  1. It's a bit of a leap to think that Melnyk is some kind of genius after seeing what a $&!# show that franchise has been since the '17 conference finals. If you haven't seen it before check out an epic twitter thread about it here:
  2. It doesn't get more expensive, it's 8 million regardless of when he quits. It just gets divided by the amount of years he has left. 8 big ones all in one shot hurts though.
  3. I think he's referring to the smaller share of the re-capture that Florida is on the hook for
  4. I was stoked when we got Guddy from Florida but he never lived up to what I thought he would be. Going to miss his physical presence but not really going to miss his minus nights. Hope he has a good playoff run in Pitt
  5. I dont know if he was in concussion protocol last night after that Getzlaf hit, but he sure didn't look the same afterwards.
  6. Jake has hit the point in his career where production is an expectation. I've been giving him a bit of a pass lately because he's been on the shutdown line with the offensive black hole Sutter, but Jake is getting a message that he is expected to produce now, up and down the lineup. Here's hoping Jake takes the required next step
  7. He's actually been one of our better players on this trip but his lack of finish has been glaring lately. Hopefully some rest this week will allow him (and a few others) to hit the reset button.
  8. He has elite speed (made even more impressive considering his size) and an elite shot (speed and strength, not accuracy). His hands are also better than average and getting better. What Jake lacks is creativity and as a result it's difficult to play him with more cerebral players like Petey and Brock. But when you take into consideration his 2 plus skills with his obvious durability and ever emerging physicality it's not hard to see why people are getting excited about where he could top out at.
  9. Jimmy, the only thing Albertan's (or residents of BC for that matter) are responsible for is whipping each other up in a froth on internet forums and news comment sections (bolded section, case in point). This is already about taxation, just in a different form. Realistically, the Provincial NDP in Alberta and federal liberals shouldn't want these pipelines, they go against everything they claim to stand for, but the taxes raised off the sales of these products are virtually irreplaceable. Look at the proof- the Horgan government claims to champion the environment in squashing the KM expansion but trips all over themselves to push through a hydrocarbon pump station in an equally environmentally sensitive area like Kitimat. Are they shipping that LNG out with air balloons instead of tankers? This is all about the pie and who gets a piece of it, environment or "economic diversification" bedamned. And you can bet your bottom dollar that as soon as the natives and Horgan's crew figure they are getting a fair piece of it, that pipeline will get built.
  10. 100%. put Roussel on the other wing and let the chaos unfold.
  11. Going back to last season, in Jake's last 20 games he's scored 7 goals and has 10 points.I don't think he'll maintain that pace (especially the goals) but he is trending in the right direction.
  12. I suck at this every year but no sense stopping now. The boys are going to struggle through the first half of the year as a Sedin sized hole in the lineup just can't be filled. 21 points in the first 41 games. Back half of the season sees them finally realize that nobody can save them but themselves. 40 points in the last 41 games for 62 points total and neck and neck with the Sens for bottom of the league. 2nd overall pick after the lottery because that's as high as we will ever draft.
  13. No, Virt started on the fourth but played the last 2 periods with Archie and Sutter
  14. Meh, I'm merely making an observation as to what player he reminds me of. I think at 24 years old we know what he is already.
  15. He reminds me (yes I'm old) of Tony Tanti. He's not very fast, big or physical, but he has exceptional instincts in the o-zone and great hands.
  16. Agreed, I don't remember Henrik publicly dressing down Edler after his transgressions
  17. Jake is a tough one to figure out. It's obvious to anybody who's played the game that his skating (which is truly exceptional) and size (a so-far unrealized asset) make Jake what Benning called "potentially a truly unique player" if he puts it all together. The problem is he has no consistency in his game and as a result Green doesn't feel he can rely on him. One night he shows up against Tampa and hits every thing that moves and then the next night he's avoiding hits and looks like he can't get the puck off his stick fast enough. Is Green a little heavy handed in his treatment of Jake? Maybe a little. Are the twins the appropriate mentors for his game? Doubtfully, they couldn't be more different as players and I think that ship sailed when they threw him under the bus after the Polak hit. I think what Jake really suffers from is a lack of an appropriate mentor in a teammate, somebody to model his game after. Problem is, we don't have that type of player to teach Jake what we want him to be and from what I've seen of Jake so far I don't think he's got the hockey I.Q. to figure it out by himself.
  18. This guy needs to play with Horvat. The speed with which these two attack defensemen would make them crap their (hockey)pants.
  19. He was one of the better Canucks last night. People love to complain about him taking wrist shots instead of dangling on the goaltender but they fail to take into account that he manufactures almost all of his chances singlehandedly, sometimes even carrying the puck all the way from below his own goal line. Give him some time, (and more minutes) he'll eventually get comfortable at this level and figure out what he needs to do to score on NHL goaltenders. When he does, 30+ goals per is not out of the question.
  20. I could see Ottawa making a play for Guddy at the deadline/offseason. They are in win-now mode and he's a local boy too. Do they have any more Dahlen's hiding in their system?
  21. That might not be a bad idea, he's certainly got the pace to make up for any mistakes he could make as the last guy back. I'm kind of in two minds about him playing with the twins. However painful it may be to watch him try to process the game the way Henrik and Danny play it I think there is some value in the time he spends with them on the bench (and there's been no shortage of that) and when practicing. I think it will make him a better player in the long run.
  22. Not surprised to see the magic man at the top of that list, dude had sick hands
  23. He's got a great shot when he plays the point on the PP. Reminds me of a modern day Reijo Ruotsalainen
  24. Was one of the best soldiers I've had the pleasure to watch in Canuck colors, right up to the end. Thanks Alex.
