  1. Answering a question with questions...….hmmmmm………. Not really. Define fair. When talking about NHL FA contracts in 2019, fair might not be a great term. What do you think? Are there? That depends on each player, the team they play for, and where that team's cap restrictions are at. Paying Myers $7M at 7 years isn't surrounding the core. It's adding to it. No one is expecting a perfect solution, just one that doesn't hamstring this team in a few years.
  2. I didn't watch Winnipeg in the playoffs. Was his style of play effective? Were the players he was being physical with deterred by him? I know that when Byfuglien, Weber, Chara, and the like start getting aggressive, most players step back. Myers doesn't really strike me as imposing as any of them. Isn't Tanev on the block? I like the idea of Benning finding a player that can take some minutes off of Tanev, but Myers has struggled with injuries as well. Who else do you see, outside of Myers?
  3. The Canucks need some NHL ready defensemen to shore up the defense. They need durable players, who posses either the ability to move the puck and generate offense, or they need sizeable players who are physical and capable of playing a sound stay at home type of game, combined with the strength and willingness to clear the crease at all costs. Does Tyler Myers excel at any of these to the point where he becomes the team's highest paid player?
  4. Paying Myers the rumored $7-8M a season for 7 years to anchor the defense and provide size and grit is a massive overpayment. I can think of other d-men who provide more grit and similar size at a much cheaper cap hit, with Brenden Dillon being a prime example. While Dillon gives up 4 inches of height to Myers, he's nearly the same weight, and is far more physically imposing and aggressive. He's fully capable of standing up for his teammates and being a solid capable stay at home defenseman. He's left handed, so that's the main issue with Myers over him. And really, if Benning is going after players with size, shouldn't he be looking at players that have demonstrated a solid history of using that size? Myers' reputation in the league isn't based on being a physical force at all. He's tall. That's pretty much it. Any other player at his height, or near it, has, on average, another 20-30 lbs. of weight to back up that size (Chara, Byfuglien, Tryamkin). Giving a player like Myers the rumored salary and term stated recently, to just be a good defenseman is similar to giving Eriksson the money they did for him to be a good forward. It's looking eerily similar at this point.
  5. Defcon 4. Hahahahahahaha! Awesome. It's funny watching that team struggle to make everything work right now. I want Vancouver to avoid that cap crunch BS at all costs.
  6. While I'd love to be wrong, I don't think signing Tyler Myers is a good idea. He's an overpriced free agent who's looking for the biggest payday with the longest term. This smells a little bit of desperation, and could end up not working out very well.
  7. With players like Brenden Dillon available, and San Jose looking for cap space, I would think Benning would keep that avenue open.
  8. The Sharks boards wouldn’t happen to be anything like these boards, would they? He didn’t play entirely on the bottom pairing last season at all. If I’m not mistaken he was paired with Karlsson at times. Regardless, this team needs some size and power on the defense, and Dillon is a very large (6’4 226 lbs) defenseman who plays with an edge at all times. He’d be welcome here, I’m sure.
  9. Exactly. The time is now. Get rid of the deadweights and bring in some heavyweights.
  10. Certainly. They need Dillon’s cap hit off the books. Benning could offer a middling prospect as well. Players like Dillon would be instrumental in helping the young defensive core play with some confidence.
  11. Well, I’d like to think that Dillon would prefer to stay on the West Coast and maybe return to his hometown. Really though, he wouldn’t be going from a contender to an up and comer. I think there’s a good chance.
  12. The Sharks are reportedly hearing offers on Brendan Dillon. Hopefully Benning is showing interest, as he checks a lot of boxes. Replaces Schenn’s physicality and then some, cap hit of $3.27M, slots into the top four immediately. According to Kevin Kurz who covers the Sharks for the Athletic: As @SunGarrioch has reported, the Sharks could be willing to move Brenden Dillon and his $3.27 million salary cap hit in the right deal

  14. I think Hutton and Tanev will be playing for other teams this fall.
  15. That sucks. He should be a priority to sign.
  16. Shame that Schenn won’t be re-signed. Myers, while tall, isn’t the bulldozer Schenn is and won’t replace his physicality.
  17. I think some people are looking at Myers because he’s tall and assume that he’s going to provide a physical edge to his game. Yes, Myers is a better puck mover than Gudbranson, but he’s nowhere near as physically tough as Gudbranson is. That being said, Gudbranson didn’t bring that physical edge anywhere near enough during his time here. Schenn brings it far more consistently and is focused on defending the young core as much as the zone. The Canucks have two primary needs on defense, puck moving offense and stay at home size and aggression. Myers does neither very well and should be avoided, in my humble opinion
  18. Miller would be good. Zaitsev not at all. I’d rather Benning go for size in UFA. Chiarot would be a great depth signing. He’s more physical than Myers is, and hopefully Winnipeg re-signs him. Rather avoid giving a contract to middle of the road players like him and Gardiner. Not anywhere near worth it.
  19. Exactly. What the twerps on social media think mean absolutely nothing. They wouldn’t know what to do if they had the position.
  20. Yeah. I’m hoping that Benning bolsters the blueline with sizeable players this time around. Barrie is a very talented player, no doubt, but will be expecting a massive payday next summer, and will be 28. The defenseman I’d like to Jim to get out of Colorado is Zadorov. That is, if Tryamkin isn’t returning.
