  1. I think they should have a "offer-sheet" type of scale. For instance, Jimmy Vesey signed a 3.775 per year contract with the New York Rangers which includes a .925 base and a 2.850 bonus. If it was considered an "offer-sheet" this would of put the contract just barely in the $3,755,233 to $5,632,847 range and the Nashville Predators would be compensated a 1st and a 3rd round pick. Something structured along those lines might work better for these scenarios and deter players from not signing and teams from poaching.
  2. Matthews was in Europe their draft year (2016) and thus did not effect their numbers. Clayton Keller has dominated offensively at every level he has played so far and is going to be a hell of a player for the Coyotes. I would not down play his talent. The only question mark is whether he might struggle to be as effective in the Western Conference as a center given his size.
  3. This season Mittelstadt has a 1.42 PPG rate for the Green Bay Gamblers. Another comparable is Nick Schmaltz who scored at a 1.15 rate.
  4. Offensively I saw a lot of Goldobin's game in Necas when he was on the attack in the offensive zone - making strong rushes while crashing the net, smart plays in tight and is dangerous with his shot from the point as well. Defensively, yes you are absolutely right, which is what I meant by that he plays a more responsible game. I would have no problem if we selected him in the draft at all.
  5. Top 2 pick: Nolan Patrick or Nico Hischier 3-8 Pick - one of the following in no particular order: - Casey Mittelstadt - Gabe Vilardi - Martin Necas I will be satisfied if we pick up one out of these five guys. We really need a strong center who can make high IQ plays with skill. Thus, I would pick BPA of the centers that are still on the board when we pick. I have been strong on Mittelstadt so far because I think he is perfect for what we need (outside of the top 2) and has proven that he shouldn't be written off because he went back to be a highschool hero. Vilardi is an all-around strong player that makes high IQ plays and has potential to progess his game even more if paired with the right playmaking winger/center. Necas has been proving himself to be a player worth talking about - I see his game to be similar to Goldobin, but playing at a more responsible position at center. Necas is currently playing with former Canucks prospect Alexandre Mallet, so perhaps GM JB will make a trip out to see what the potential is out there. All in all, those are my targets as of right now. I hope we pick up one of them.
  6. 15 pounds! wow! I hope that was all water weight because that would put him down to 170 lbs and it would take a lot to recover that. Hope to see him in soon - was one of the last reason I even wanted to watch the remaining games.
  7. I know there was a lot of talk about Jake Wise prior to this season, but from what I can tell, there seems to be a lot of kids out playing him at the same age. Is he still held in such high regard? Or, is he another "next one" to take a nose dive before meeting expectations?
  8. I remember last year being very happy that Columbus won their last game of the year to put us lower in the standings at 28th in the league... but I guess better odds are better odds. Hope for the best.
  9. 4 points in his last 7 games. Trending upwards at least in terms of production. I hope he can start to put together a multi-point game - something he has yet to do this season - going into the playoffs.
  10. WD didn't say they lost because of him, he said that they could of won because of him. Very different.
  11. Sedins might be retired before either one of them steps on the ice in North America - let alone on the Canucks.
  12. After consistently hearing about his continued raise in rankings I had to check him out: Definitely has some nice skills both in terms of stick handling and skating. He is a defenseman that we could use walking the line during the power play. Although he is only playing in the AJHL so can't really say how his playing style works with larger, better competition. With that said, Tyson Jost was selected out of the BCHL last year and is doing pretty well for himself. I take Makar is planning on the College route as well.
  13. I am not really picking up how his words are so terrible. Mind clarifying?
  14. It is currently not the end of summer. So we can discuss it then, if it does indeed prove still to be an issue?
  15. Honestly, why should we care to have such a lengthy conversation and bicker about his weight last year at the training camp? He has moved on and so should you.
  16. Yeah, after having the watched the tape again a few times, I almost got the sense that he didn't want to really engaged in the fight. You could almost read it on his expressions that "If I punch you in your face, I'm going to injure you." And he didn't really want to injury Benn.
  17. From what I can tell: GM JB told WD to let the young guys play and WD tells Tryamkin to explore his game. Man sure can tell that he will be turning into something special for us in the future. He was roaming into the offensive zone tactfully positioning himself to make real dangerous plays, showing potential to be a real force in the future once he figures out how to capitalize on the opportunities he makes for himself. He should, however, watch some tapes on Chara and how he gets it done, even in terms of fighting as well - because he does not look natural at that aspect yet, but I imagine he'll get some off season training in that department.
  18. “With [Boeser] and (Jonathan) Dahlen and (Nikolay) Goldobin, we’ve got some young prospects to be excited about. And Jake (Virtanen) is down to 213 pounds (he reported to camp at 231 pounds). It takes time, but you’ve got to have patience with these players.” - Jim Benning I believe the "231 pounds" was actually inserted by Ben Kuzma, but it has been widely reported. Why he was at the weight though is all speculative. Source: http://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/ben-kuzma-stecher-believes-boesers-scoring-touch-will-light-up-canucks-future EDIT: These weight gain scenarios always remind me of when Sopel came in after summer with like 20+ extra pounds of muscle looking like a powerlifter and they told him to cut it off because all it did was slow him down.
  19. Found it: http://www.tsn.ca/radio/vancouver-1040-i-1410/pyette-juolevi-has-improved-this-season-and-will-be-an-excellent-pro-1.696457 Pyette: Juolevi has improved this season and will be an excellent pro "I think he's gotten better... he has the exact same stats as last year... They have scored 50-60 less goals this year." "There is a lot of defensemen on this team that like to jump in as a 4th forward, and Olli can do it, but I think they have asked him to be the more defensive style guy, take more of the penalty kill role, play the quite game because they have enough guy that can really jump up." "Has done a real solid job and shows up to work and plays every day." "Dale doesn't want, because of matchups, Olli and Mette out there together because he doesn't want his two strongest defensemen out there together." Post-WJC: "He took a lot of that burden on himself. He wasn't the same [after the World Junior] for the first couple of weeks. I think he has pulled out of that." "He has been good, but I don't think he has been outstanding." "He is going to be a good puck moving D, but I don't think he is going to grab the bull by the horns and go out and wins games for you. He'll be one of those nice players, what you call them, minute eaters." "One of the best import kids to play for the London Knights. A real leader on and off the ice." "If he doesn't make the Canucks [next year], I think he should he go back to Finland or whatever his options are because I don't think he should play another year in the OHL."
  20. Haha guess so! It was missing the usual indicators of sarcasm like smiley faces and excessive use of punctuation!!!
  21. Well that sounds like a made up story if I ever heard one. Troll much? Somehow this friends kid of yours is also friends with Gaudette? Most of what is said on here about him is nothing less than glowing reviews and enthusiasm or is he referring to all of the Willie nonsense?
  22. Yes. That is apparently Brock's preference. Whether he is able to negotiate that from GM JB is another question, but, regardless of which league he will start in, the rumour is that he wants to go pro as soon as his season is done.
