Depends if we mean it in a good way or bad way. The most truculent of them all is Virtanen in my opinion .

[Nick Ritchie] Junior Point totals vs Getzlaf, Lucic, and Nash
Absent Canuck replied to Merci's topic in Canucks Talk
Ritchie does not have the speed or skill that Ehlers has. To even suggest it is a willful denial of the basic facts. Ritchies skill is good, his skating is adequate, and his size is exceptional. Ehlers has the speed and skill to excel at the NHL level. I told you how the others have done since the lockout. The rules changed providing more skating and scoring. The salary cap demanded more parity. The slide rule for juniors encouraged teams to keep their picks in the CHL creating an enhanced competition with high end over agers. Trying to compare Ehlers to players twenty years ago under different conditions is a non starter. Its made by those with a conflict of interest to uphold another prospect. The reason why I am behind Ehlers so much is because I never developed a personal bias. I looked at them all from an objective point of view, and found Ehlers to be the best candidate. Backed up with stats and other scouting opinions. Ritchie and Ehlers are different players. Egro while their value might be similar, their fanbase will be diverse. Those upholding Ritchie will not see the same value in Ehlers because of the different skillset. They will prefer the skillset Ritchie has and thus it holds more value to them. I expect the canucks to choose one of Ehlers, Nylander or Ritchie. If the gossip is true about the Canucks being put off by Nylanders attitude and father, its really between Ehlers and Ritchie. I am fine with either. Please save the rants, biased vitriol, personal attacks for those who are new to the discussion. I have no interest in going through it all again. Its all been asked and answered long ago. -
That does look like a baby faced Kesler......................and a baby faced Burrows looking on.

Quit being gullible, you are the problem with this team.

Ok but they arent talking about the 'rumormongering' . They are talking about the wisdom of your complaining. -
The difference is Perlini's dad did it with one hand tied behind his back.

This I am pretty sure Ekblad or Reinhart go first. After these 2.............

There is too much cherry picking going on with what he said at the press conference. -He says the team has to get back to its strength of speed and skill -He says he wants a 4 line team. The bottom 2 lines need to contribute with physicality -He says he wants the scouts to look for big physical players -He says he wants speed and skill on his top 2 lines and toughness on his bottom two so we can win both ways. You can cherry pick whatever you want out of it. To me all he has said is exactly what all the other 29 GMs would say.

I think the guy was frustrated and venting. However, the curious thing to me is he is 33 years old, a former mod who has been active on a hockey forum with teenagers for almost 11 years. Just NOW hes frustrated and needed to set the record straight? -
I disagree. We needed a center............5 years from now. It wasnt a trade or UFA signing. It was drafting an 18 year old.

Ok you have been on here for almost 11 years and now you are complaining about lying, manipulating, scamming, gossip mongering by kids hiding behind a computer using a fake name? I wouldnt worry about things you cant control. -

This. As someone who has been a fan longer than most on here have been alive, I would like to think I know something about 'supporting my team' . Wanting the team to try to make the playoffs every year in a vain attempt to go nowhere is not supporting your team. Its supporting your own entertainment. Gives you something to do. You dont want to be 'bored' because the Canucks are not playing. 29 teams lose the stanley cup each year. I am certain that I can speak for all Canuck nation when I say we know a thing or two about NOT winning the cup. We have been proficient at it for 43 years. Anyone who says they cheer every year for us to win the cup is in willful denial or is outright lying. I can name 5 years in our history where I really thought we had a legitimate chance to win the cup. The rest was wishful thinking. Those of us who want to trade players is not for spite. Not for 'turning' on the team. Not fairweather or bandwagon fans. We are doing it because its the best thing for the player and our franchise. Its a win/win. The player gets to move to a team priming for a cup run. Happens all the time to very high profile players. We get the assets back for that player while they are still in their prime to help rebuild the franchise. If you care about your team. Honestly care, you are willing to put up with non winning seasons and still find entertainment and joy with the team. I have no problems 'not winning the cup' as long as we are drafting in the top 5 moving towards a restocked team with high end talent. 'Real Fans' are in this for the long run. We are willing to be patient and make small sacrifices in the short term. -
The mask looks like Roggie Vashon . Can we have a hint on this one?
-
Is it Peterborough Pete?

