  1. This GDT has taken a weird early turn! I think we’re probably due for a loss. Our shiny new D-man won’t be playing for a bit it sounds like, and this roster is just not good enough at the moment to win many games. But then again, we have Petey, Hughes, and Kuzmenko so it seems we always have a chance.
  2. To be fair, we didn’t actually trade away our best pick this year, and if we hit on that, we could be a sneaky good team in a couple years.
  3. I've spent the day mulling this one over and read most of this thread. Man do we have a passionate fanbase, and I loved reading every bit of it. 114 pages is a bit ridiculous though. And some of y'all are crazy. My take-away is that we got a good top pairing RHD, and that means we have two really good defencemen now, and not just one. That doubles the number of really good defencemen we have. I did the math, and it checked out. I think that makes a significant difference to this team's prospects over the coming years. They will add another good top-4 D I'm sure before next season. That mostly resolves the Canucks defensive issues, in combination with a less leaky system under Tocchet. Maybe not the best in the league, but maybe top 12? I dunno, I'm a little drunk after a stressful day, but I think I'm in the ballpark. And given the team's elite scoring, the likelihood of getting a really good player with our 1st round pick that we still have this year, and a possible (probable?) return to form of Thatcher Demko, I'm actually excited to see what this team can do in the next 2-3 years.
  4. Just as a point of reference, I told my wife about the Luke Schenn trade and due date being in a couple of days and what she thought about him having to go play for a team in Ontario, and she asked if it was their first child. I said no, it's their third, and she shrugged and said it's not such a big deal then lol. Her perspective is that as long as Luke gets time to be there for the birth and a bit of time afterwards (assuming everything goes well), and as long as his wife has support at home, which I'm sure she does, she would be more than happy to have me leave town for work afterwards if I was earning as much money as Luke is.
  5. I guess you can't trust random Mikes.
  6. OEL retirement announcement?
  7. I really thought they might let him stay in Vancouver until Saturday when the leafs are in town.
  8. Boy I sure hope so, but does anyone really want Boeser at his current salary? He just seems to have lost a step and I don't see any signs of him getting back to his old form.
  9. The thing is, we iced half of an NHL roster and a goalie that hasn't played in 3 months. What more do people want? The boys played hard and won a game they probably didn't deserve to, that's going to happen sometimes. I loved the effort and was super happy to see Demko get a win. We need a confident Demko going forward. If they keep icing this kind of lineup we're going to see a bunch more losses, and I'm not worried at all about the final draft position. It's going to be top-10, and we have a shot at a great player. We're not going to pick top-3, which is where most people see the "guaranteed" franchise players. Beyond that, I think anyone drafted top 10 could be a real impact player, and there will also be a few busts in there. Let's trust our scouts and enjoy the few wins we get down the stretch here!
  10. Well, Demko doesn’t look broken! I think this one game alone is enough to possibly push a trade over the edge. I don’t think it’ll happen but for the right return… you never know.
  11. Our high end talent means that even with half an NHL roster we can still win games. I’m honestly excited for the next couple of seasoz under Tocchet. We’re going to get better every season from here on out until we win a cup!
  12. One thing is for sure, there’s a ton of us out there, for better or for worse, who really care about this team. What the Canucks do really matters to me, and to at least a small extent my happiness or frustration level hinges on it. I’ve tried not watching or reading about the Canucks at various times in my life but it’s never for long. I will love this team until the end!
