  1. Some good points in this thread, as well as some dumb ones Nylander doesnt play as fragile as people say.. I say he's already a bit more aggressive then Henrik Sedin or Nicklas Backstrom... As for skill, the 3 of them were all equally talented at this age.. He played the year with grown men so obviously he didnt overpower anyone... Playing for Sweden last month, regarding aggression/toughness I thought he handled himself very well against kids his own age... Offensively, I think he was the most dominant player in the tournament.. With a solid training camp, he can play between 9-82 games in the NHL next year Virtanen understandably gets mixed reviews.. His style of play is very exciting and fun to watch and I think his game would transition very well into the NHL.. I never thought of Booth as a comparison before but it's actually a pretty good one.. Great speed, and strength, but poor vision and IQ .. Booth doesnt have his shot, Virtanen doesnt have his hustle.. Booth uses speed and strength to go around the dman and drive to the net... Virtanen prefers to go through the dmen.. His speed is used up n down the wing... *He is almost a full year younger then the other #6th overall candidates April 2013: 62gms 16-18-34pts April 2014: 71gms 45-26-71pts April 2015: 71gms 60-35-95pts in WHL... 65-40-105pts in OHL... 70-45-115pts in QMJHL April 2016: Virtanen would be 19 like Mantha, whos 23 months older.. How many goals and points could Virtanen have in the Q? If this was April 2015 and Virtanen played for the Oshawa Generals with Cassels or Laughton, I say he gets more goals and points then Dal Colle does... If he played in Halifax in place of Ehlers on a line with Drouin, I can only imagine how many goals he would have
  2. Agree with you totally.. I also notice that drafting guys who climb the rankings like Sanheim did, often turn out better (Perron, Drouin, etc.) As opposed to guys like Glover who were highly touted and drop (Sauve, Esposito, etc.)
  3. Keep this in mind though: -As you mentioned, Russian factor -A lot of guys would have passed him if they played the 67 games he did (7 or 8 guys with better points per game) -Plus/Minus was -30... yes Sarnia sucks, but still, 94 points and minus 30? -Many of his points on a good PP with Anthony DeAngelo quarterbacking it.. If DeAngelo played 67 games, he'd have almost as many points as Goldobin and he's a Dman -One of the oldest guys in the draft.. He was born a few days away from going in last years draft ***He was the best player in the youngstars game though, and is so freakin skilled
  4. Lemieux----Cant stop thinking about what itd be like having Claude Lemieux in the playoffs. Probably goes late round 1 Kempe-----Switch sides to RW and might play 2nd line with Sedins in 3 years.. Plays that exact A.Carter style they need Sanheim----So steady back there.. Future 2nd pairing dman Cornel-----I think he is a guarenteed future NHLer Fabbri----Similar to last years Nick Petan.. If he has a good memorial cup, he'll go high despite size Vrana----Was amazing at U-18 tourny.. I remember him being highly touted past couple years Karabacek---This guy will make people regret passing up on him Smith----Should be lower, but after solid playoffs, teams will have to use a 2nd if they want a winger whos almost 6'7 Audette----Shoud be a 3rd rounder, but I put him on my round 2 list cuz I think he will be a fantastic player despite size Deangelo/Mckeown---If one drops to 36, gotta take em 3rd round---Chatham, Moynihan, Turgeon, Watson, Haydon, or take the best european who drops to 3rd round: Pettersson, Kase, Karlsson, Kamenev, Lammikko So much talent in rounds 2+3+4.. I hope we deal some depth players for picks like we did with Diaz.. SJ acquired Kennedy for 2 2nds last year.. maybe do Hansen for 2nd+3rd.. Or just trade down for multiple picks, for example 36th for 50+70+80 Need to pickup a goalie, maybe 2.. Too many good players in the 2nd round to pass on though, so I say use the 3rd pick on a goalie.. Demko will be gone, so whichever is available between Nedeljkovic, MacDonald, and Husso.. Round 5 pick find another stud Dman like we have of late (I predict Adam Ollas-Mattsson)... Use 6th on Kahkonen Vanecek or D.Williams.. Devin WIlliams took over top goaltending prospect Oscar Dansk's starting job with Erie
  5. I think they have no choice but to go after the top free agents and hope to land one to get the fans excited about the season again (Vanek Moulson or Callahan).. everyone is choked right now, but once we upgrade the team in the off-season, seats will be full almost every game once again.. Without a big signing its gonna be a hard sell for the owners
  6. Well the good news is that since New Jersey automatically picks 30th, we are pretty much guarenteed a top 10 pick.. Another Bo Horvat calibre prospect coming our way, how exciting More good news, is NYI is likely giving Buffalo their 1st pick this season as opposed to next years McDavid sweepstakes.. This means Buffalo will have 2 top 5 picks.. Gillis has made a major move involving youth with Buffalo before, hopefully he can move up into the 5th position so we can take an almost certain future 1st line player in Draisaitl or Dal Colle. Another huge difference between picking 5th and 6th, is that with the 5th pick, you get a player who will play in the NHL next season, whereas whoever you take at 6, is a project player likely 2 seasons away 3rd line: Draisaitl Horvat Kassian.. in a year their total weight will be 700 pounds
