I enjoy your posts quite often I just disagree on this point. I have been keeping an eye on this guy since training camp. He looked slow . He could keep up with the play but that is about it. Its hard to stand out or be effective as a high end 1st rounder that way. He got off to a good jump this year but he has some high end overagers to play with in London. He tailed off and his playoff performance was not very good. Even if he was injured, his footspeed is making me sweat bullets. Hes got a great 2 way game but he needs to shed 10 pounds and work on his quickness.
-
if we could get the equivalent of 9th overall in a deep draft back for him, YES I trade him. Hes projecting to be a two way second line guy as a good case scenario. There is no way I see first line scoring material with him. He just isnt build that way. He needs to improve his speed. Without speed, he is dead meat. Especially as a two way forward who has to play a 200 ft ice to be effective. If he doesnt improve his footspeed he will end up a solid third line shutdown guy /pk guy with upside. I pray he sees a specialist in the summer and figures out to become quicker. Maybe drop down to 190. I have my fingers crossed.

Yes I do. And I dont need to put the others down to do so. I appreciate your sediment and I like your style. I have no idea who we are going to draft . I think its between Ritchie Ehlers and Nylander. I really dont care if people want another prospect, but my broken record is the same. Can they do it without ripping apart the other candidates with hateful spin and hyperbole???? Its just a hockey forum.
-
I know you dont post much but earlier in this thread some of the regulars on this thread were actually trying to spin Ehlers into 5ft 8 Jordan Schroeder or 5ft7 Martin St Louis and 5ft9 Tyler Ennis . I really wish we could have had an honest, and respectful conversation about a 6ft speedy Ehlers vs a 6ft shifty but even smarter Nylander vs a 6ft 3 power forward with a good IQ and wicked shot, and even throw in the 6ft 1 super charged local boy with a nose for the net. But no. devolved into a mud slinging pile of crap where insecurity reigned and they chose to rip apart the prospects with lies and hyperbole in a vain attempt to make their prospect look better in comparison. Like what we had to say on it is going to influence Linden or Benning. I do appreciate the infor about wiki. It is the most recent info published but we are so close to the combine we will all know for sure soon enough.

. Nobody said he is Pavel Bure. The scouts say he skates like him. I went and saw it for myself. He does look it. Doesnt mean he will score 60 goals or make the hall of fame. Bure was a rookie at 20 years old. 20 and a half actually. He was 5ft 10 and 180 pounds. I know. I was at the Pacific Colosseum when he played his first home game. Lets give the 18 year old kid a chance to gain 4 pounds. He is almost 6ft even and 176 pounds right now at 18.
-
No he didnt. There are 7 rounds . You dont go looking for size and toughness at #6 when you can hunt for it everywhere else. Bennings track record for the 'big bad bruins' was to drafted the highest skill he could in the top 10. I appreciate your post but when you start assigning what you want to believe onto the guys words you become partisan political hacks. If you just want to come post as a partisan hack, there isnt much point in discussing anything.

As opposed to what? Lets trade all our picks and sign UFAs. Once again you have shown your brilliant ability to repackage the obvious as some kind of keen insight.
-
There is no reason. It would be a suspension of disbelief Benning passes on Ritchie ........to take Virtanen. He passes on Ritchie to take Ehlers or Nylander.
-
He might even fall to 11 or 12 if the Fabbri hype holds. He should be there if we grab the Ottawa 1st.

1)Can you provide a list of the 6ft 176 players (if he never grows anymore or puts on one ounce of weight after age 18) that get 'pushed around' in the NHL? Then contrast that to a list of the other 90% 6ft 176 pound players who dont? 2)Every other player who put up the stats as Ehlers did since the lock out are now first liners, stars and one second liner. There is no prospect who DIDNT translate his skill. Not ONE. 3)Your claim to be unimpressed is irrelevant. Your love for Virtanen is duly noted but all you have done here is put down the other prospects and sugar coat Virtanen. It renders the opinion useless.
-
I still have no idea what Virtanen brings to the game that Ritchie does not other than he is faster in an icing foot race. Ritchie has better size and skill in every other way including the most important. Hockey IQ
-
Stopped reading after this. You dont know either.
-
No but he could very well go 5th or 6th. Giroux went 22nd but should have gone in Brassards 6th spot and vice versa. Mac Kinnon went 1st but Drouin went 3rd. Fifth or 6th isnt that much different and they all played on the same team.
-
. The way he plays is like Bure. His skill level is not . You might want to give Ehlers a chance to grow up before you compare him to 30 year old fully grown players. This is the same stupid asked and answered objections that we went through 40 pages.
-
what size? Some of the guys on here seem to think being 6ft1 208 is some ridiculous advantage for a forward than 6ft 176 pounds. Especially when they arent even full grown. Who possibly believes something like that can make up for elite speed, skill and general hockey sense.
-
because I got it backwards lol. He is just as comfortable playing his off wing, the right. But thanks for picking that out. Just when I was beginning to think I was perfect too.
-
It is utterly irrelevant what you want to speculate on or how you want to parse Bennings words to fit your own narrative.
-
Skating would be a focus. Toughness would be a focus. Skill would be a focus. Bringing excitement would be a focus. Ok, the Canucks draft everyone in the first round. That should satisfy every parsed word.
-
Admit it. You are posting because you just want people to pay attention to you.
-
You honestly expect anyone to believe that? Ok since Bennings draft record doesnt fit your narrative then it doesnt count but parsing the very same Bennings words do. Your posts are non productive at this point.
-
Yes because we only draft in the first round. Bennings own draft record with the bruins shows he drafted skill at the forward position when he was lucky enough to draft that high. You guys are reading what you want to read. Spinning what you want to spin. Is this really the corner you have ended up in? Trying to pick out words out of an opinion guess piece ? This is where you are making your last stand? Parsing Botchford? You are starting to sound like partisan political hacks.
-
He never mentioned using a #6 overall pick to draft size. His two high end picks were Phil Kessel and Tyler Seguin. You guys are parsing every single word the guy says to see and hear what you want to see. Perhaps it would be better to spend time doing something else Edit : Just to save yourselves some time, here is Bennings record inside the top 10 as a Bruin since 2000. 2006 Phl Kessell 5ft 11 168lbs (at the time) 2007 Zack Hamill 5ft 10 170 (super bust) 2010 Tyler Seguin 6ft .05 182 (at the time) 2011 Douggie Hamilton -monster defenseman Stands to reason pretty stongly -almost conclusively- he drafts for skill in that position (for forwards anyways) in the top 10. You Ritchie and Virtanen supporters should really quit while you are behind. This one backfired.
-
Because he had so many top 5 picks right? Oh right. He did have 2. Phil Kessel and Tyler Seguin. High end skill players neither of which are are known for their physical play. You see what you want to see.
-
I would worry about it more than if he was 21. The good news is its the shoulder and not the knee , spine or head.
-
You heard what you wanted to hear.
