  1. Where do we go to find out news about the combine? All I am finding is on here or HFboards.
  2. Perhaps the video guy wanted to look at his speed and skill. A quick look at his hit totals will tell you he hits. You then fling off your disguise of trying to be reasonable and immediately blade the guy as a 'soft euro' and 'perimeter player' . Because the video guy never included a hit? Not very convincing argument but hey, at least you convinced us of your utter bias. Did it go as well as you hoped?
  3. I appreciate your opinion but I disagree on several fronts. The team has been in decline before Torts got here . The team won 1 playoff game the previous 2 years. Our depth was for chit. The twins are not star players. They arent even 80 point players anymore. They werent 80 point players in 2013 and even worse in 2014. They will rebound up to where they should be . 70 point players. Our depth is still for chit. If we have secondary scoring from Kesler we certainly dont have it from the 3rd and 4th lines. Our defense is solid but our goaltending is not. We got 2 kids whom have never played a playoff game before. I dont see what your endgame is. What is the point of chugging along . We are competing against Colorado and Minnesota whom both are going to get stronger for the 2 wildcards. What is the point of this? To draft 18th ? 15th? What about next year? The year after that? What is the endgame? Teams are either building a contender, or contending or rebuilding. Our time has passed to honestly compete for the cup with this core. Lets take our medicine and rebuild. We only have 2 more years after this.
  4. I saw that too. Its not correct. They didnt interview them today. They plan to interview them tomorrow or Friday. Today they interviewed the ones you mentioned. Its a 4 day long interview. Edit; It was from yesterday. They ignored Ritchie Ehlers and Nyander to concentrate on Virtanen and especially Fleury. Dont know who they interviewed today but its extremely hard to believe they wont interview Ehlers and Ritchie . Even if they dont want Nylander they might want to spend 10min with him just in case.
  5. Fastest with the puck . Straight in line chasing an icing is Virtanen.
  6. He has the same feisty approach but I disagree that they look similar. Ehlers looks far more like Patrick Kane int terms of his style. I dont think you were attacking him.
  7. I am not sold on Draisaitl. I worry he has the biggest bust potential because of his lack of foot speed.
  8. Agreed. Lets go to the mods and demand our fellow posters frame the conversation this way only.
  9. I definitely dont. Ehlers had 49 goals and 104 points. Ritchie had 74 points. There is a wide gap in the talent between them. No team in the top 5 has said anything about passing up others to take Ritchie. Put up the source. Skill guys are rare. Ehlers kind of skill is extremely rare. Its willful denial to try to suggest otherwise. Ehlers is faster and put up better numbers than Hodgson did. Using him as a comparison downgrades Ehlers. I appreciate your love for Ritchie because I like the package he brings. Please dont be like these other clowns and find it necessary to make up horse crap and use hyperbole to make your case. State your case for Ritchie without having to put Ehlers or the other candidates down. When you have to put other candidates down to make yours look better, it suggests you arent very confident in your own prospect.
  10. Because its the only real way they think they can attack him as a prospect. So they 'frame' all their arguments around it. Check out my post above this one.
  11. Here are Ehlers most updated stats Ehlers is 5ft11 3/4 and 176 pounds. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikolaj_Ehlers There were few comparables who busted . Filatov Burmistrov Cherpanov The first are Russian and never played juniors here. Whatever the scouts saw in them must have been on good faith because there was no way to compare it to our juniors. They seem to have an easier time adjusting when they come from the SEL. Here are the others: Jackub Voracek. He went the same route as Ehlers has now. He is listed as 6ft 1 and 188 pounds when drafted. http://www.mynhldraft.com/2007-NHL-Mock-Draft Nick Backstrom was listed as 6ft 180 when drafted so is virtually identical http://www.mynhldraft.com/2006 Frolik was from the same draft as Backstrom and he was listed as 6ft1 and 187 again, an inch taller and 11 pounds heavier but still in the range. Mikkel Boedker is also from Denmark and was listed as 5ft 11 but an eye popping 200 lbs so even though he is an inch shorter his stockiness would put him in another class. Oliver EkmanLarsson was drafted in 2009 at a modest 6ft and 165 pounds. MPS was drafted by the Oilers 10th in the same draft. He was only 6ft1 and 187 then. An inch taller and a little heavier. http://www.mynhldraft.com/2009/round1 Mikkel Grandlund was listed at 5ft 10 and 180 pounds. Two inches shorter but we should include him. He just put up 41 points in 63 games. http://www.mynhldraft.com/2010/round1 Mikeal Zibanejad was listed as 6ft 1 and 183. Inch taller and a few pounds more http://www.mynhldraft.com/2011/round1 Yakupov is only 5ft 11 and 188 pounds but he played a year in the CHL . He might be sucking right now but he still a high end talent. http://www.mynhldraft.com/2012-NHL-draft-results/round-1 Elias Lindholm is also 6ft but he is 190 so we are getting too stocky to be included. So to sum up : Three busts - Burmistrov, Filatov Cherpanov ........all Russians who played in Russia for the junior careers. The rest Vorack, Backstrom, Boedekker OEL Granlund, Zibanejad, Yakupov Its up to you to decide if these are 'busts' or not. This of course is based soley on their size and their draft position. Not their talent. Note; Erik Karlsson was 5ft 11 and 155 pounds when he was drafted, but he didnt go until 15th. I would suspect his size was the reasoning.
