Nobody who put up numbers like Ehlers did in their draft year since the lock out in the QMJHL busted at all. Worst case is 2nd liner Derrick Brassard. Best case is Crosby but realistically Drouin , Girioux and MacKinnon. Huberdeau is a rangy player with a different skill set at center. Ehlers is as bust proof as any prospect in the draft if there ever was such a thing as 'bust proof'. Ritchie's predecessors do not have the same luck. However we then have to look at what 'bust means'. If it means Lucic style power forward with upside, then the chances of bust are better than 50/50. If it means he cant even get a job as a 4th line enforcer? Then the odds of him busting are virtually nill. Hes to big and talented to be an outright bust. Big guys like this who outright bust cant skate to save their lives.

The information I have is Ehlers is anywhere from 5ft 11.5 -5ft 11.75 and 170 to 176. That is noticeably taller than Shinkaruk but not bigger. Hunter is 180. If 6ft and 5ft 10 is the same size, so is 6ft and 6ft 2 Dal Colle , Draisaitl, Reinhart are. . Ehlers is the fastest player with the puck in the last two years. Including Drouin and Mac Kinnon. I think Shink is quick but not on the same level. Ehlers scored 49 goals but Hunter sniped the same amount at age 16 . He really is a finisher. Giroux is an amazing talent but Ehlers is bigger faster and just as talented. I think at the time he was drafted there was still a size stigma and QMJHL point stigma as being soft. Not anymore.

I have been one of Ryan Keslers biggest supporters his whole Canuck career. I want him traded, but then after playing his prime with the ducks or jackets or whomever, come back here once we have rebuilt, and play the rest of his career here. Then retire his number. Much like Trevor Linden was sacrificed in order to get the assets to purchase Henrik Sedin. I think Columbus and Anaheim are the best places for Ryan.

Dont worry . They wont. They werent going to pick him anyways. He isnt the BPA at #6. Ritchie is a bigger version of Virtanen and has a higher hockey IQ
-
Nice write up Elbow. There is no reason why Ritchie cannot thrive in the NHL. I am not going to cry a river if we pick him. If we pick anyone other than those 3 , I would be disappointed at #6 (assuming Dal Colle and Daisaitl are gone) My question is this; If Linden / Benning pass up on Ritchie, wouldnt it be to get an elite level scorer ? Ergo Ehlers/ Nylander? What would their rationale to pass up Ritchie.............for the sake of taking Virtanen? Ritchie is a bigger version of Virtanen and has a high hockey IQ. No we dont want a huge winger with an excellent shot and fairly high IQ............we want the same physical winger who is smaller but is slightly faster with a noticeably lower IQ ? This is why for me the Canucks will not pick Virtanen. He offers nothing that Ritchie, Ehlers and Nylander can also offer. Ritchie for the power winger. Ehlers for his amazing talents, or Nylander for his brains and skill .

+1 You dont need to say you were arrogant or anything else. You feel strongly about these two. I respect that. Your feelings are just as valid as anyone elses. Damn I wish the others would take this same attitude instead of fight all the time. Edit: I have decided to add in some context so you know where I am coming from. Ehlers is not the same player as Shinkaruk. They are both under 6ft (Ehlers might be there now) fast wingers who can score and are dynamic. However, the similarities end at that point. Ehlers is bigger and faster. He is also a natural right handed shot playing the left wing. He is just as adept at right wing, which we are sorely lacking. He plays his off wing due to a personnel issue within the Mooseheads lineup more that a personal preference of Ehlers. Shinkaruk can also play center as well. He has a better shot than Ehlers even though both are dynamic goal scorers. Nylander is a center /mastermind. The only guy we even remotely have like that is Henrik Sedin. We have no prospect like him at all . We sorely need high end talent like that. I dont like him as much as Ehlers because he may have played NA hockey until age 14, he played his whole junior career on the big ice which enhances his strengths of playmaking and diminishes his lack of physical play. Ehlers proved his worth in the CHL. So I have specific reasons why I pick these two from an organizational point of view. I pick Ritchie third because we already have Zack Kassian as a true power forward. I dont know too many teams who carry two true power forwards. I dont have an issue with it but the canucks are not a small team. We just picked up Matthias who is only 26 years old . We have lots of size per se. Its not a huge need. However I like him far more than Virtanen . This is what I wanted to ask you. If we dont pick Ritchie, why would they pick Virtanen. I see why they would pick Nylander if they dont pick Ehlers, but why would they pass up Ritchie........to take Virtanen? What possible purpose would that serve. Ritchie is the better prospect period and both have similar attributes.

