I haven’t watched a game at Mullett arena yet. Looking forward to it. Yeah it’s embarrassingly small for a pro sports team but I hear it has a fun atmosphere. -
Those cap savings for the next two years are MIGHTY tempting. To me it all hinges on whether he has simply declined to the point where what we saw earlier this year is the new normal for him. If that's the case, I think a buyout makes sense. He was doing nothing but hurting the team. If he was really injured and could come back fully healed and play more like last season, then he's still not nearly worth his contract but he is a useful player, and could really benefit from the team's much stronger defensive structure where he doesn't have to react to multiple major defensive breakdowns every game. His foot speed just wasn't there this year to deal with breakdowns like that.

Which teams downfall in the playoffs will you enjoy most?
Strawbone replied to DeNiro's topic in General Hockey Discussion
I don't want Tampa (enough already!) or Boston (grrrrrr) to win it. I'd be happy to see the Oilers win the cup. It's been too long since a Canadian team won it, and honestly the hockey world would be better off if we all got to watch McDavid and Draisaitl go on a long playoff run. I'll never be an Oilers fan but I'll admit that duo is electrifying to watch. -
More like cap heck. I think they'll be OK. Alvin seemed pretty upbeat in his last presser when he was asked about cap space for next season, indicating they had options in place for this off-season. I think this management group might just be a competent bunch.

For me at least, it's necessary to be optimistic or I just don't enjoy watching the team play, and then what's even the point lol? I watch hockey to provide a pleasant distraction from the stresses of daily life. If the team looks like they're really headed in the wrong direction (and I don't think they are at this point) then I do take a break and don't watch nearly as much. Keeps me sane. -

I don't think it's the same at all. Boudreau got the players feeling good about themselves and playing inspired hockey, but it never felt sustainable. They were running on fumes towards the end of the year and the success obviously didn't carry over. The Canucks under Tocchet didn't get this instant bump. They're not playing super inspired hockey, rather they are putting in a solid workmanlike effort most nights. It's been a relatively slow process in getting the team to play a smarter and better defensive game, and to me it looks sustainable. They are getting better in every defensive aspect, and that's what wins championships. Time will tell of course, but I'm optimistic. Don't forget that we still have Hronek coming in, as well as Mikheyev, and I don't think the team is done making moves before next season. I just don't see Tocchet allowing the team to get off to the same kind of awful start next year that they did this year. They are not going to blow multiple multi-goal leads under his watch. Next year is going to be good. And if I'm wrong, you may mercilessly mock me for buying in to the hype! -

I don't care what he's getting paid, I don't see how you put OEL back in the lineup at this point. Unless he had a nagging injury all season, and can come back much stronger. I really hope he does. But if he comes back looking like the player he was earlier this year, then I think (as much as it hurts) a buyout makes sense, because it hurts the team more to have $7m a year tied up for a player that can't play. -
But the very best puck battle guys in the league are between 52-57%. Same with faceoff guys, if you can get anywhere close to 60%, that's amazing. These things are way too chaotic and unpredictable to say something like, if all else is equal, Boeser will win 10/10 board battles against Garland. Also, go Canucks go! I can't deny a 5 game winning streak would feel good. I'm not looking at the standings at all, and the draft picks will fall where they may.

All else is never equal. This is a pretty silly hypothetical!

If Garland is 5'10" then I am 8 feet tall.

A lot of good fortune is something that I think gets overlooked. Some really, really good teams don't win the Stanley Cup every single year. I mean, the Bruins have done everything right and have created a monster of a team, but if they get unlucky with injuries or go on a cold streak at the wrong time or run in to an insanely good goaltender they might not win the cup this year. Here's hoping!

They just need to eat more mushrooms before the game.

[Signing] Canucks sign Aidan McDonough to two year contract

Watched his introduction. He seems like a smart and thoughtful guy. There's certainly precedent for bigger players who are not fleet of foot to use their hockey IQ to be successful in the NHL. -

While on it's surface it seems ridiculous, I could see a day where Petey at his peak leads the Canucks to the Stanley Cup, while McDavid never does. At that point I would listen to arguments that Petey is a better overall player if the end goal is winning a championship. A fellow can dream -

I think you got your footage mixed up. That's Boeser at practice today. -

Oh I did not know we drafted him. I was under the impression he was a free agent and could sign with any team, and chose the Canucks. Clearly I don’t keep up with how this all works!