  7. Sam Reinhart had 17 points in the first round of the playoffs this week The kid doesnt drop outside the top 3.. Hes got Jonathan Toews written all over him.. He will likely go 1st, and Ekblad/Bennett go either 2nd or 3rd.. Whoever picks 5th overall will receive the most offers of any team (Could be Buffalo again if NYI gives up their 1st this season instead of next as part of the Tomas Vanek deal).. The difference between 5 and 6 is very big Michael Dal Colle Regular Season: 95 points 1st Round Playoffs: 4 games, 10 points Leon Draisatl Regular Season: 105 points 1st Round Playoffs:4 games, 3 points COMPARED TO: William Nylander Regular Season: 22 points Brendan Perlini Regular Season: 71 points 1st Round Playoffs: 7 games, 1 point **I was all for Perlini as our pick, but that 1 point in a 7 game series LOSS worries me.. Im now leaning towards Haydn Fleury or Nick Ritchie.. Jake Virtanen and Nikolaj Ehlers are wildcards Van 1st (8th or so) Brendan Gaunce for 5th overall 35th overall With Horvat likely ready for NHL duty next season, and the emergence of Cole Cassels plus signing of Dane Fox, would you do this deal?
  8. Torts admitted that they dont even practice the PP.. every Dman is all the way back at the blueline which pisses me off.. I like how Keith and Sharp are positioned pretty much at the top of the circle... less time with the puck but it works great, you just gotta move the puck a lot quicker and have a big body screening Sure he isnt our best dman, and overpaid, but he's still pretty decent for a left handed dman whos played on the right side in almost every game these past 2 seasons.. He was brought in to put up points, and use his cannon on the PP.. AV tried to turn him into a shutdown D, fail.. Ballard comes in as a puck moving dman and ends up being a stay at home guy.. Needs to be better communication between MG and his coach regarding players roles when he acquires them If used properly, Garrison could be solid: 5v5, Pair him with an big, aggressive stay at home Dman... PP, give him a dman like Brian Campbell.. He scored 18 goals receiving passes from him on the PP just a few seasons ago
  9. Our owners spend to the limit every season.. Buy-out Ballard, would have bought out Booth if he wasnt injured.. Paying 15% of Lou's contract til 2045.. Our owners are not cheap.. Because of owners, we got to see out team in the stanley cup final.. Only negative thing I can say about them is that they should stay out of the player transactions.. Owners who get too involved must be annoying for GM's
  10. Garrison has had to play on his wrong side 90% of games.. only Right D we have is Bieksa Tanev Corrado.. next best is Alex Biega His cap hit is high, but you've got to overpay free agents to get them.. Although UFA signings often work out, rarely does the contract turn out to be a discount (Filppula, Hamhuis).. Under the radar guys you take chances on like Santorelli, sure thats a different story, but when you have established NHLers that require bidding wars, their almost always overpaid... Garrison's actual salary next season is a whopping 6mil.. Same thing with trades.. If Lou had a better contract, the return would have been far greater.. If Booth's cap was lower, we wouldnt have been able to get him for two cap dumps.. If Garrison's cap hit was 3.0m, and Booth's was 1.0m, people would love them Id want to see Garrison move back to left D, playing behind Hamhuis and in front of Stanton on the depth chart.. Edler must go while he still has some trade value.. Canucks are infamous for holding on to players too long.. You sell stocks high, not low
  11. We are gonna have enough money this offseason to get 3 quality UFA's -We finally have our 3C.. Richardson at 4C is an upgrade on Lain who will be very good, but isnt for full time nhl action -In net Lack has been better then Lou this year anyway so we dont get worse there -If we trade Kesler for a guy like Johansen or Schenn or something, we barely even downgrade, just save millions in cap -Next year Horvat makes the team. Jensen will be top 6 sniper IMO. Gaunce and Shinkaruk are 20. 1/2 will make team -Lou Kesler gone, Booth bought out, cap going up.. We can nearly 20 mil available this summer -Schenn/Johansen next year will probably put up more points then Kesler -Burrows will obviously be better, even if he produces half as much as the past -Sign the best puck moving UFA dman available -Sign the best goalscoring RW for the Sedins (Then Sedins go back to their normal production next year) -Sign another goalscorer like Gaborik/Vanek.. or go cheaper and get Heatley *We will not suck, we will be better I think.. NO need to rebuild because we will have a solid young NHL team, a great AHL team that will have provide us with plenty of depth, and great junior players ready to jump into the AHL to replace the guys who make the jump to the NHL... If we keep drafted good forwards in the upper rounds, and keep getting guys late or free like Tanev Stanton Hutton Subban Corrado, etc, we will have an endlesss supply of players coming up.. This Kesler trade is so crucial.. He's my favorite Canuck, but we have to make this deal and get a huge return on him.. We need to start repalcing our most declining players with young improving guys who are going to make us a better team every year, not every year get one year older and slightly worse
