  1. I loved the fact JV had some snarl last night. 3 or 4 different times I saw him put kings on their ass, not to mention backing Troy up. Its difficult to be noticeable for the right reasons playing with Beagle and Schaller but he will get more opportunity from Green playing like that.
  2. It's a little early to cry "the sky is falling" just yet. There's a lot of new blood, the chemistry will take some time. Pre-season wasn't a lost opportunity, it's pretty much just an opportunity to injure your stars playing against AHL try-hards who will never get a sniff. Patience will be key for these first couple of weeks, let the roster shake itself out. Petey will come good and god awful experiments like playing Leivo on PP1 will end. Getting Gaudette in the lineup was a good first step but he needs to see more ice, his level of intensity is infectious. Roll on to the next one.
  3. That'll be after the lineup is announced. I can't imagine what will happen if we lose.
  4. Agreed, the game needs more characters. Speaking of characters, I wonder if it was Turco that taught him to handle the puck so well when he was at Dallas
  5. I see the narrative du jour is the lack of offense from the "bottom 6". Well, you better pace yourselves if that is what you think the problem is because as long as Sutter and Beagle are the 3rd and 4th line centers those lines will struggle to produce offence consistently. Schaller, LE, Jake and Leivo are not the reason we have a lack of offense in our bottom 6, the fact we have 2 centers that have limited play making ability is. And for the record, even though Gaudette had a nice camp he has yet to show that he can produce in either the 3c or 4c slot when the games matter, yet. Hopefully when Adam gets his chance he can force management's hand on Beagle or Sutter because we have redundancy there imo.
  6. Sucks losing and giving up a lead but there were lots of promising signs tonight. Second line looks ominously good and you just know Petey will hit his stride. Just need a couple of tweaks like getting Leivo off PP1 and new guys getting used to playing with each other for reals.
  7. I thought Jake was on Beagle's line for pretty much the whole game?
  8. Happy that real hockey is back but It's slightly deflating to have to watch a team coached by Dave Tippett.
  9. That's just as much an argument to waive Loui as it is to keep him
  10. Sven doesn't deserve that (if true) but I think his salary would preclude anybody but a cap floor team from claiming him so maybe there is a method to the madness.
  11. Born in Vernon, grew up on the island. Must have done something wrong in a previous life because I live in Edmonton now.
  12. I cant agree with the suggestion that Brock owns responsibility for turning his back to the play. 5v5 you may be right but he was on the PP. Tierney takes himself out of position with that play and I don't think it's reasonable for Brock to expect it.
  13. I wish. Getting tired of working for a living
  14. C'mon millennials, not all criticism is "hate". I'm a huge fan of Jake but he's merely hinted at being a consistently impactful player so far. I love the fact that every time he steps on the ice he has the potential to blow somebody up or steal the puck and go all the way (an increasingly rare ability in today's high skill NHL), but it is infuriating to watch him disappear for periods/games at a time. He'd go a long way towards pacifying critics of his game if he merely found some increased level of intensity/compete/desperation. It's a big year for Jake, I hope this is the year the light bulb comes on.
  15. Guess he couldn't stand the thought of going a whole season without being able to stick his ass in Bobby Lou's face........
  16. I'm curious to know what you think groins are made out of
  17. Not sure if there is, it was funny listening to the Flames announcers eat some crow when it happened. Iginla was terrifying when he was engaged physically, I don't think Jake has that in his DNA but he should be using his size more to his advantage.
  18. There was nothing remarkable about any of the Canucks players through the first 2 periods in Calgary. Jake was on the ice for both Calgary goals but Bachman and Beagle were the goats on those plays. The Canucks as a whole didnt see much of the puck in the first 2 periods but Jake looked good playing on the PP. It was in the third when Giordano tried to step up on Jake (and got reverse kronwalled) that Jake really woke up and started to assert himself. At the end of the day, if a guy scores the tying goal and the winner in OT he deserves a little tire pumping.
  19. That Calgary feed had to be one of the most painful game experiences I have ever endured. Thanks for making it somewhat worth it Jake
  20. Given your username, that would be motherpucker?
  21. I don't think an assistant coach tips the balance for Russian players, it has more to do with life and community outside the rink. A great example is Panarin (and other Russians before him) wanting to go to the tri-state area because there are apparently 1.6 million Russian Americans living there, it's a veritable home away from home.
