canucks deserve to be in the position they are in right now, for their sloppy play and their complete failure to maintain any consistency. The whole team flat out sucks, from top to bottom, from the top line right down to Luongo. Pathetic losers. They deserve to sink right down to the bottom of the league and wallow in their own excrement.

How typical, he makes it sound like the struggles/ poor performance of the team lately is entirely due to adverse circumstances - coach suspension, injuries. Of course it has nothing to do with how weak the actual roster is and how he hasn't done squat to improve the team in 4 years.
-
I'm totally fed up with those &$%# Sedins, I want them off the team. Its all over for them. I'm not saying this because of the struggles they're having right now, I was disappointed to see them resigned, especially at 7 mil a piece. What a stupid move, Once again Gillis failed to see the writing on the wall.
-
This team is truly pathetic. Its like everyone has just given up. No fight left in any of them. Resilience my ass. This is a time when players need to step up and try to get a spark going. You never see that on this team.

Patience everyone. It's a process.

Gillis silent while Canucks need him most (Bold moves my ass)
amitriptyline replied to Jamaicanice's topic in Canucks Talk
Gillis is employing his favorite managerial tactic again this year - doing nothing. Just a little of the obligatory tire kicking to give the appearance of doing something, and concealing his true intentions. He is the expert on doing nothing, no GM can beat him at that. -

Great game by Daniel tonight. No goals in 13 games, but he made a shot this time. You can see he's working hard to get back on track.
