  1. Some good points there Baum, except being a "bottom six" guy with the Canucks doesn't mean what it used to under previous coaching. Plenty of ice time to be had on any of the 3 "not first" lines the team seems to play.
  2. depends on your interpretation I guess. Good hockey sense to me was to always be where the coach wants you to be without the puck, and that can be taught.
  3. Best case would be the AHL and learning from Green again but that can't happen due to his age. Maybe he'll get traded to a memorial cup contender next year.
  4. I played golf last week with a guy who scouts the dub for the Lightning now but did midget interviews with Jake when he was scouting for the Hitmen a few years back. He had a few interesting points to bring up about Jake, some stuff that everybody already knows (great family, elite level tools in the box), but the observation he brought up to me that was most interesting to me was in regards to peoples concern that Jake lacks "hockey sense". He figures Jake has just been the victim of bad coaching- when he went to watch him play in Midget, Jake's' team didn't even run a structured power play, they would just give the puck to Jake up high, he would go through 2 people and go bar down- It was almost impossible to predict what kind of player he could be at a higher level. Now, I haven't watched any Hitmen games so I can't comment on what kind of coaching he's had since then but I've seen a few comments on this board that they aren't happy with the way he's being handled there either. Regardless, this guy figures Jake just needs some time and some proper coaching and we are going to have a beast of a player on our hands.
  5. I actually agree with your comments here James but the only thing that makes me question that position is that I thought the exact same thing about Bo Horvat last year. And Bo being a center had an even steeper learning curve to adjust to.
  6. Actually Desi, that's a massive fail by the defenseman there. Any decent NHL d-man will never give a player the inside on his forehand. If Jake is coming down the right wing going to the outside on his forehand is the right play. You usually will never get the inside until you can show a d-man that you can beat him on the outside first as well.
  7. Frantisek Kucera. oops, late to the party
  8. Thanks for the highlights 1219, Jake looked pretty good there. He still looks like he gets out of position in his own end a little but for a first professional hockey game against grown men he didn't look out of place at all.
  9. The second line needs Vrbata`s skill more than they need Burrows. The Sedins need Burrows speed and willingness to go to the dirty areas more than they need Vrbata. I could care less if Vrbata signed here to play with the Sedins or not, these moves just make good hockey sense.
  10. He was average last night at best imo. I didn't see Hutton showing himself to be capable of cracking the Canucks lineup anytime soon and frankly, unless he's holding back he would be hard pressed to crack the Comets roster too. His skating looks decent and he`s got decent size but his puck handling skills are so-so and he was not very impressive in his own end- I did notice his coach never plays him short-handed. Granted, I`m not going to write the kid off after only watching him once but I was expecting more. Hopefully it was just an off night for him.
  11. He's playing. been on both PP's so far. Number 10 I believe
  12. Wow, I checked in and starting worrying that I had just come out of a worm hole and Gaunce was 26 years old.
  13. Virtanen makes the game look easy but he plays with the kind of edge that will make him a target for international referees. Absolute beast at this level though, he makes winning puck battles look like a cake walk.
  14. This was my first thought (and I'm a Steelers fan), but it turns out he's right, Pittsburgh has been named U.S.'s most livable city repeatedly by Forbes for a few years now.
  15. I'm guessing you've never heard of the phrase "mustache rides" ?
  16. Seems like a nice guy and I wish him well, but I'm not going to miss him wearing our colors. And this talk of him scoring 20-30 goals next year ? I'd be surprised to see him get that many more in his career (hope he does, but I'm not holding my breath).
  17. You know nuckster, when I first read your OP I was a little on board because I thought you were referencing comments regarding Kes's personal life in the forum, but I can see now that isn't the only case. Rumors/conjecture regarding players "effect in the room" or their dealings with management / agents / contracts probably make up more than 50% of hockey fans discussion on this and every other NHL forum on the internet- you don't have to like them but they are here to stay and are hardly worth the effort you've put into this. If you are 33 years old you may not remember when Linden got traded or when Pavel turned his back on the team, but you are certainly old enough to remember Bertuzzi cashing it in. You can't get too wrapped up or emotionally involved with the name on the back of the jersey, the only one that counts is the one on the front.
  18. That post was before the presser so I still had some doubts at the time, thankfully it does sound like Benning is pretty high on Bo.
  19. To be fair to guys like Jim and Trevor, they grew up playing in an age when Boston and Vancouver had a pretty good relationship with each other. I thought it was pretty classy of Neely to let Jim come to us as soon as the season ended as well, probably feels a little guilt over how we got fleeced with Pederson lol.
  20. It's all good man. At the end of the day we both want to see him succeed. And nice to hear Benning having some positive things to say about Bo today as well.
  21. Uh, yes killer. As the entire last line of my original post that you quoted states- I certainly do hope we keep Bo. I'm just raising the point that when you change 75 % of the management/coaching structure of a franchise that changes in player personnel are soon to follow. Out of all of our players Bo is right up there with Kesler as having the most trade value, would you not agree ? Anyways, lets hope Benning and Linden see him as part of our future and not as trade bait to obtain a player to get us in the playoffs this year.
  22. You'd be hard pressed to find a leafs fan who wouldn't take Komarov back in a heartbeat, he's a great role player.
  23. I have to agree with you on this . If this is the guy Benning wants there's gotta be good reasons for it. He's a Harvard educated ex-hockey player and the fact that he even had the balls to take the GM position with the Magic coming from a hockey background says a lot about the guy. If he is the guy that found Gaudreau for the lames then he's definitely got an eye for talent as well.
  24. Semantics. His inference is we don't know whether or not Benning would have taken him if he was our GM at the time, and we had the ninth pick. Listen, I have no desire to get rid of Bo Horvat, I think he's got a bright future. But the Canucks have just fired and replaced their G.M, hired a new president, fired it's coach and one of the assistants, and is possibly replacing another assistant GM all in the span of 2 months. There is not a single player at any level of this organization who is not named Sedin (and you could argue the merits of that as well) who is not at risk of being moved right now.
  25. I never said it did or didn't matter. I said the possibility exists that a new G.M. could move our prospects to get "his kind" of players because we don't have a lot of other trade-able assets. My pontificating could just as easily be supported by your argument too- how do you know Benning would have taken Bo Horvat at the 9th pick if he had the chance ?
