  1. Another thing I find extremely strange about how all of this has gone down- in December when we won like 10 out of 12 games, Torts had almost nothing good to say about the team, he wasn't satisfied with any of our wins, "they were not playing the game the right way". Then in January, before he was suspended, the team started losing and he declared that they were finally "getting it". So he's happy to lose as long as long as the players are playing "his" way ? I get the fact that at the end of the day the results are going to hang around his neck, it's the same for any coach and I'm sure that behind the scenes AV was no different. But for Christ's sake show a little adaptability and try to play to the strengths of the players you have. You never know, you might actually score a goal or heaven forbid, maybe even 2 sometimes.
  2. I don't buy that every single Canucks player has simultaneously been afflicted with the worst scoring slump of their careers. Congrats Torts, you have successfully coached all of the offensive abilities out of our team.
  3. Today / tomorrow is going to be huge when people look back on MG's tenure. Are there more shocks in store ? One thing I do know for sure, after watching him get interviewed by Murph tonight during the first period intermission, is that he is rocking probably the worst goatee I have seen in a very long time. How does his wife let him go outside like that ?
  4. Yup, Kirk was a beauty in his day, its so easy to forget how good he was. Only reason why I think Luongo was better is because he was an elite level goatender at a time when there was/is probably 20-25 world class goaltenders in the NHL. I can only think of a handful in the league when McLean was nominated.
  5. Here's the Luongo link, SN was playing it back to back with the Kesler "trade request denial" interview last week. Thought it was pretty funny myself. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/luongo-kesler-staying-whether-he-wants-to-or-not/
  6. So true. Poor guys head isn't right atm. He will always be a legend for some of his big goals, but I'm seriously starting to wonder if there's a way out of this funk for him.
  7. They prefer Gene Principe's humour in the Chuck, so they had to put him somewhere I guess
  8. We were a better team, but definitely not a tougher team. Did you watch the SCF in 11 ? Our players were getting speed-bagged by smurfs. Our high end skill players are Euros, not Canadian kids like Toews and Crosby that seem to find another level when players try to intimidate them out of their games. Including our exit in the 2011 finals you could say the last three play-off exits have all been a result of physical damage imposed on our skill guys. Keith damaged Daniel in the regular season but he was effectively done for the year. Brown's hit on Henrik effectively ended that series as well. Brown's hit was legal, but it was interesting that all the talk then was how the Canucks dropped the ball for their lack of a response to it. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
  9. You make some decent points, but I don't think Torts did not want to start the Sedins because of the risk of them getting in a fight. He didn't want to start them because Henrik was injured already - it didn't make sense to play them against their smash and bang line. Otherwise, if the twins are healthy, that's a match-up a coach could only drool over. His hallway antics were over the top and he was punished accordingly. Hartley wanted to set the tone for the game with his opening line-up and the Canucks answered the bell (rightly or wrongly it's just a matter of opinion. It's still allowed in the game so I've got no problems with it). That being said, I would much rather watch a good, high skilled, clean hard-hitting game between your Hawks and our Canucks any day of the week than a fight filled game against the no talent Lames.
  10. mckenzie has his cell phone with him on thats hockey live on TSN right now. Canucks and Torts both know the suspension already, but nothing has been released yet- its all conjecture right now.
  11. Fair enough. ( I edited my response after I took the bait ). But the reality is Torts is only reacting to the rules of the game, written or otherwise, as they exist today. We have all watched this team get pushed around since the SCF in 11 and frankly I'm loving the response. Do I feel bad for guys like Sestito possibly developing long term health problems as a result of his endeavors on behalf of the team ? Sure . But he's also making huge money to do it and it's his job- nobody's holding a gun to his head and forcing him. The idea is to set the bar to discourage other teams from taking liberties and hopefully he has to do it less in the future.
  12. Oh, I'm sorry. I thought the title of the OP was "collective feeling on Tort's antics ?" not " does fighting have a place in todays NHL ?". But you are right, Hank is still down. As a result of being crosschecked by Hanzal. Exactly the kind of crap we will see more of the day they take fighting out of the game.
  13. i thought the whole spectacle was hilarious, entertaining and mildly ridiculous, exactly what a guy should hope for when he sits down to watch an evening of entertainment. No-one got hurt, so what's the big deal ? I get a huge kick out of the fact that pundits and fans alike are passing judgement on this like it actually matters. Big bold statements like "it damages the game" or "reflects badly on our organization" are being thrown around. Give me a break. This isn't Cancer, It's not war or famine for Christ's sake. It's hockey and for the first time in a long time a Calgary-Vancouver game was interesting again.
  14. brilliant game last night, best I've ever seen him play. We need him to be an enforcer and to justify top 6 minutes, exactly what he did against the flames.
  15. First period shenanigans are going to net both Torts and Hartley a fine, does not matter who gets what. Torts little walk in the park however will definitely get him a suspension, probably 5-8 games. I`ve got no problems with Torts actions in either case, at the end of the day NHL hockey is just entertainment. All the pundits and fans who are going over the top in their assessments of this talking about how it`s "dragging the Canucks name through the mud", or "we have to get this out of the game" are talking out of their you-know-whats. NHL hockey is sometimes beautiful, sometimes brutal and sometimes ridiculous. Has been forever and always will be. If you don't like it go watch figure skating. Watching Stock blow a gasket last night was laughable, like that fool somehow thinks he has the moral high ground to get emotionally invested in the proceedings. Torts walked down the hallway to confront a coach he doesn't like, big deal, no-one got hurt. What was your reaction to Chara's attempted decapitation of Pacioretty, Stock ? Whatta goof.
  16. If you asked me a year ago if Schroeder could be a legitimate second liner someday I would have said no chance. However, it looked like he had made some real progress this pre-season and I think he's exactly the type of guy who could flourish under a coach like Torts who dishes out positive re-enforcement when a player has earned it.
  17. So Burrows is back in tonight with full-facial protection ? Feel sorry for him, I had to wear one for a couple of games after I wobbled a couple of chic-lets and I hated it. No finger foods for him tonight I guess ! Looking forward to seeing how Lain stacks up against NHL players as well. I think 2C is the only way he's ever going to have a future with this team IMO, but it's not going to take Henrik going down, it's going to take moving Kesler to his wing which is what I think Torts wants to do.
  18. He looks like a much better skater on the north american size ice. Maybe it's just his comfort level. His quick hands and thinking are much more of an asset in the tight quarters of the smaller surface as well.
  19. A little over the top to say he "simply isn't smart enough". I can't argue with his lack of form over the last 2 years however. It seems to be a crisis of confidence as much as anything. He's only had 27 games under tort's system so I think its more than fair to still play that card, but if he can't find his way by the end of the season you'd have to think that the writings on the wall.
  20. I don't advocate cheap or dirty hockey, but if the opportunity exists to knock Brown's head off- please make it happen guys. Oh, and while your at it, Garrison could you please step into a slapshot and put it right in Dough-boys kisser so I don't have to listen to his "how much I hate the Canucks" interviews for a couple of months.
