  1. The first 2 months of the season are an extended version of training camp hockey, December is where things get serious and the men get separated from the boys. I wouldn't pull the trigger on a management change, coaching change or roster reset just yet but I think by the end of this coming January that the organization as a whole will have had a fair chance to show progress. Tick tock......
  2. So we have a d-man with 40 games of NHL experience and he's played almost 60 minutes of the last 2 games. Dear god I hope we don't mess this kid up. On the bright side, at least our PP2 looks good
  3. I dont know what that girl behind Travis was eating....but it looked good
  4. I'm not a conspiracy theory guy but the amount of uncalled interference against us last night and tonight......
  5. I had to play hockey last night and couldn't watch the game so I tried a little experiment instead: I read the PGT when I got home from my game, slept on what the general CDC narrative seemed to be and then watched a replay of the game this morning. My conclusion? I don't think I should get my Canucks reports from game threads haha. Let's start with the first one- according to CDC, Virtanen on the first line was a tire fire and the only reason the Canucks pulled themselves back into the game was because TG pulled his head out of his butt and put the old lines back together. The reality- Jake played a total of 3-4 shifts only on the line and he didn't make a single mistake. Why do you think Travis put him there? He put him there because lately when Brock is on that line they have been spending entire 5V5 shifts getting physically dominated in their own zone (partially because of Petey's lack of strength but also because of Brock's lack of speed). When Jake is on that line the ice tilts the other way because opposing d-men wont pressure as hard when they know a big guy who can skate as well as Jake is on the ice, and the more time Petey and J.T. spend in the o-zone the better. Was it a really a success to put the old lines back together? For the rest of the game, the "lotto line" was a minus 5 without Jake while Gaudette's line (with Jake) became the best line on the ice hands down. The second takeaway I got from the GDT and PGT was that the Canucks played uninspired sluggish hockey in the first half of the game, but the reality was nothing of the sort. The Sharks came out hard last night (understandably so after a coach firing), they didn't allow the Canucks time on the puck in any zone, they were getting all the bounces and they were taking advantage of home-ice line mismatches. Frankly, the Canucks looked up for the challenge but the Sharks were just, well, better. If you want to lay blame anywhere, lay it on the powerplay because the back to back delay of game PP's we got in the first were completely squandered. Note to Newell Brown- tell the boys to move the puck more quickly if you don't want to get pressured out of the zone. This habit of holding onto the puck so long that the PK'ers get sticks in the lane and force guys to try to sauce pucks that bounce out of the zone is getting tired af. Anyways, sorry for rambling on, I don't usually get this long-winded but that was my read on the tilt. Oh, and one last thing- a pro tip for all NHL defencemen. If you see Tanner Pearson coming down the ice on a 2 on 1 (or any other time), don't play the pass.
  6. I'd like to see Brock with Bo and Josh. Leivo has shown he can play both sides and Pearson is a third liner imo
  7. Brock played well after being dropped down to Gaudette's line, he definitely earned his OT ice. Moving Jake up with Petey and Miller worked tactically as well, Jake doesn't have the hockey sense to play the possession game with those 2 but his speed creates so much room for them and they didn't seem to get stuck in the d zone like they do with Boeser.
  8. Ha, that Finnish guy is so nerdy but I bet you he can crush 2 bottles of vodka in a sitting. Never try to out-drink a Finn
  9. They may not be the youngest team in the league but they are still a group that is new to success. Learning to win is a step in the process, expecting to win is the goal.
  10. Did you guys expect anything else when we have a ceremony celebrating giving it to the refs before the game?
  11. That's probably how I would set the lines after the last game but I'd bet the farm that if Jake starts tonight it will be on the 4th line.
  12. Both calls were embellished but the interference call at least was 100% a penalty. Both times the penalties were taken in the offensive zone against a team with the number one power play in the NHL. Undisciplined plays that cost us the game and in all fairness should result in LE sitting in the press box on Tuesday.
  13. I was at the game last night, drunk af and lovin every minute of the experience. Not to take anything away from a solid, disciplined effort last night but Smith wasn't very good. Always nice to see lots of happy Canuck fans in soilerville and cheers to the group of guys in the upper bowl standing and singing Hey-hey-goodbye, classic.
  14. I was almost more impressed with the way AV had the Flyers playing than not Impressed with the way we were playing last night (if that makes any sense). They kept us to the outside real well, for long stretches our only efforts were meaningless point shots that couldn't get through traffic. I think Philly is in for some good years with a pretty good group of young players and AV at the helm.
  15. Can't believe Leivo didn't bury that. Actually, yes I can.
