  1. I think he might. If so, that's worrisome. As others have mentioned sign FAs as a stop gap for the time being. Neither Gardiner nor Myers are anywhere worth $7 X 7. While the Canucks are desperate to bolster the blueline, is this FA period really the ideal time to do so? Desperation rarely breeds sane decisions.
  2. Maybe he is. It would be the right plan. Beagle and Horvat provide enough veteran leadership that Balls can be traded. Although who's in the market?
  3. True. The approach is what I find palatable. Calmly managing the overhaul of the blueline without making silly offers in free agency which is usually a massive gongshow.
  4. The defense really should be primarily built through the draft, and Benning has a decent stable of Hughes, Juolevi, Woo, Rathbone, and Tryamkin (hopefully) to show for it. If Benning has the opportunity to trade for a solid foundational piece, he should. The FA period always seems to be where average players values are drastically inflated with this year seemingly no different. Fixing something quickly doesn't usually mean it's been adequate.
  5. Of course they do. Myers might help with that and might hinder that. It's not certain. Seeing as how nothing outside of a dinner has taken place, there's no telling what'll happen. I'm hopeful in any event that Benning remains cognizant of the needs he's laid out.
  6. Certainly. I could see some on the team wondering though. They’ve witnessed the debacle that is the Eriksson contract, and could see them drawing comparisons to Myers. That’s if it ends up happening.
  7. Yeah. I certainly hope so. Edler might be miffed to see Myers getting a huge contract after he took a pretty big haircut to show his allegiance.
  8. The term is what is the big deal here. Myers is getting term. That’s a given. Vancouver shouldn’t be the team giving him that term.
  9. Oh helllllllll no. He’s nowhere near worth that type of coin.
  10. True. Outside of being a terrifying piece of business physically, Chara has had great positioning and awareness.
  11. I don’t think so. Myers would need to be around 250 lbs in order for that to be a reality.
  12. Teams have to want what’s being offered. Can’t force a player on a team.
  13. Hopefully they’re getting space ready for Myers to sign long term. Oh sweet Gord, please!
  14. If only. Exactly. He's 29 and has had major surgery. Giving this guy a 7 year contract will be a bad idea.
  15. Please Gord, I hope it's Toronto or Winnipeg. Myers is not a top pairing defenseman in any shape or form. Any GM offering and paying him $8M a season, for more than a season or two, should be canned on the spot. Hell, even giving him $7M x 7 years is a horrible idea. Please Jim, do not get free agency fever again. It might cost you your job.
  16. I agree. They all bring far more consistency to their game.
  17. I'm all for any player that plays their heart out and supports their teammates. Virtanen has shown what he's capable of, and just needs to make it a consistent effort. He's got some scary speed and power. Goldobin also has the potential to be a difference maker, but it again comes down to consistency. If he can find that and maintain it, he'll be fine. I'm a fan of the Canucks, so I'm a fan of these two for sure.
  18. Stecher and Schenn were pretty reliable and consistent. Hughes was, for a five game stint, pretty exciting.
  19. The Leafs did a good job with the forward corps. They just pooped the bed on building an adequate defense. Dubas has a mountain to climb this off-season to fix it.
  20. I just don’t see how signing Myers will really bolster the defense. Certainly he’ll take on some heavy minutes and help spread out the TOI amongst d-men, which has been an issue that’s plagued this team for years. I struggle to see though how he’ll help the two most glaring inconsistencies with the defense being scoring and physicality. Maybe, if signed, he’ll relish taking on a greater role and become more than he is now.
