[Report] Tony DeAngelo suspended 2 games

Maybe, instead of a suspension, they just give Perry the chance for a roshambo. -
[Report] Tony DeAngelo suspended 2 games

Seems about right. I mean, considering who was speared. -
Same. I would have thought that AIlvin would have tried to move more players to strengthen their draft position, but once they traded for Hronek, it became clear that there was a different idea in mind. True. Oh man, Olli. Yikes! Same here. Getting the lottery luck for a change would be amazing, but it's also such a crapshoot. Hope springs eternal though. I'm still hoping to draft as high as possible, as I know it would benefit the team immensely.

There may be a host of other players traded after the season ends. Who knows. What should the organization do with Pettersson, Hughes, and Demko? Not a rhetorical question. Honestly asking. The way I see it, they have two decisions. Tear it down, which usually ends up with at least half a decade of mediocrity (at least by Vancouver standards) and trade away legit all stars like Pettersson, Hughes and Demko et al, as most likely their prime years will be wasted. Build around said players instead, through the draft, free agency and trades. The draft being the way to keep the talent pipeline filled, and if you draft high enough, possibly acquire an impact player (like Pettersson and Hughes) who transition right to the big club.

And you've been in a manager's board meeting for an NHL team? Please. Even if the decision is made to throw the season for the purposes of drafting high, the coaching staff will be informed of the overall trajectory. To say that the GM wouldn't advise the rest of the staff, especially the coaching staff makes no sense. Obviously, the decision is made in a boardroom in consultation with ownership, but to say that the staff that actively coaches players isn't involved doesn't make sense. The decision, yes. That being said, once that decision is made, and numerous players are traded away, like they've been in Chicago or Anaheim, I highly doubt that the true public face of the organization is left in the dark.

With the Hronek trade, that seems to be the case. Wasn't really a huge fan of the trade initially, but it might end up benefiting the team more than I realize, although the defense needs at least two more defensive defensemen to compliment Hughes and Hronek. Getting those through the draft won't quite line up with Pettersson, Hughes and Demko hitting their prime. Around the halfway mark of the season, most everyone was on board with tanking the rest of the way, and it seemed like a feasible "plan". Most fans are tired of the mediocrity that's plagued the team for years now and another high pick would potentially affect the team's future greatly. That all makes sense. Draft high and draft well. I'm not against that idea at all. Thing is, the team has to be on board. And the coaching staff, who would disseminate the idea to the team in hopes of getting them all to buy into the idea. Clearly neither the coaches nor the players are interested in it, based on how their playing lately. Perhaps if the trade for Hronek never happened, the team would have had a more lackadaisical approach to games, seeing that management was looking to accrue and use as many picks in the draft as they could. Seems that might not be the case anymore. I'm curious as to what the players would state that their playing for at this point in the season, and how they would look at the idea of tanking to enhance the roster.

And did the teams before these drafting years have players akin to what Petterson, Hughes and Demko are? Like Patrick Stefan? Or maybe Nail Yakpov? Right. That's your assumption that Pettersson and Hughes are "all the star power the Canucks need". A solid supporting cast is also required, but that's not mutually exclusive to drafting. Trades are also very commonly used to acquire impact players, believe it or not. Your myopic view of the situation clouds your judgment. Maybe ask yourself why the team is playing with such purpose now. Do you actually think that they're all trying to pretend that the season isn't a wash? Or maybe, just maybe, they actually want to win, and as Tocchet said, having that mentality will carry into the future. Perhaps the idea of tanking the season was brought to the team, and they refused because of pride. Is it the right decision? Who knows, but what motivates the players is far different than what motivates the fans. You will? Well, give yourself a pat on the back. You've earned it.

Some folks see what Chicago is doing and think that the Canucks should follow suit. Vancouver has been in a state of mediocrity for over a decade now, and for a while I was firmly on board with the team essentially throwing in the towel to see how low they could drop. The draw of drafting Bedard is strong when the team is shambolic. That being said, I've begin to realize that the Canucks also have a few truly remarkable players who are just entering their prime, and those players will want to improve and take on a larger role in the team, which fans are seeing happen right now. I'm pretty sure these players know that the remaining games are meaningless from a playoffs perspective, but something is still motivating them to play their asses off. That should be fostered and cultivated throughout the team.

The main reason the organization has struggled to build a winner is because of poor drafting (during the Gillis years), signing players who were past their prime to contracts that were way too high and far too long, and traded away picks for players who aren't long term core pieces (Miller might be, and so might Hronek). Stating that winning games when the playoffs are out of reach is the reason the organization has struggled to build a winner is laughable.

You think Pettersson and Hughes are interested in another year of missing them? I'm thinking AiLvin doesn't think so, or he wouldn't have traded for Hronek. -

The good may want to make the playoffs next year. The defense will need some definite work over the summer to ensure that it's competitive. Merely adding Hronek doesn't solve that. -

Bear is not the answer for Hughes. It smacks of another stopgap approach rather than bearing down and actually finding a way to get a legitimate, long term partner for Quinn. -

Signing Bear for anything more than 1 year at 1.5M is a bad idea. -

No need to rushing into signing a player before you need to, AILvin. It's not as if signing Bear is crucial to this team's future.
