  1. So settle for a slightly older, not so elite defenseman, and end up playing him $7-7.5 a year? If you're offering up the 2020 first round pick, make it count and get a core piece. We shall see.
  2. Still the move isn't really helping the Canucks out long term. Hughes is in the right age range. If Benning is going to offer up roster player and next year's first rounder, why not add to that and go after a defenseman who has offensive skill, size, and is in the same basic age range as Horvat and the like? Playoff experience is key, I agree. This team needs to get in sooner than later, but not at the behest of just getting in.
  3. Getting in is great, no doubt. But, you don't go into the ocean with a great white shark with a Buck knife hoping everything will be okay. You go in with a cage. Same for the playoffs, you go to war, and have the troops to fight that fight. I want the Canucks to get better, but I also want them to acquire a few more integral players through the draft, and giving away high picks is a dangerous premise when the player coming back falls outside of the median age of the core.
  4. If Benning was trading for Parayko, Jones, Provorov, or Ekbald, I'd be fine with a first rounder going the other way, as theire age falls in line with the core, and the addition of such a player would have an immediate impact. Barrie is simply not worth the risk.
  5. Nope. I'm Realistic Roger. You believe that a defense where Edler is the most physical player (at 33 years old) would make it through a playoff round? Well......lemme show you this bridge over here.
  6. Exactly....wait.....am I agreeing with you? The Canucks didn't have an answer for the physicality and the speed. They've addressed the speed somewhat adequately with the players being drafted, but the defense's only major physical weapon is 33 years old, and shouldn't have to be the sole physical presence. That's non-sensical and not fair to put that all on Edler…….again.
  7. A playoff team that would get their asses handed to them, yes.
  8. While I don't think it'll take five years before the Canucks get back into the playoffs, I agree that acquiring Barrie isn't ideal because of the age gap.
  9. The Cheap shot your way to the Cup method only happens when the league hires braindead officials to make a mockery of things. The two are synonymous.
  10. And if the Canucks get into the playoffs, how will the defense hold up if the only off season acquisition was Barrie? Anyone remember the last time the Canucks were in the playoffs and how they fared?
  11. They both possess great puck-moving talent from the back end. No argument there. Krug seems a little bit tougher than either though.
  12. Reaves would be ideal. Fingers crossed. Getting Miller would be great as well. Sensible moves that address needs that don't break the bank.
  13. Woo, in like 2-3 years Juolevi, while possessing size, is not an overtly physical player Tryamkin may never come back. So.... A 6M fourth liner who would need to be protected at the expansion draft?
  14. Exactly. Which doesn't make any sense, if he only offered Edler two years so that he could expose him to the draft, why should Lucic be exempt, and Edler not?
  15. Trading away Virtanen would mean that Benning would be looking for a physical forward to take his place. Hmmmm…….I wonder who he'd be looking at......
  16. That is true. It also means, that if the Canucks get into the playoffs and get the Blues in the first round, both Barrie and Hughes will get a game in each before getting injured.
  17. I know. The Blues blew a huge hole in the theory that so many have tried floating, that the league is becoming a speed and skill over size league. Benning's been talking about that and needs to deliver. He needs to give Elias, Brock, and Quinn some insulation, bodyguards that take their job seriously (hoping Schenn is back, as he took it very seriously). And trading for a player who is 27 and on the verge of being a UFA next season (and expecting a huge payday), by offering up a young promising player (both Virtanen and Stecher provide more pushback than Barrie ever could) and a 1st round pick is not smart.