[Nick Ritchie] Junior Point totals vs Getzlaf, Lucic, and Nash
Absent Canuck replied to Merci's topic in Canucks Talk
Not if its Ehlers or Nylander he is passed up for. Anyone else, yes I would be disappointed. -
I am the biggest Ehlers supporter on here, and I have no idea if we are drafting him or not. I have a pretty good educated guess of whom we might pick. I say there is an 80% chance we pick Ehlers, Ritchie or Nylander. I cant see us drafting anyone else at that position if none of the top 5 drop. So to say you are pretty sure we arent drafting the guy is not a very credible statement. You cant possibly know that. You are 'hedging your bets' . Gambling if you will with a better than 50% chance of guessing right. Telling people what WONT happen is not some kind of keen insight. I am dead certain the Sabres will not win the cup next year. You can quote me on it!!! Willie Mitchell will NOT win the Norris next year. Just remember you heard it here first. Why dont you tell us who you DO think they will draft. My 80% certainty of 3 players may not seem like a crystal ball, but its the most I can go without outright guessing.

I understand the organizational needs but Tanev + Ehlers /Nylander / Ritchie > Reinhart.
-
How many 5ft 11 (yes they insist on milking his 17 year old height until the combine) 165 to 176 pound guys at age 17 score 49 goals and 104 points in their first and only year in the CHL ? He forgot to add that into his analysis. Oops. We argued this whole thing out 30 pages ago and here they are again arguing the exact same asked -and -answered questions again.
-
I had him pegged at #9 after Ehlers, Nylander and Ritchie going 678. But now with Fabbri's stock rising he could fall to 10 or even 12.
-
I know you disagree but I never had Virtanen being drafted at #6. Ritchie Nylander and Elhlers are better prospects. The injury will hurt him to the extent of the physical limitations he has at the combine. The interviews should still be the same.
-
I dont know. That is just what I heard from DeNiro. I dont know how practical it is though. If I was the islanders i would ask for our 3rd in 2015 . There could still be a reasonable player there if we finish in the lottery .

I saw this on another thread . Its so good I cant resist.

He just made it up to jerk your chain.

What is the point of posting if you are just going to make up outright lies? Hiding behind a computer using a fake name to spit lies out doesnt add much to the conversation. I want you to consider your logic while making up your lies. It has to be realistic if people are going to believe your horse crap. No GM of a pro hockey team is going to say he gladly trades speed and skill for toughness while drafting in the top 10. Let alone an owner of a 400million dollar franchise. He would be universally mocked as a buffoon.
-
Calgary won in 1989. Virtanen plays for the Calgary Hitmen. Try to keep up with the logic.
-
I have tried my hardest to deduce who our best choice is at #6. Obviously Dal Colle or Daisraitl are if they fall. If the top 5 go as planned , then to me I concluded its Ehlers, Nylander and Ritchie. I would be surprised to see Benning chose any other player at #6 as in my opinon those are the 3 best players avail at that spot. I can predict that without a trade or the top 5 falling, a 80% chance he picks one of those three. That may not be a very accurate or bold prediction but its the best one I can make using an intelligent guess.
-
Do you think that just might be the point of his posts?
-
Considering there is no way in hell we are drafting him at #6 , most of us dont really care what nationality Virtanen is.
-
I just did a look back at CSS in 2009 to get a real feel for how they were ranked, drafted and turned out. First off they split them all into categories so its virtually impossible to pin down what they are trying to say in terms of teams picking one player after the next. I will say that they had Jordan Schroeder as the 5th best NA skater ...............way ahead of several of others including far down the list Nazim Kadri. John Moore , Scott Glennie all ranked ahead of Kadri, Ryan Ellis and more. http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?id=11810 We can analyze the lists from previous years but I its not ISS or CSS job to come to consensus. Its job is to scout on a limited budget and publish its findings. Mock draft guys like Mac Kenzie or THN or ESPN prospectus have the benefit from scamming info from all different sources including club scouts so they have a far better picture of consensus than the two rating agencies. This is what I have discovered from looking at their track records.
-
I dunno . I have been pretty active on this topic and 90% of us who prefer another prospect never consider it. There were the few who did but I brushed them off like those who tried to compare Ehlers/Nylander to Jordan Schroeder.
-
not bad at all. Ritchie is third for me. Ehlers, if not then Nylander, if not then Ritchie.
