  1. I feel like flame fans would have loved to have had Lucic in the playoffs last year. Too bad they are about to find out that he's a luxury that few can afford in the regular season.
  2. I always get this wrong so lets try a little reverse prognostication- The Canucks will finish dead last this year.
  3. Jacob's numbers are very similar for the last two seasons, I don't see his play last year being the outlier that many on here claim it was.
  4. There's no guarantees, that's why they play the games. We could just as easily regress this year, and with league parity so could 3 or 4 teams that people think are locks for the post season right now. If Pettersson and other core players stay healthy, Markstrom continues to flourish under Clark and this years acquisitions bring similar historical production to the group then I think it's safe to say that the team will be in the hunt for a playoff spot come spring. I don't think anyone is guaranteeing more than that.
  5. Great point. I honestly feel this is just a regurgitation of the talking heads on TSN trade center yesterday morning. McGuire, Poulin, Ferraro and the "O-dog" can't figure out what the Canucks are doing- that feels more like a vote of confidence than a cause for alarm to me.
  6. Dzingel will get somewhere around twice that amount
  7. "A native of Thief River, Minnesota" hopefully can steal a few games for us one day......
  8. Is any player really worth not having a first round pick for 4 years? Craziness
  9. Brendan Gaunce? You think Benning could have got something for the guy who went 94 straight games without scoring and cleared waivers without being claimed? That's a laugh.
  10. I wouldn't mind Myers here but he's no more than a second pairing D-man at best. 6M x 5 is the max I would pay (and term) or I would walk away from the deal.
  11. I don't understand this. Can you give me one example of a contract that JB signed somebody to that he then had to buy the player out from it?
  12. If Hutton was going to be pushed down to the third pairing anyways, then we'd be better off saying goodbye and going with Sautner at a third of the cost.
  13. Too late, he already retired.
  14. Depends how much ice he gets as an 18 year old in the KHL. The first benchmark that really interests me will be his upcoming performance in the next WJC.
  15. I'd love to get Barrie but any potential move shouldn't cost a first round pick until we are a true contender. It's ludicrous for a lottery pick team to be dealing their first round pick unless they have extras.
  16. I've got no issues with big contracts for players who filled the net on their elc's. Some of them are ridiculously underpaid for their production (relative to their peers) and their second contracts should reflect that.
  17. I live in Edmonton and his name comes up once in a while on Jason Gregor's show on tsn. Pretty high praise for such a young kid.
  18. Woo probably won't be but wouldn't Hughes have to be protected? He will have played 2 full seasons when the draft is held.
  19. If this deal comes at the cost of losing a good young player in the expansion draft because we have to protect Milan, then the price is too high. If we want to get out from under Loui, then buy him out. If we feel the need to sign a tough guy then go sign one for cheap, they are a dime a dozen these days.
  20. Sports reporting has (and frankly always has had) the ethical standards of entertainment reporting. If you ever thought otherwise, you deserve the disappointment that's eventually coming your way.
  21. Love him or hate him, as primarily a Canuck-focused media personality he was (in a way) one of us. Condolences to his family
  22. When you intentionally throw a season in order to "win" the first overall pick, the karma that's coming your way is a bitch. Unless you're Pittsburgh of course.
  23. Like it or not, Benning gets credit for draft successes (and failures) by virtue of hiring Brackett and assembling the amateur staff. However, I fully agree that even you could have mismanaged the team into lottery contention and nobody would call you a genius