  12. Hope MG figures out a way to acquire both Schenn and Pouliot Kesler Schroeder 4th for Pouliot Sutter Bennett 1st 3rd Edler Sutter Gaunce 3rd for Schenn Morin 1st
  13. Still not enough.. Pittsburgh will give in on Derrick Pouliot and imo that alone accounts for more then Jenner and Wennberg.. Besides, doing that CBS deal signals giving up on the season 1.) Ownership wont allow it (Gotta keep rep of a team that goes for it every year 2.) Gillis doesnt have time to watch them develope He has the difficult task of improving the current teams chances, get younger, and add assets.. otherwise, he's out of a job... Only way to do that is to get overpayment on Kesler, and good value for picks/prospects like we did with Higgins and Lapierre, not Pahlsson Roy etc... Those examples show you what a difference a good/bad deadline deal makes Some options are: Kesler for Schenn Morin 1st, Sutter Pouliot 1st, Stepan, Miller, 1st Rental Garrison+prospect for RW who rotates w/ Burrows between Sedin/2nd line giving Torts more/different line combinations 2nd 3rd or 4th pick plus prospect for guys like Goc, Stempniak, Bergenheim, Meszaros, Mcginn, Stewart, Tlusty Give up barely anything, taking on a contract ressurecting a career Erat Leino Ruutu Bourque Clutterbuck Klesla Malone Take a big chance giving up a good player for a lower player, but higher potential ceiling like: Bailey, Grabner, Larsson Good examples: Ladd, Neal, J.Jokinen (for a pick), Vermette, Seguin Bad example: David Booth
  14. we could easily find way more ridiculous quotes from every single teams fans and post something that dumb.. We do have some real idiots that overrate our players heavily, and think that if you add a prospect and a 3rd, you can upgrade and get malkin stamkos or weber.. but, many many other teams fans hockey knowledge is retarded compared to ours.. the kesler orpik example you gave is a prime example.. my favorite comment is by a TV PLAY-BY-PLAY COMMENTATOR for the Washington Capitals saying we have these great young stars in Karl Alzner and Jeff Schultz, and some guy from Vancouver named Edler makes it to the All-Star game
  15. Thats the point, it was the first thing that popped up when you opened the page and u commented on it . You gotta be expecting something coming back your way if you're coming into a conversation late and calling someone out like that, and it turns out you just read something to quickly and didnt understand the sarcasm of post.. I completely agree with your comment regarding these fantasy hockey insider sources that people love to claim, but if you read the post(s) thoroughly (including the one I had quoted), you'd realize although yes your post was in fact justified, it was directed at the wrong person. We were stating the same point, just in different ways Oh, and yes, calling a post crap and putting them in a class lower then Eklund is definitely an insult
  16. I truly believe this year isnt an indication of the Sedins slowing down, just a bad year because they cant get a 3rd guy going on their line. But, we gotta assume the Sedins will in fact start slowing down for real in the next few years, so imo having 3 2nd/3rd line centre's in Hank Horvat and Couturier/Sutter wont work out so well in terms of offensive production, just some more 1-0 and 2-1 games.. therefore acquiring Schenn instead makes more sense to me (assuming he grows into the top line centre that I think he definitely can be). Other teams shutdown pairing will have to mark Schenn's line, allowing the Sedins to be the highest scoring 2nd line in hockey until they retire hopefully. That domino effect will then lessen the pressure on Horvat to produce big numbers.. Allowing a skilled shutdown centre like him to focus on his checking line dutires.. its especially nice if they could match the production of the opponents top line, just like Kesler and Burrows used to do Crosby Malkin Staal is a perfect example.. other teams like SJ, LA, CHI, BOS have that same luxury of getting production from 3-4 lines every night, not just 1 or 2
  17. Seems to me like everyone either says no to the Schenn proposals, or changes the subject and talks about Couturier Am I the only one who thinks Schenn is going to be a very high scoring 1st line player??? I'd love to get Schenn+prospect+1st.. Especially if we can squeeze Morin/Hagg/Leieir as one of the prospects
