  1. The CHL playoffs and resulting Memorial cup still to finish / play, possible injuries between now and the draft, player interviews and the draft combine still to go. There might even be pre-draft personnel moves by Trev looking to make a statement. At this point its impossible to say who is going to be available to us at number 6, I'd give it more than 50 % that one of the players who is a consensus top 5 right now will be there for us.
  2. Dual Canadian and Finnish citizen, his father was born there
  3. Please, no deals for Yakupov thank you very much- the kid looks un-coachable (I live in Edm. so am constantly subjected to their games). What's the general consensus regarding taking Perlini at 6-7 ?
  4. Maybe after Torts is finished wringing that mentality out of the players he can get work as a Mod and whip the CDC'ers in shape, get everybody blocking posts and posting more defensibly......
  5. Excellent points made here. The team may have been in decline since 2011 but Torts has to bear the responsibility for the way he used the assets at his disposal. Watching the Sedins trying to block shots on the PK was absolutely cringe-worthy. And if I was FA, those cheques he's been cutting over the last 2 years would have me fuming, and with a potential Booth buyout and Torts send-off... the more I think about it GMMG had a lot to answer for. Back to the point of the thread though, Benning spent some time here as a player but other than that he has no real connection with Van or B.C.(he lives in Oregon, even now while he works for the Bruins) Does anybody really feel he would even want to go to Van other than for the professional challenge ? Maybe we aren't the only team considering an offer (Buffalo is looking for a GM too and he was their director of scouting previously) (my bad I forgot about Murray getting hired in Buffalo)
  6. I was thinking the same myself. Maybe he's still too sick and they are letting him rest up for the Mem. cup
  7. Different experiences I guess. I've been in Edmonton 7 years now, played on numerous hockey teams almost exclusively made up of oilers fans (as one could guess) and generally find people in the Chuck to be pretty jovial and up for good natured banter at the games and elsewhere. In a bar I wouldn't expect anything different, same crap goes on in Vancouver when another Canadian team loses as well, there's always going to be yahoos in the bars. We just don't have the playoff history with the oil that we do with the lames so I don't see the hatred as much. One could also say we haven't been the most "loved" team in any out of town market for a number of years (judging by the amount of most hated team / fans articles I see every year), a crying shame really, I don't get how anyone could dislike the Sedins (other than our own fans after they signed their recent "thank's for the memories" deals.
  8. If that were the case I would too. Let the flamers come by their name honestly
  9. I live in Edmonton now and have lived in Calgary before. Oilers fans aren't too bad, they just don't have a lot of sympathy for our struggles this year after what they have had to suffer through. Every time I go cheer the Canucks on at Rexall (going tonight again) they are pretty good natured about having some banter. Calgary fans on the other hand, are absolutely poisonous when it comes to anything Vancouver, not just about the Canucks. I wouldn't cross the road to pee on a flames fan if they were on fire.
  10. Linden for president or GM with no front office hockey experience ? Smells like a bone being thrown to the STH to me. Would love Trevor to have a role with the team but he needs to be in an assistant position until he learns the ropes- long term his hiring could be a master stroke as a face of the franchise but it would break my heart if it turns out like it has for Lowe in Edmonton.
  11. He was fired for that abomination of a goat he's been sporting lol. Seriously, MG (like every other GM) had his good points and bad points. You do have to wonder if there really was some resentment among his colleagues due to his history as a players agent, there never seemed to be any players when we needed to make moves (something to keep in mind as Trevor used to be president of the NHLPA). I don't think you can hang the "he lost the best goal-tending tandem for nothing" only on his mantle- there definitely were mitigating factors. Luongo's contract looked like a masterstroke at the time given his status in the game but the "goalposts moved" and the Canucks were punished for trying to circumvent the spirit of the CBA. That lead to his untradeability (coupled with Luongo's diminishing play) so moving Cory was the only option. Could we have gotten more, sure, but at that point we were trading from a position of weakness (and personally I don't think Schneider is that great of a goalie, he looked better when he had Luongo to cover his back- like every other goalie we had while Lu was here). At the end of the day Lu would still be here if Nutarella hadn't decided to bench him for the classic- so that one also hangs on Torts. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a MG fanboy trying to defend the guy (in general I really couldn't care less about management, out of sight, out of mind is better in my opinion), but I think people are a bit off base chasing him out of town with pitchforks (chanting fire Gillis at a hockey game, really ?). There has been a gradual downturn since the 2011 finals but the biggest drop has been only this year- and the only thing that changed this year was the coach.
  12. with you on this one, the Feaster part anyways. Nicholson I am ambivalent about, just anyone except Feaster.
  13. I don't mind what Hansen brings to the team, but if I had to choose which bottom 9 forward to replace with youth next year it would probably be him. He doesn't put up (or have the potential to put up) big enough numbers for the top six and he's not physically big enough for a bottom six role. I can't help but pull for the guy though, seems so damn likeable.
  14. If we ever get rid of this guy, I hope it's to a team we rarely play against because he doesn't seem to take to kindly to teams who give up on him lol
  15. Game is on pace for 15 total shots on net and 90 blocks. Compelling stuff, almost as much fun as watching paint dry.
  16. Comic gold. You almost made me choke to death on my sandwich.
  17. Ya, that baby and MG's hideous goat need to get a room together. Maybe their offspring could be easier on the eyes
  18. if Bill Laforge was still with us he might have something to say about that
  19. Like the Anaheim game, I'm going to force myself to watch this one to the end.................anyone got a number for a self-flagellation hotline ?
  20. I know they typically don't have the size of the Canadian kids, but we definitely should be looking at drafting some of those kids off of the Finnish junior team. They won the gold with like 12 un-drafted players, and its never a bad idea to draft winners.
  21. I have high hopes for him as well, but he's going to have to improve his face off numbers drastically to even come close to bringing what Manny brought to the team.
  22. Very funny and hard to argue with unfortunately. At this point I would rather we bring up another barbarian from Utica, put him on a line with Sestito and Archibald and have Torts "release the hounds". At least watching the Canucks play might be interesting again for a shift or 2 every night.
  23. I think so too. Hell, he's scored more goals in the month of March than the Canucks have.
