  1. If Kesler didn't want to be traded Benning and Linden wouldn't be saying they will have to talk to him about his future, they would just simply say that they aren't going to trade him. They want teams to know that he is still available and they are willing to trade him. I would be surprised if he is still a Canuck after the draft.
  2. I hate to be that guy but technically Nylander is Canadian since he was born in Alberta and he grew up playing in NA. He's only been playing in Sweden for 3 years.
  3. Linden said the player they draft will become a "cornerstone of the franchise" but how many 6th overall picks have become a cornerstone of a franchise? I only count 1 since the 2000 draft, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, although you could argue Mikko Kouivo is another. So either they are planning to trade for the first overall pick or they think they are going to get a franchise player with the 6th pick.
  4. Stanislav Chistov isn't European though, he is a Russian. only played 3 seasons in the NHL then bolted to the KHL. So really the only one is Granlund and he has become one if Minnesota's best players. But I still agree with you that it is a risk.
  5. I would say there is a chance but Draisaitl or MDC are more likely to fall to us I can't see NYI or Calgary passing on Bennett
  6. Mikael Granlund is one of them who is the other?
  7. I'm not too worried about Horvat. I think he will be a solid 2nd line center. We've seen during the WJC what he can do when he he has an offensively skilled linemate in McDavid and is put in a scoring role. Yeah he didnt get many points but he was able to set up McDavid for a bunch of great scoring chances.
  8. Not really, picks from '07 to '12 are all good NHL players
  9. If we want to come up with a rough estimate of what Ehlers final height/weight will be we can look at his dad who is 6'/190lbs. A player who weighs 190lbs can play in the NHL. I'll do Nylander as well. His dad is 6'/194lbs. No point in checking for Ritchie or Virtanen since they are already NHL size
  10. I'm not a Virtanen supporter either but Benning said he wants a player with size, skill, and speed. This basically describes Virtanen. Still hoping Draisaitl or Dal Colle fall to #6 if not I would take Ehlers or Ricthie.
  11. So Gillis kills Linden and tries to take over the Canucks with his pack of player agents?
  12. After the Bruins got beat by Montreal's speed and then Boston's GM saying that they have to get more speed on their team I think it is impossible to predict who Benning will draft.
  13. What would you guys think it would take to trade with the NYI for the fifth pick? How about 6th pick+3rd round+5th round for 5th pick? If we trade up for the fifth it guarantees we get one of Draisaitl, or Dal Colle, and everyone on CDC will be happy.
  14. Thankfully "aquaman" isn't our gm or our team would be a bunch of Tom Sestito's then
  15. Jim Benning kind of looks like a skinny John Goodman...
  16. maybe there getting Trotz signed to? going to announce both hiring's together?
  17. LOL, sweet beard. If Knights lose tomorrow is their season done?

Its really not that bad. Kinda of like a pear before its ripe except the outside is a little tougher.

  19. Dale Tallon on possibly taking Nikolaj Ehlers with the first overall pick(source): "Dale Tallon on Ehlers potentially being drafted top 5: 'Why not? I’m willing to take some chances. We took a chance with Kane first overall. We have a great young nucleus of centers now and tremendous depth on the blue line and up the middle and for us moving forward. We need to add skill speed and grit on the wing.' " If he takes Ehlers first overall that leaves us with someone from the top 5. If he really wants Ehlers it would be smart to just trade down out of the top 3.
  20. Because AbsentCanuck asked... Nikolaj Ehlers Draft year playoff stats: Round 1 (Charlottetown) 4games - 4g, 10pts Round 2 (Gatineau) 5games - 4g, 10pts Round 3 (Val-D'Or) 7games - 3g, 8pts total points: 11goals, 28 points Jonathan Drouin Draft year playoff stats: Round1 (Saint John) 4games - 2g, 10pts, Round 2 (Gatineau) 4games - 2g, 5pts Round 3 (Rouyn-Noranda) 4games - 6g, 14pts Round 4 (Baie-Comeau) 5games - 2g, 5pts total points(up to round 3): 10 goals, 31 points Very similar stats up to the 3rd round so make whatever assumption you want with it. Also I know nothing about the Q since we have no prospects in it so some insight into how good the teams they versed would be helpful.
  21. since it would be around 1 am in Pittsburgh i am pretty sure he is making it up...
  22. @AbsentCanuck I AM saying if we take a risk we should take Nylander or Ehlers. I like Ehlers more than Nylander, but I think Nylander has a higher ceiling therefor he would be MY first choice You seem to misinterpret what I am trying to say and are coming to the assumption that I hate Ehlers and am just trying to provoke you. Well I'm not and I apologize for upsetting you and hope you give me the same apology.
  23. You're driving me insane. Stop putting words in my mouth. I never said we shouldn't draft Ehlers nor did i say he was a risk, all I said about Ehlers is "he is insanely fast and had a good rookie season." and i would be extremely happy if we drafted him. And can you please explain to me how I started the argument?
  24. ↑ I never denied any responsibility over this arguement. I think it is split 50/50 between both of us and it should end/ I think if we are going to draft a high risk player I would take Nylander. I think he has a better offensive upside and better offensive skills than Ehlers, although I wouldn't be against Ehlers simply because he is insanely fast and had a good rookie season. If were going the safe route I would take Ritchie. I don't think Virtanen is worthy of the 6th pick. Ritchie's floor would be a good 4th liner and his ceiling could be a 60-70 point PWF. The thought of Kassian and Ritchie on the same line makes him very tempting. But with that said any of Ekblad, Reinhart, Bennett, Draisaitl, or Dal Colle should be taken ahead of these guys.