I am starting to think this as well. im not convinced but I am open to giving him a pass. I would like to hear how he does at the combine .

I cant believe we had a chance to draft Nichushkin . If you told me it was going to happen I would have told you it would cost our pick (24) plus Schneider and Tanev to trade all the way up to #5 where he was projected to go. Then all of a sudden we can get him for just Schneider??? It seems like the story of Gillis' tenure. He pulls off this amazing coup to draft a franchise player who has luckily fallen to us..........but instead he chooses Horvat? Bo is a solid player. If he turns out to be Bergeron I will be satisfied for what we gave up . He just needs to work on his footspeed and hes got all the other tools.

Here is a guy who uses common sense. +1 I am happy with Ehlers, Nylander or Ritchie. I feel these three are better prospects than Virtanen is at #6. I still want to get another pick and get Virtanen at #10. The rush to parse Bennings words and read into it what they want to believe is ridiculous. No doubt about it. I admit , I am having fun with it at this point. So what? It would be funny if it werent so sad. Do these guys really believe Benning or Linden are going to announce who they want to draft? Unless you are drafting 1st overall, tipping your hand is self defeating. Its not happening.

[Nick Ritchie] Junior Point totals vs Getzlaf, Lucic, and Nash
Absent Canuck replied to Merci's topic in Canucks Talk
Who knows? Wilson only needed one year. Kass 2 and Beach flopped completely. Unfortunately, power forwards are just way too hard to predict. However, none made it to the NHL straight after the draft. When Ritchie finally does get drafted later on , I am certain he will be developed properly to reap rewards later on. -

Its irrelevant what you think. What matters is what the Canucks think. And Benning says he wants skill on the top 2 lines. Size and grit on the bottom lines. Its a fact. Come check this out. http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/shawn_matthias/ Shawn Matthias scouting report. Its the same as Ritchies. Kenny Holland is great at finding gems later in the draft. Same with Benning. He found Lucic 50th overall. I hope their is a power forward there for us at 36 or even 66th. Its a risk because power forwards take so long to develop and rarely pan out anyways. Oh well. Its worth a shot -
You dont draft 'grittier' guys that high in the top 10. I cant even remember the last time someone passed up elite speed and skill to get 'grittier' that high in the draft. Benning specifically stated he wanted speed and skill in the top 6 , size and grit on the bottom two lines. No doubt he will get the scouts to hunt for gems in the later rounds. Benning found Lucic in the second round. I agree that should be the emphasis to get guys who can play a hard game so it leaves the real players to score goals. Its a team game. You need the big bodies to protect the true assets. We got Sestito who like Ritchie has upside as well as his agitating /gooning abilities. Mattias looks like could push for the top 6 and of course we already have Kassian. Matthias is 6ft 4 and 230 pounds . He too put up 38 goals and 74 points while in junior. Ritchie probably hero worships him a bit. They have a lot in common. Canucks have size. We need grit to make it tougher to play against . We need our power players to use that size. Obviously Benning is going to take a Nylander , that goes without saying. But then we can probably seek an agitator later on. In fact, Benning has a track record of drafting skill high and looking for big enthusiastic players who dont necessary need to think to much in the later rounds.

I dont think there has been a power forward who make the NHL right after they were drafted. Not in a long time anyways. Let me go check.......... Tom Wilson is a true powerforward. A highly touted one at that. He played an extra year in Plymouth. Before him Zack Kassian is another true power forward and he played two years extra in junior. Kyle Beach was also a highly touted power forward but he played extra years in junior as well. Powerforwards tend to take the longest time to develop so he will no doubt be in junior next year.

I disagree. I dont profess to know what Benning is thinking . All you are doing is assigning what you want to Benning , so ergo its no longer your opinion, its some kind of objective talking point. If you want to parse words the guy says and apply it to your wishes, then his views become anything you want them to be. It doesnt mean its an objective viewpoint. Besides his size, Ritchie has no value above Ehlers.. Zero. You can sugar coat it all you want but the stats dont support it. However, I am willing to make a friendly wager with you . I state that Ehlers will be drafted before Ritchie. Do you accept the wager?
