[GDT] Nucks @ Bruins - Feb 04 2020 - 4pm Pacific - SNET
HomeBrew replied to xereau's topic in Canucks Talk
Boston is just simply better defensively. We can't get anything going offensively other than from the outside. -
It sounds to me that you are constructing arguments from both sides in order to justify your trade Tanev viewpoint. On the one hand you say things like, and I'm paraphrasing, "we aren't going to make the playoffs without him, so why bother? Trade him for picks." On the other hand, you suggest that our depth may be enough to cover his worth regardless. Which is it that you believe? You also seem determined that Tanev won't be re-signed, which you really have no idea about whether that is going to happen or not. I think most people here, and the Canucks organization themselves, believe that playoff experience is more valuable than an additional pick at this point in time. Tanev, and hopefully Tryamkin, will be a big part of that experience. Team Tank is over for the next decade, so you might as well move it to the trade/proposals section.

Exactly. We are currently second in the Western Conference... and people are suggesting to trade our best defensive dman, with no immediate replacement, for a draft pick? I guess it takes awhile to shake off the rebuild mindset.

He doesn’t have far to go to reach the top 10, but there are some significant seasons put up near the top that are clearly unattainable. U19 top seasons in the KHL:

Yes, this is true. But I have no idea why you are stating this, but it actually goes to reinforce what I am saying about how the value of what we are returning to Tampa Bay has yet to be decided because the conclusion of the trade has not happened yet. You are demonstrating that you have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to risk in this trade or value within it. As it relates to this trade, TJ Miller's play effects the outcome of this trade because his play improves our team, and the improvement in our team means higher placement in the standings. A higher finish in the league means the value of the pick being returned to Tampa Bay is lower (see your previous comment about a 31st having lower value). Thus, if we finish high in the standings and have a good playoff run, we would getting a better return and value in this trade because Benning bet on us winning and won. *(note: this is all based on hypotheticals of us winning, which we haven't done yet)

1. The fair price was a high price. Both the reporters and Benning are right. 2. It's not a "landslide" victory of a trade, or "fleecing" as you want to call it. But, the Canucks are sure happy with how it is trending for them. I still don't get the impression that you understand how "risk" operates under these kind of trade conditions. 3. This isn't EA Sports. Just because you want to pay less for value, doesn't mean that BriseBois is going to give it to you - no matter much you want to spin the circumstances. This is purely your opinion, which you are entitled to.

It doesn't even do that. No where does it make that statement or show what the general consensus was. And just to repost my previous edit: just to back up most people's perspective and how bizarre your take is, here is a quote from Benning himself: “They were asking for more than we gave up,” Benning said. “I don’t like trading first-round picks but I thought this was the right guy.” Source: (https://nationalpost.com/sports/hockey/nhl/ed-willes-canucks-paid-a-high-price-for-j-t-miller-but-hes-been-worth-every-penny/wcm/5b2d2535-802b-4095-ba2d-124bed77e61b?video_autoplay=true)

Like I said, bizarre. That article you linked states nothing of the sort (https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/canucks-make-bold-j-t-miller-trade-questions-remain-defence/). The odd thing I've found in this entire argument of yours is that you feel as though you know what the asking price was, what the value was, what the negotiations occurred, that someone could have negotiated for more. The fact is you know none of this. Also, the actual trade value received is yet to be determined as the pick has not been delivered yet. This was a trade based on chance and risk, and that risk so far is trending in our favour. Vancouver was obviously looking at this and thinking "our players are good enough to make the playoffs, that pick won't be of high value" and Tampa was thinking "they are a bottom tier team and we could end up with a top 10 pick, we'll take that chance." BECAUSE it was a trade based on risk factors, the actual end results will determine whether this was a "good trade" or a "bad trade". Thus, why you have pundits (ie Ian MacIntyre) stating that this could turn out to be a bad trade, but they didn't actually know that at the time - they are just trying to write something that is interesting based on the risk involved. It is easy to see why you are confused by all this, but not so easy to see why you believe to know all this first hand knowledge I mentioned previously. That is just bizarre.

Agreed. Pettersson won SHL Championship and MVP going into his contract. He deserved to get paid more.

In a recent interview JB states that Ferland's current injury is not concussion related. This is good news for our concerns about his durability moving forward with concussions. Hopefully it is something that he is able to fully recover from and play his game at the level he likes to as we make a playoff push. https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/qa-canucks-gm-benning-trade-deadline-playoff-race/

Mathieu Perreault comments on Virtanen (interviewed in a salt mine)
HomeBrew replied to -SN-'s topic in Canucks Talk
MP basically turns and skates right into him with his head down. Common hockey collision. Could have been interference. Jake could have also done a lot worse if he wanted to, but he instead tried to let up and actually stop. This is no Duncan Keith maneuver here. -
Hogwash! Not that bad of a hit imo. Elbow was only a follow through motion.

We ain't in rebuilding mode anymore folks. Our top 4 D are not expendable until we have prospects stealing top 4 spots. Tan-man ain't going no wheres.

Yeah it’s hilarious! As soon as he picks up the puck, he’s like “oh $&!#, oh $&!#, oh $&!#”. Drops his stick and everything! Hahaha

This kid is still super young. He has two more world junior tournaments to play as a leader of the team before he makes the jump over here. I for one am excited to see how this 18 y/o kid develops over the next two years. He is seemingly getting more comfortable at each level as the season progresses. He looks to be too good for the MHL, is one of the more significant contributors in the VHL and I would say is bound to break out a bit at the KHL at some point this season. I could see him being a contributing regular in the KHL by seasons end. But if not, nothing to worry about. Still has another season over there. Super young.

You can tell that his timing is off and it is frustrating that hell out of him. He's hasn't been able to pick corners like he was last year - usually missing the net or making an easy for the goaltender. Once he feels comfortable again, he will likely start firing on all cylinders and pepper the net with his laser shot. Maybe the extra muscle he gained over the summer is throwing him off! haha -
