  1. Imo, you're exactly right. People champion how fighting and old time hockey has been removed from the game (from the moral high ground) yet it's as prevalent as ever.
  2. Well, Torts recently said this about how the players have changed ... “Conversations on the ice amongst opponents on a faceoff, it’s like a big hugfest sometimes. I don’t know if they have so many meetings with this NHLPA and all that stuff that goes on but there’s no hate and I miss that. Frustrates the s–t out of me, quite honestly.”
  3. It's the same debate every time this happens. The reality is, though, this continues to happen. No matter how much high road people take morally, idealistically, this continues to happen ... TO US! There's a trail of evidence ... Boeser, Pettersson, and Hughes have all been on the receiving end of reckless and cheap hits/stickwork. Old time hockey isn't the answer. Payback/retribution isn't the answer. They can't be in today's game. And as an organization, we've already had the worst case scenario play out in terms of payback/retribution with the Bertuzzi incident. That simply can't happen again. You can certainly instill a culture of pushback and physicality as a deterrent so opposing players know there's a price to pay for dirty play. There are limits to what we can do on the ice. The real solutions, imo, rest with the league and organization. Also the media. The league needs to impliment harsher, more severe and consistent punishment. Two or three game suspensions aren't enough of a deterrent. It's obvious the league isn't serious about eliminating this stuff from the game or protecting stars. The organization, at some point, needs to have the stones to take a stand and put pressure on the league. The cheap shots to Boeser, Pettersson, and Hughes could have been much, much worse. Imagine if we lost all three to cheap/dirty plays in one year. If they were my investments for the future of the team, I'd be losing my $@!# calling for change. At some point you have to say enough is enough. And then there's the media ... for all of the sensationalist nonsense they spew and enable, this is a golden opportunity to use their nationwide visibility for the good to affect change. At least Tim & Sid got it right in their segment in the OP. Hopefully they keep the issue in the spotlight. And there are enough former players in the media who should be using the power of their platforms to call for change. By no means do I think there are easy answers but I do believe there are solutions. Right now we're still stuck in a place where you can't make people do what they don't want to do. I just don't see the will to change or find the right solutions.
  4. I do like the idea from a proximity perspective being that close. But the people of Utica really support the Comets. Our prospects are really lucky to experience such passionate fans. There's a certain rewarding spark and relationship between the Comets, fans, and community. You don't get that type of support everywhere. Also, from a community standpoint, Utica needs the Comets much more than Abbotsford. I'd hate to see the Comets relocate only to see the place half empty most nights. Abbotsford and the arena will be fine. It would be a harder blow to Utica if the team left.
  5. Petey just rifled one into the net. 2nd of game. Going back and forth. Sens just got it back.
  6. I like the radio broadcast with the visuals of this stream. Completely different vibe.