  18. So I take it you assume the Pens will actually beat us in the finals? Nah bro have some faith.. 4-0 sweep.. We'll end up with a 2nd, not two 1sts
  19. HOLY BATMAN!? no way dude, really? thats nutz man.. whats your source's name? U obviously can't say it to protect his identity id assume tho right?.. your so lucky to be the one chosen to pass down that crazy information to us.. thanks bro.. I wonder if Toews is part of the package too? We'd probably have to add a 3rd to even it out though probably right? You know what actually, i totally forgot to post this a couple days ago but a credible source of mine (cant reveal his identity either for security reasons), told me Canucks are closing in on deals with San Jose and Toronto for Adam Burish and Dave Bolland.. Exciting times ahead bud!! Can't wait to hear what other classified information he leaked out in your guys' conversation
  20. Kesler for Sutter Pouliot 1st 3rd 2nd 2015 if pitts wins east. 1st 2015 if they win cup --------------------------- Edler Sutter for Schenn Meszaros Those deals should give us decent amount of cap space to acquire a top 6 RW and 3rd line C We can use Picks+Prospects, Jason Garrison and Jordan Schroeder
  21. My personal preference, Is Brayden Schenn+whatever prospects/picks we can squeeze out of them.. They are stacked with assets they can add..I believe that the Flyers draft better than any NHL team, including the Red Wings.. I love Laughton but we can use this opportunity to stack up our other weak positions, like G, D, RW.. I like Sam Morin/Robert Hagg ot Taylor Lieir/Tye Mcginn I hear Meszarps is available cheap.. we can get him and then trade one of our dmen for a fwd After we deal Kesler and a dman, we can just grab a forward or two who are on the block for cheap and I think we can still put together a decent team for this season.. MG's bread and butter the Florida Panthers would be a good place to grab some.. Sean Bergenheim and Marcel Goc would be even better pick ups then Chris Higgins and Maxim Lapierre
  22. They wont deal Maatta or Neal so I'd say no matter how much quantity they give, we cant accept it unless they give up Pouliot.. Pitts cant match centre's Schenn/Couturier, Nyquist/Tatar, Johansen/Dubinsky, Stepan/Kreider, so they're gonna have to give up quality elsewhere, and thats Derrick Pouliot.. I'd also prefer to get Bennett over Sutter, and just acquire a rental centre like Marcel Goc for the season. Bennett Pouliot Gibbons/Doumolin/Harrington 1st 2014, conditonal 2015 2nd if they win east, 1st if they win cup If they wont give up Bennett, then along with Sutter I would demand: Tristan Jarry-looking like a future number one goalie) Teddy Blueger-Never seen the 2nd round pick play, but he's highly rated on hockey's future and looks to be their top offensive prospect atm. And he is Latvian so im sure the scouting staff has seen him play End of the day, Pittsburgh drafted poorly outside the 1st round, and sacrificed prime assets on deals for guys like Hossa, Iginla, etc... They will not be the front runner in the Kesler sweepstakes, thats for sure.. thats why they began they're negotiations very early
  23. I Dont think we can make a deal with them unless its a 3way deal.. Unless we can figure a way to get Neal, theyd need to package Sutter for a higher caliber forward to go along with Pouliot.. Call me crazy, but I'd rather have Pouliot over Maatta.. Higher ceiling IMO.. Puck moving offensive dman which we need, vs a steady poised dman which we obviously have.. Not suprised Maatta came into camp ready to go after playing lights out all the way to the Memorial Cup for London (best CHL organization) under coach Hunter
  24. unless you play in the nhl, im pretty sure Sutter has improved just a tad bit since u played against him.. People wont like this deal because we dont get a top young forward back, which is what we are looking for.. but Pitts doesnt have that, so they compromised with a future top pairing dman Sutter is a very good player.. PK specialist.. No, he's no Ryan Kesler with the puck, but he's solid.. better then Malhotra.. A sober GM would never deal Pouliot, but because Ryan Kesler is available, Olli Matta's play this year, and the Pens D prospects, stars alligned for a very rare opportunity to snag a stud... He and Anton Cederholm were arguably the top pairing in the CHL before Dumba came.. He was also Canada's WJC best dman, and has a good chance at winning a memorial Cup.. Likely an NHLer next season.. He'd be our best D prospect since Luc Bourdon.. He is the centrepiece in this deal, not sutter Don't get me wrong, Im a huge Kesler fan and I woulld still want more, but its a great start to negotiations when they go with Pouliot and not Despres right off the hop.. Its still early, and if Gillis waits until top teams acquire Vanek Gaborik Callahan Cammalleri etc, someone will overpay big.. Because they dont have a Ryan Johansen or Sean Couturier, Pitts will probably offer up the biggest package.. The offer could probably rise to Sutter Bennett Pouliot 1st.. so you are faced with a similar decision to "BPA at the draft, or take organizational needs"