  12. He doesnt have the shot that Bure had. Ehlers had 49 goals mind you . Hes not chopped liver. To be fair I dont think Ehlers is as fast as Bure but he is almost as fast, and the way he zips up the ice cutting across any angle he chooses is Bure like.
  13. Hagelin is notr as fast nor as skilled. He was a 6th round draft pick. No matter how much one hates Ehlers as a prospect, he will never fall below 13th overall. Hes almost exactly the same size though. 5ft 11 176 pounds although Ehlers is going to top out at 6ft and about 185 -190 when he is Hagelins age (26) . What I find in common about them is how feisty Hagelin is. That boy is not afraid of dry @#$. He goes to the dirty areas, crashes the net. If Ehlers can match his intensity, Canuck nation will be very pleased. His skill set is a tweener. Light second liner good energy guy. He definitely is a fan favorite of the Rangers. Could put up 20 goals and 45 points if he gets into a good situation and more PP time.
  14. I am also liking Shawn Mattias. Given more icetime, he could become a 15 goal 30 point guy who also crashes and bangs. 6ft 4 and 232 pounds I do believe. Actually he shaved down to 225. Say what you will about Gillis, his last trade he made as a Canuck was a good one.
  15. That will be a suspension. That was an obvious premeditated head -butt.
  16. Great game ! Sloppy but it was exciting. I am a habs fan but I sure hope both teams get the message after the embellishment penalty. Officals have the right to call honest penalties . I think they should go further. I think the league should review guys who dive or embellish and start fining them , then suspending them . Get that crap out of the game.
  17. Ritchie got 74 points in 61 games. I dont know if he ever gets 60 in the NHL. Maybe he does. Who knows, perhaps he can get more. Ehlers scored 104 points..........but its true he played 2 extra games. I like the idea of having Ritchie's power game being in our line up. Its true we already have Kass and Matthias but another one couldnt hurt. I like the idea of having a 30 goal 80 point guy who has game breaking skill and speed in the lineup better.
  18. I dont understand the reference. Did he say that Ritchie was being pegged for 6th ?
  19. Didnt read that part. Where does it say that?
  20. here are the talking points - Core group is solid Sedins. Bieksa Hamhuis mentioned specifically wants coach to fit that group. -Still in process of finding coach. Seems like he is still in the beginning stages of that search - About his job description, Benning will talk to other GMs but will let Linden know what he is doing at each step for his imput. Communication is the key . Considers Linden his boss. -Hasn't spoken to Kesler yet. Unclear what Ryan's plans are . Will find out and move from there. - Wants a big physical team. Feels its a necessity to compete in the Pacific division. More physicality so that we can play both ways specifically mentioned Chicago as an example. - Never talked about drafting. -
  21. This is how i feel too. If we pick Ritchie I will be happy. , I think Ehlers is the better prospect though.
  22. Ok we got a 35 year old goalie on a huge cap contravention contract until he is aged 43 years old. While is still a competent goalie, he is no all star anymore. What do you expect to get for him? Within 2 years he is going to have negative value. Instead, we got a huge 6ft 4 third line center with upside who is only 26 years old. We also got a goalie who was highly touted as the best goalie not in the NHL. I would argue that its not going to be long before the trade looks really lopsided in our favor. I am very happy with the Luongo trade.
